EXACTLY! Limiting instead of depriving...Tonight, I am making my kids' "pizzadillas"-a healthier alternative to pizza. I am making vegan beans and seasoning some TVP for myself, and I'll probably make some brown rice for me to have instead of tortillas-as much as I would like one. They're white flour, and I've already proven to myself that white flour and I are mortal enemies.

Skye I think you are onto something there. I just remember 2 girls that lived across the street from us and they couldn't eat fast food and their diet was mostly towards the vegetarian side and no junk food in the house.

Now these girls are young adults in their 20's and eating at fast food places, eating lots of chips and candy and making rich foods that they didn't have growing up. I see the pounds creeping on and possibly some obsessions for both of them.

I think happy medium or balance is the key. We don't eat fast food anymore, but I do make healthy alternatives at home to compensate. We also buy very little chips or candy, but I am not opposed to the kids having it now and then. We are just trying to educate our kids to healthier alternatives and with a tight food budget those items are more luxury. Ha Ha!

Cheers,

I heard of strange addictions. My childhood bf turned to chips, junk foods, take out and soda after living on her own since her parents were strict or prohibitive about junk/fast foods..she found she enjoyed them and way overdid and still does.

GlitterFairy you are so right about what we give our kids to eat. I do think some of those addictions were about what they ate as a child. When I feed our kids if they don't like it I don't make them anything else. I just say this is what we are having. If they are hungry enough they will eat it, if not wait for the next meal.

I'm so glad that my Mom made me try a variety of foods when I was a child. She also made me learn to use chopsticks when I would rather use a fork and spoon and I'm very grateful for that.

Today, I can use chopsticks well and this has made my life so much easier! And I also have a healthier diet than a cousin of mine who refuses to even touch veggies! But I still won't touch fatty meat. That I can never outgrow!

So, I did watch a few episodes. I had to stop with the chick with the French Fries. Now, I think her mother messed up when she was a kid by catering to her whining and not making her try other stuff. If she didn't eat-so what? That's her choice! She'll get hungry enough to eat real food eventually. Same with the guy with the cheeseburgers. You foster children's pickiness, this is some of the stuff that can happen. I can understand, though. You really DO NOT want to let your child starve-buuuut, the thing is, they won't. Hunger is uncomfortable.

Some of these addictions are a sickness, a mental sickness, but not surprised that some production company would make a tv show out of this stuff.............money talks!! I keep waiting for the show with celebs sitting on their potties, and someone has to vote them off, entertainment on tv has reached down to the lowest common denominator, as long as someone watches.

Wow GlitterFairy toilet paper! Really? On the Freaky Eaters one was addicted to corn starch. Eating 2 boxes a day. I had no idea these type of addictions were out there!

The one with the soda addiction was drinking 30 cans a day. I thought my 3 a day back in the day was bad, but 30 I could never drink that many in a day without feeling sick sick sick. All that sugar and calories. YIKES!

Cheers,

I have not, but "Hungry for Change" and "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" are REALLY eye opening. It didn't turn me into a juicer, but it made me more militant about cutting out as many processed foods as possible!

I have watched "My strange addiction" and the one where the lady ate half a roll of two ply toilet paper a day was really sad!

Wow, I just watched the first season of Freaky Eaters streaming on Netflix. The one addicted to pizza, raw meat and the soda one was simply shocking. I was like wow, how can these individuals eat like this and not realize the consequences of their food addictions.

I had no idea people could be addicted to food to this level. Has anyone else watched this? It seemed like these were real situations!

I guess I should be glad that my once in awhile peanut butter cup addiction is nothing more than it is. Ha Ha!
