I haven't tried them. In the past, I have tried some of the frozen meals, but generally, making my own food is less expensive, plus like many have said, the salt content in them is too much. Have you considered making your own TV dinners and freezing them? When I worked, I would do that a lot.

I actually love the beef merlot. I do not like the price and will not be buying them unless I have coupons or they are on sale. Not much food either. But it was really good and I had a salad with it so that helped.

I've seen the same problem (excess sodium) with any prepared frozen meal - regardless of brand.

I often make my own large quantity items (say, Shepherd's Pie) and freeze it in portions. That way, I can better control the ingredients.

Sorry you spent your money and were disappointed.
I saw these just the other night on TV, and I said to my hubby that, while it might be OK to grab one once in a long while; it's so much better to make your own - because all the processing and chemicals that go into them make it just one more thing that you are putting in your body that doesn't need to be there.

I like them. There is a lot more meat than the typical TV dinner. They use califlower as a substitute for rice/pasta/potatoes, and believe or not, it works. If the Atkins Diet is your thing, the dinners are an easy way to get a quick and tasty meal. My local store sells out of them very quickly.

Once again folks, Billion dollar business, this weight loss/pretending to be healthy products stuff just keeps on booming. Try not to go for it, let this fad die faster than it did last time, please. Remember the Oat Bran fad of the 1980's? Atkin's company wants to cash in on the same stuff that they rebeled against in the 1990's, lol.

I understand the allure of having something to keep in the freezer or fridge at work but have given up on commercially frozen meals. In general, I found that bringing leftovers from home was a lot more satisfactory and that the more I cooked my own meals the better I felt.

But are they tastey? I don't use frozen meals much at all ... but I like having 1 or 2 in the freezer at work for "emergencies" -- when I couldn't pack my lunch as I usually do and can't go to the other building to buy food in the cafeteria.

I don't have a particular problem with sodium or fats -- thought I wouldn't want to eat high levels of either more than every once in a while. But I do need to watch my blood sugar and I was hoping these would be edible. So many other frozen meals are high in carbs as they include pasta and/or rice. So ... are the new Atkins ones reasonably tastey?

Low carb is a misnaming. It should be high fat. I aim for 60-75% fat. Fat is not a problem on Atkins.

Sodium is always a problem, and as far as TV dinners, why would the Atkins version be healthy? I think that Atkins products are garbage.

If you choose to eat the ANA. Eat whole foods, lots of vegetables, and plenty of healthy fats. The more you prepare the food, the better. SF, Diet, Low Fat etc. foods, as well as shakes, bars etc, are not real food.

There is a list of acceptable foods in DANDR. T.V. Dinners are not on the list. Atkins Co. is trying to make money selling garbage. Don't fall for it.

Well, it's pretty hard to have a meal that's low carb AND low fat. Assuming the meal is at least 8 ounces (224g), 29g of fat is a relatively small portion of it. There's probably 50-75g of water, but the other 150 grams have to come from somewhere. In a typical meal, more than half the weight would be carbs. If you take those away, you have to make up the rest with fat and protein. Atkins says that's okay.

And as far as I know, Atkins doesn't have much to say about sodium. Again, it has to taste like something, and if you take out all the added and natural sugars, you're left with fat and salt to give it flavor (unless you're good with spices and chiles and things, but it's really hard to sell very spicy foods to a mass market.) I doubt if you could sell a low-carb, low-sodium meal. (Well, you could sell it once; you just wouldn't get the same people to buy it a second time.) emoticon

I know a few people who have been on this and nearly all have been bad and had to stop.

I have not tried it myself

Made it, this time to my goal of 72K but reset it 70k to let me go up or down. I will be very happy to stay between the two.

Like others said, frozen dinners often are loaded with sodium - I suspect as a preservative, and a way of making it taste like something from mass production and freezing.

I, too, bulk cook and freeze in portions for my lunches.

Frozen dinner are always high in sodium and so is canned soup although progresso makes a low sodium line but its still a little high.

I'm on a low carb paleo type diet and I'm glad you mentioned this because I was going to pick up a few atkins meals just to have on hand in a pinch. I will definitely check the sodium first.

The ones I have tried I liked but I have to limit my sodium intake for high blood pressure and also watch my fats so I do not eat frozen meals on a regular basis. These products usually always have a higher sodium content.

I am trying the mass cooking and freezing thing this week. I made Deer Chili and a chicken, veggies, and rice bake. We had our dinners and then I made up some tubs for me to take to work. (I just get tired of salads or sandwiches...) At least I will have something warm to eat for a few days. It is very very cold here...

My opinion is, we're much better off cooking in mass quantities and then freezing individual portions. It's much easier to monitor fat, sodium, sugar, etc. by doing that, PLUS it's convenient.

Frozen dinners are typically high in sodium, so I guess I'm not too surprised. I usually grab a Lean Cuisine to keep on hand for 'those' days. (You know what I mean. Some days, homemade just ain't happening!) But even then, I'm careful about what I choose, I check the sodium, calories, fat, etc. Learned that from an SP article somewhere. Name/diet brand doesn't always equate healthy and wholesome!

I went on the Atkins diet in the 1970's and it worked to a point. Will never put myself through that again. Very dangerous diet.

I've never been a fan of the Atkins diet. It just doesn't make sense to me, but to each their own. Any frozen dinner will have a ton of sodium. It's frustrating. I've just given up on them and gotten stuff to make salads and some reduced sodium soup, on occasion a sandwich.

If you find a good frozen dinner nutritional wise, be sure to let us know!

I am not following the Atkin's diet, however I try to moderate my carb intake. I picked a couple of these new Atkin's TV Dinners up because I was thinking "Fast and convient lunches for work!".. Now that I am logging the nutrional values, I am SHOCKED! 29g of fat in ONE dinner! The sodium is 1030mg... OUTRAGEOUS! Luckily, I only grabbed 3.... I learned my lesson... just because it is a known name brand... does NOT mean it is healthy! What is your opinion on these "healthy" dinners?
