Never had one - SOOOOO terrified! Both mother and father had polyps, but all my systems are totally normal. Mother had IBS. Do they have a less invasive version now?

It's truly worth all the trouble. After the first time, the fear goes away. It's really nothing to be afraid of.

I never heard of an overnight hospital stay for a colonoscopy. Both my husband and I had one-he's had two. The procedure was O.K. but I had a difficult time right before with running to the bathroom at the last minute at the center. Hope you do O.K. It is not right up there on my Top 10 List of things I would want to do.

WAY TO GO!!! I have had colorectal cancer and it is NOT NOT NOT fun!!!

I had my first colonoscopy in 2001(?) and did my prep at home and was asleep for the procedure. The Dr removed a polyp and wanted me to return in 3 years. My insurance however said no. My dr fought it for years.
I finally changed insurance companies - which entitled me to a colonoscopy and it was too late I was in the early stages of Stage 3 cancer. This was @9 years after my first colonoscopy - insurance just wouldn't approve it.. It would have cost me @ $2500 of my own money without insurance and I just didn't have it. In hind sight - I should have.

I am cancer free now and my new birthday is July 22 - it will be 3 years this year!!

I did all my colonoscopy prep at home--and it was easy-peasy. I never had to "run" for the bathroom...I just got up & went whenever I needed to. No big deal. I have IBS, so I spend a lot of time going to the bathroom on a normal day. The prep was a piece of cake.

I was given the Versed for my procedure--so I was out of it & didn't remember. The only hard part was getting the IV in my hand--they had a hard time finding a vein! Otherwise the procedure is no problem....

Of all the hospital tests & procedures I've had done in my life, the colonoscopy was the easiest!

It Is What It Is.... :)

Been there, done that.

I too found the "prep" worse than the exam. I know some people prefer to be asleep when they have the procedure, I was wide awake. I'll admit it. I found my colon fascinating ! LOL !!! The only thing I really found uncomfortable was the blood pressure cuff. Other than that, I didn't mind the colonoscopy at all. Do expect to be chained to the bathroom for a while. Just when you think you're done... never mind. You'd be surprized how much waste your colon can hold.

Now, what bothers me is the mammogram ! You want to talk about awkward and uncomfortable, let's talk mammogram.

The prep is MUCH more of a hassle than the actual procedure.....just stay close to the bathroom and have on an outfit that comes off easily and quickly (trust me on that one). emoticon

You're lucky they're willing to keep you overnight beforehand.....might make it a little easier for you.

Well, I am off to the hospital this afternoon for my first colonoscopy. And I'm looking forward to it...NOT! emoticon I'm being kept overnight for the "bowel prep", and the actual procedure is early tomorrow morning. Should be fun, as I've always wanted to spend the evening on the toilet. emoticon

I'm not allowed to eat any solid foods today, just liquids... so I'll be hungry by tonight. emoticon I'll have to be careful not to overeat tomorrow after the procedure when I return home.

Also, no exercise today. Bummer all around.
