If it's sticky/gummy, it's probably not from dirt. That's usually a sign that something has ruined the varnish (moisture or heat, most likely) and it needs a quick refinishing. Hubby has the right idea.

I would make a paste of baking soda and water and use a soft scrub (like for non-stick cookware) and work at it.

i had tried the pledge but nothing.... i did try the eraser lightly and it helped but my husband has to refinish it, but ty for all your suggestions!

I have a gorgeous glider we've had it over 10 yrs and it was put in a spare room cause the arms seemed to have gotten like gummie for some reason don't ask me how... what would clean the wood good? any suggestions helpful thanks!
