Until health issues and depression over the last few years, I was always naturally thin. Even when I was thin I typically had 2-3 different sizes of jeans/pants/skirts in my closet. It isn't unusual for me to fluctuate 7-10 pounds from my ideal weight in either direction. When I was a teenager, that meant my clothes were usually a 1/2 or 3/4. In my 20s and 30s, my closet was filled with 4, 6, and 8. Once I get down to my goal weight, I expect my jeans to range from a 6, 8, and 10, because I would probably look sick at a 4 now (though it's hard to tell with the way the numbers have changed due to vanity sizing, so we'll see).

My tops generally don't change much unless I have a drastic weight gain (I didn't go up to a medium until I gained 30 pounds and it was another 20-30 pounds later that I reached a large), though I will probably have some smalls and mediums just because of different cuts.

All the clothes above my happy range will be gotten rid of.

Be not afraid of going slowly; be afraid only of standing still.

No, As my clothes become too big, I give them away. I'm trying really hard to wear clothing that actually "fits" me. Even before weight loss, I wore clothing that made me appear larger.
I felt huge, so I wore clothing that was larger than I really needed.

I CAN do this ONE day at a time.

This time, yes ... though as a general rule I had not for about a decade. Even if it crowds my small space so I could hardly move in certain parts of it.

I am diabetic now, far below my "happy weight", still have less than a year post-diagnosis under my belt. Genetic factors contributed to wasting syndrome; then my current eating plan took over.

I am low-carbing but also practicing sports nutrition. It is a restrictive diet. In case of any major shift in treatment or a rebound effect of this diet--or any other complication affecting my health, mobility, job status, etc., I need those clothes.

I used to take a size 26, now a size 11. I definitely gave away all old clothes, now I have a new wardrobe and I can't gain weight because I don't want to replace the clothes, it helps motivate me to know that I don't have the large clothes anymore.

I'd only hang on to a few, for "that time of the month."

I bloat and cramp a TON during my period, and most of my regular clothes don't fit at all. I definitely need room during my time of the month.

the good thing is that I wore out most of the clothes that are my fat clothes so it was easy for me to just to get rid of them and the ones that were still good I donated.

My "fat" was never that "fat", but I do wish I'd kept some of my larger clothes. I was in a car accident which made it really hard for me to exercise for several months. I gained weight during that time and found it difficult to dress myself nicely.

Female, 5'4". Weighing in on the first weekend of the month.

I've lost the weight- and kept it off- using Spark in the past. Lost my nutrition and fitness groove after a car accident and re-gained... but not for long!

I try to donate my clothes when they become too big. Hanging on to "fat clothes" assumes that I will gain the weight back, but it is my goal not to gain it back. I have lost and kept off 50 pounds over the past few years, and I am determined to keep it that way. However, I am still trying to lose the last remaining pounds, and like SUSAWH, I sew and try and alter the clothes that I like until they aren't worth the effort aymore. For a long time, I had the bad habit of buying smaller sized clothes before they fit, thinking that it would motivate me, but that ended up making me feel downhearted if I couldn't wear them fast enough. Luckily, I fit into a lot of those clothes that I bought back then, but there are still some pieces waiting in my closet. These clothes have become symbols of my goals now, but I have vowed to only buy clothing that fits me and that look great on me at this moment. Because I deserve to enjoy new clothes and look beautiful now, not just when I reach my final goal.

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony." ~Mohandas Gandhi

Yes and no. I sew, so I have already taken up the side seams on top and pants and cut off the excess. some pants I have taken up twice! But some clothes are not worth the effort
(either not good enough or too much trouble), so those I give away to friends or donate.
Besides I have been on a shopping spree for 3 weeks, new scrubs, workout clothing and real clothes in a 14 or medium. Yeah!

Thank you Sparkpeople for being there!

When I lost a lot of weight, I still had some fat clothes in my closet. My friend talked me into getting rid of them. After that, I started gaining weight back. Not saying the two were necessarily related but I thought that was weird after I looked back and thought about it.

I have bought my biggest clothes in second hand shops.
When I realized I needed a belt to keep them up I have delivered the most of them again.
And I have repaired the old ones where the zipper had gone.

Yes, I plan to keep my "fat clothes" not all of them. Just my favorite shirt and jeans. Everything else I will donate because the used/thrift stores around here don't have many things for plus size women. I know I could never find clothing in them.
I want to keep one outfit though so that I can always remember and have a visual of where I came from and where I NEVER want to be again.

I am currently a size 12, sometimes a 10, so I kept size 16 and smaller, but anything larger was donated.

No, I donated them all when I lost the initial 12kg with spark 4 years ago. I have put on a few pounds since then but will never go back to mu old eating habits

yes, all of them. i'm still wearing them because they still fit. i guess until i start to notice a drastic change in my weight then I will start letting them go one by one. but knowing me, i'll probably go and have them taken in and keep wearing them. money is tight at this moment. lol
