I like this thread. I think stress is a big deal and I often overlook it. 10 things: hot bath, BREATHE in and out--and be mindful of breathing, massage, running, spending time outdoors, writing, focus on the big picture (try not to sweat the small stuff), keeping a good routine at work and at home, laughing with my family, reading.

My top ten are pretty similar to yours: Laughter, playing with the dog, petting the cats, hot tea, hot showers, good books, video games, music. But I also use: Exercise, specifically interval training. Interval training really pushes and focuses the body. Venting. I like to find a safe person and go OFF. Not on them, but to them. Two of my friends are guaranteed good for this, but blogging or handwriting the rant out works just as well. Sometimes, you just have to verbalize the emotions and problems in order to deal with them and find a solution.

I use prayer (talking with & listening to my Creator - the Lord God Almighty) for major de-stressing! Knowing that He has all the answers & that He wants the best for me gives me hope beyond words. God bless!
Almighty God, You are the one who inspired man to seek & build a free land. It was Your Holy Word that gave direction & guidance in forming our government. Forgive us for allowing that same government to remove & separate You from our nation’s daily affairs. Please give us another chance. We hunger for You to once again bless America. I ask & I thank You in Jesus’ most holy name, Amen.

Like so many people here, petting my cat is my number one de-stressor. Others include reading, playing solitaire on my phone, getting outside for a few minutes (even if it's only on my balcony or the steps at work). Of course, when I'm at work, sometimes I just have to lock myself in the bathroom and bang my head against the wall for a minute or two...

LEE I am with you about the running water. That is so relaxing. I have an above ground pool in my backyard, and even though the water is not running, in the summer, it feel great to just sit by it on an evening and relax. Love to swim as well.

I had a couple guys come in and do some woodwork in my kitchen today. This forced me to stay home and stay put for a change so that I could direct them as needed. Through all of this day I realized how much running around I do and how that wears me down (stress!). I'm going to cut myself some slack for doing nothing and enjoying my day on the couch with my laptop and a couple good books!

Looking at the stress differently. This morning I went into my backyard and saw that somebody had thrown a whiskey bottle by our shed and there was broken glass on the pathway. We have a basketball court behind us and on the other side of the court are some apartments. My first response was to get angry and I threw one piece back. I then regretted it because someone might get cut. I walked over to the courts and picked up the piece I had thrown. I also remembered my mantra: If this is the worse thing that happens to me today, I am a lucky woman. Nothing is worth losing my piece of mind.
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts. Drop judgment and pick up love. If you can move a grain of sand a day, eventually you will move a mountain. Crappy choices bring crappy feelings. Can'ts are joy limiters.

I love taking a bath, and I love the de stressing time at the end of my workout, when I do stretching and breathing. I also try to start the day with some meditation.

In no particular order: 1) The ocean -- swimming in it, sitting by it, WHATEVER. Being near the ocean immediately grounds me. 2) Yoga 3) Snuggling with my cats 4) Hugging my husband 5) Leisurely cooking something (or several somethings) 6) Going for a drive with no particular destination 7) Shopping, even window-shopping 8) Taking a long bath with a good book 9) Going to a petting zoo -- I don't think I'll ever outgrow that! 10) Hollering (just a "wooooo!") out of a moving car window. There's a huge release for me in that for whatever reason =)

At the end of the day, I like to "go dark" for 30 minutes before I go to sleep. That means no TV, music, phone calls, or texting. I find that I ease into sleep better and feel much less stressed when I have a firm cut off point where I am disconnected from everything.
