I'm honestly not sure. I tend to not notice I need a new size until I go up or down two sizes. At 177 pounds, I'm currently wearing a tight 14. I could wear a 16 more comfortably on my legs, but my waist is too small (each of my thighs is as big around as my waist) because I carry almost all of my weight from the hips down. Back in 2010, I dropped from 170 to 151 without noticing until I realized my 14s we're way too big and I was fitting comfortably into a 10 (which was actually a 12 just a few years earlier--darn vanity sizing ugh).

Vanity sizing makes things especially difficult for me, so I often don't even pay attention to the size on the labels of my pants. There is no way I can get into the 14s I have from a few years ago, but the new ones fit fine. I wish women's clothes were sized the same way as men's, using actual measurements.

I think it varies a great deal. But for me it has been fewer pounds equal one size as I approach my goal weight. About 15 pounds at first and now about 8. Also, I'm not losing weight in the same location consistently, or the location I would choose. The first thing I had to replace were my bras, then shirts, then shirts again, then pants.

I started in a tight 20 or 2x at 250 pounds, I now weigh 155 pounds and am in a 10 or a size small. So that's 5 sizes, 19.2 pounds per size if I did the math right. Math is not my best subject. emoticon

Interesting question, I liked reading the responses! It varies so much for me depending on how big I am. I've lost 15 pounds and am still wearing the same size! But then when I'm losing in the "healthy" bmi range, it seems like 5-10 pounds equals a size.

I went from a size 22 to a size 12/14 depending on the brand in 60 pounds. I really want to lose another 15 pounds so I am hoping I can get to a size 10 by then.

In the "plus sizes" it seemed to take about 20 pounds to make a difference... but now that I'm in the "regular" sizes, it seems more like about 10...

Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

I am not sure how many pounds lost equal a size lost. I lost 48 pounds and I still wear the same size. They are a little lose, but not really noticeably so. I feel as though I have not lost any weight at all!

80 pound loss took me from 2X to size 4. From 2X to 1X was probably 30 pounds, whereas size 8 to 6 and 6 to 4 were less than 10 pounds

My rule of thumb is 10 pounds equal 1 size. However that is for me. I carry my weight equally all over my body, maybe a little more in the thighs. My mom however is a pure apple. SHe has these skinny chicken legs and all her fat is around her waist. For her, ten pounds would probably be more than one size. I think it depends on your particular body.

I think it is very subjective how many pounds equals a size. Everybody is built differently and gains and loses weight in different places and different amounts. In general I would say it would probably take 10 - 20 lbs. to equal one size difference for most people. But, although I can now fit into a 22 in pants from a 24 I have lost 35 lbs. But in bra size I went from a 50dd to a 46d in the same time. Evidently I lose in my chest much faster than in my waist.

It depends what sizes you're talking about. In many clothing lines, For "misse's" 10 and below there's generally a 1 inch difference between sizes. 12-16 (or sometimes 18), it's 1.5 inches. Above that, it's 2 inches between sizes. (So if you've gone down from a 22 to a 20, it's really as much of a difference as going from an 8 to a 4.) "Women's" or plus sizes are a different scale as well. (Oh, the knowledge you pick up by having been all over the scale!)

So when I went from 22 to 20, I had to lose about 20-25 pounds. (Felt like it took forever!) Now it's less than 10 between sizes -- usually more like 8 -- and a gain of five pounds (which happens to me regularly every month) can make a difference in my fitted clothes.

Starting Weight: 260 lbs. (November 2010)
Quasi-Maintenance: 165 lbs. (June 2011)
Goal Weight: 150 lbs. (reached December 8, 2011)

Size 22W to Size 4

Currently maintaining within 5 lbs. (+ or -) of goal. I weigh daily, but also use a tape measure and the fit of my clothes to guage how well I'm doing.

I've lost 40 pounds and gone down 2-3 sizes. I'll go ahead and say 3 sizes. I went from a tight 16/ some 18s to a comfortable size 12. There is a bigger difference in bigger sizes than there are in smaller sizes. I hope to lose 25 pounds and go down 2 more sizes.

For me, it's been about 20 pounds. I started as an 18-20 (short). Now that I have lost 40 pounds, I wear a 14-16 (petite), depending on the brand and style. My goal is to wear a 12 petite.

When I went from size 24-20 it seemed about 25lb, then going from 20-10, it was on average 17lbs. I've gone back up about 40lbs, and two sizes. I am a 14 at 195-200lbs.

I think the amount of weight would be different for different people. I've lost 25-30 lbs and dropped about 3 sizes - so maybe 10 pounds per size?

I don't know.
I've lost about 7 lbs and my measurements haven't changed enough to be in a different size clothing. I believe 15-20 lbs might be significant enough to move to another size for me.

For me, it's around 10 pounds, but not always. Like with pants, they will be super loose around the waist but still snug in the hips. So I might not drop a size, but they sure fit differently.

It depends on how flabby you are. 7-12 lbs generally. But was down at least 1 size without any weight loss. I just firmed up by more activity after retirement.

I agree with the 10 lbs. I have lost 20 lbs and have lost 2 dress sizes. More like pant size. From 205 and tight 18 to 185 and a loose 14.

Losing 10 didn't take me to a new size, but made the size I am in fit much better. So I'd say 10 to 12 pounds. Can't wait for that to happen again.

@ Jennifer, I think That size differnce is coming, sometimes i weight loss the first few pounds in lost in the face and some water weight, then by the 15th pound, it coes off the abs, thighs and rear. After I had my son it seemed like it took about 16 lbs before I noticed a size difference in my jeans, then after that it only took another 8 lbs to see another size down. Good luck, you are doing great!

I lost 40lbs but am only down 2-3 sizes. I started at a 14 or 16 (ie I was wearing 14s but probably should have been wearing 16s), and I wear a pretty solid 10 now. I can wear mediums in some tops now, whereas before it was L or XL. A lot of my weight lost came from my upper arms, my face, my lower legs and around my middle area, so that would make sense. I still have wider hips, thicker thighs, plenty of junk in the trunk and my chest is still pretty much the same size.

Working on maintaining at 140!

I've lost about 55lbs and gone from a tight 16 to a comfortable 12.

This depends on the style, cut and brand of clothing. Sizes aren't regulated, so I have different brands of jeans in the same size that all fit different.

This also depends on where you are carrying the weight. All my pants look too big because my thighs are toned & pants look baggy, but my hips just fit comfortably in the 12s. Also my shirts are big around the shoulders and just right around the hips.

Depends, when I was bigger it was 20-30 but now that I'm small, if I even lose 5 pounds I can go down a size...But that's to a 00 so I'd like to stay where I am!

It must depend on how big you are to begin with. My starting weight was 328, yikes! I have lost 50, and I am still wearing the same "size." However, I'm at the lower register of the size rather than the higher, and several things fit well, while I couldn't even breathe in them before. I figure another 20, and I'll drop a true size.

5 lbs.

Give up everything you love, and everything that tastes good = weight loss! Simple as that!

25 pounds... still the same size, even in jeans.

It depends upon how heavy I am to begin with. When I weigh more, it takes 20-30 pounds to drop a size. When I'm slim, it takes 10-15 pounds to drop a size.

That entirely depends.

For one thing, sizing is so poorly regulated, one style might be one size and a different style even in the same brand the size can be totally different. So basing things on size is an exercise in futility.

That said, it depends on how toned I am. I can not lose any weight and lose a size if I have been lifting weights and toning my core, I can gain a size of my core is flabby.

totally depends; for me it's much more a matter of toning/inches lost vs. weight on the scale

I have heard many women say for them 8 pounds lost is 1 size down, and then I have heard others say it's as much as 16 lbs. My special K box had advertised "lose 6 lbs and lose a jean size" and they mention doing that in 2 weeks.

I was wondering what your expirience has been. For me it seems about 12 lbs lost is one size down.

Thanks,
Lisa
