I am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with leukemia in 2006 right after the birth of my 6 year old son, Noah. I was only 26. Now my mom has breast cancer, and she's having a really rough time with it. Last week, a couple of friends on facebook asked me if I would like to walk with them at an event that took place last Saturday. I have wanted to go on a cancer walk for a long time, but never thought that I could. My own cancer left me weak and on disability. I was scared, but I really wanted to walk for my mom, so I went. I started out breathing a little heavy, but I never gave up. I never even sat down! I trudged through...as if on a mission. And after crossing the finish line, I learned that I had just finished not a 3K, like I had originally thought, but a 5K! I am so thankful that I went! It was one one the most rewarding things I've ever done for myself and for my mom. I plan to keep doing them every year from now on because now... I know I can!!!

~Too blessed to be stressed~

Excellent question and awesome answers!!!

My moment was this morning when I could see a difference in my stomach (it's only been 12 pounds gone) AND I tried on pants in the next size down and they fit (a little snug...but I didn't have to suck in my breath to zip/button!!).

I took a flight exam in April and passed it beautifully, with compliments from the examiner. I was very proud, almost euphoric after that.

Mine is going to sound silly but I am proud so that is what matters to me.

I have a very hard time on the elliptical machine my goal with this beast is to increase by 1 minute a week to get my body used to it.

I did 5 minutes last night and it felt great!!

so happy i will conquer this machine!!

One day at a time...

I am thankful everyday for the support system that I have.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Two Saturday's ago I completed my first 10k race. I have never been a runner and I am not a fast runner either but that is changing. I trained for 9 weeks and finished it in 1:00:26 which was faster than my usual 10 minute per mile pace. I was so proud of myself for doing this and that my family was there to cheer me on! Aiming for a half marathon next year! Great question!

I really like this question and am trying to remember. Hmmmm. I met my goal weight and was happy, but did not take the time to be proud. I have felt proud when complimented, but I realize my self pride needs a little work!

"The greater the challenge, the greater the struggle, the greater the intrinsic reward." Captain Ary Hobbel, UAL (ret.)

I feel pleased with myself any time that I accomplish any victory, large or small. Recently, in the area of fitness, it was last week when I didn't have ice cream (my favorite treat!).
Last Saturday I completed a 6 mile walk after having been ill with a lung infection for five months. (Nothing compared to the five mile runs I was doing in early May, but walking comes before running after a long illness.) It turns out that the 6 miles was too far and it set me back, but at least I did it.

The biggest fitness challenge was completing a 1/2 marathon at ages 25, 35, and 50.

But nothing compares to having completed my bachelor's degree and teaching certificate in 1984 after working at it for seven years as a single mother. Right next to that was earning my FAA private and instrument pilots licenses (1986 and 1997 respectively).

What is your challenge today?

Yesterday when I went to my meeting with my diabetic councelor. I went prepared with SP printouts of exercise, blood glucose levels and meals for the last week and sang the praises of SPand she was very happy with what she saw.. My goal for the last month was to lose 5 lbs. When I stepped on the scale I only lost 4.7 lbs BUT I lost 5.5 inches. This last week I have really started to feel that I am succeeding in becoming healthier because I am feeling a difference in my clothes.

Another day another step closer to a healthy life.

It's been a LONG while. I had gained back 65 pounds of the 120 I lost, so I think my proudest moment came when I realized enough was enough and I stopped lying to myself and got back to the gym.

When I weighed-in at 121.6 in February! Gained since then, and I've not felt proud of myself in a long time.

Give up everything you love, and everything that tastes good = weight loss! Simple as that!

"Eating what stands on one leg (mushrooms and plant foods) is better than eating what stands on two legs (fowl), which is better than eating what stands on four legs (cows, pigs, and other mammals)"....... Chinese proverb

I think one reason I am addicted to races is the awesome feeling I have when I do cross the finish line. I'm glad you didn't give up on your 10K. I feel proud of myself for all I have accomplished with the help of Sparkpeople. I not only got back down to a healthy weight, but I went further and hit my dream weight. Now I'm just working on improving my fitness level and possibly finding a program to get a degree or certificate in so I can help other people as a fitness professional.

Is it wrong to fight time, to turn it back or push it forward? Time was never mine.

Wow, I've been looking for a new board and this one really hit home. I have many accomplishments in my life . . . kids, grandkids, completed a bachelors and a masters after I turned 35, awesome job, great friends, etc. However, I have very little support in my life and I realized after reflecting on this question that I work hard not to feel proud, because I don't have anyone in my life that is proud of me. I noticed that I hide or bury my pride because my accomplishments seem to trigger my husband to jealousy and/or irritation. I have stumbled on this observation many times during this marriage, but now that we are empty nesters it's becoming something I really need to deal with. Thanks for posing the question and getting me thinking about this in a healthy fashion.

When I signed up for my first half marathon this past Sunday (the race is in March), knowing that I'll be able to run the entire 13.1 miles.

My First 10k :) I was all but ready to give up on the last 2 miles...my ipod went dead....I was exhausted then all of a sudden an older gentleman (much older) passed me....on the back of his shirt read "you can do this!" I got a sudden burst of energy and took off! There was nothing like the feeling of crossing that finish line!

Wherever you go......there you are.
