Everything. Well, almost. Living life at goal, 80+ pounds below my all time high, has more rewards than I imagined. My blood pressure is normal, my cholestrol is now good, I have energy and have discovered an athletic side of me I didn't know existed. The biggest change is how I feel about myself. I am just so much more comfortable in every situation.

I love hearing the theme of "taking care of me". My attitude is, if I don't see that I am at my best, I can't give my best to anyone else. Spark People has helped me to learn that lesson. I have to keep drilling it into my head, but it is beginning to stick!

Four weeks in, what *hasn't* changed is the scale. That number won't budge. What *has* changed? 1. My waistline and hips. 2. The number of fruits I eat in a day. 3. The number of times I wake up at night (from around 10 times a night to 0). 4. My outlook towards exercise. (I now exercise just for fun or when I'm bored!) 5. My motivation with regards to everything in my life, which means not only am I eating better and exercising, I'm putting forth more effort in school and in my relationships.

Faith has changed me. I did not believe anything I was reading about weightloss and fitness but I tried tracking food and exercise and I am seeing results. So I am really going to start reading and having faith in the experts, realizing that this has really been studied and these experts know the way.

I am excited to see so many really GREAT attitudes. Attitude can make all of the difference. Love you, and take it one day at a time.

I think you have the right attitude Jenny : ) For most of my addult life I was a food addict/emotional eater (I got to close to 200 lbs at 5' 3"). I looked to food for my comfort and pleasure. And I think a lot of people do. I used to be a member of weight watchers many years ago, and I remember a bunch of us sitting in a room and all the people were swapping recipes on how to make "low calorie" ice cream sandwiches out of cool whip and such. It was clear they were still focused on how to legally get their junk food and comfort food somehow. I didn't really make any progress until I examined the emotions I was trying to stuff down by overeating. But once I did that I was able to attain success. So like you, I now look at food for its nutritional value and what it can do for my body, and I can see junk food for what it really is. Plus I'm more relaxed about food too, I'm not always obsessively planning my next meal in my head. LOL : )
If you change your mind, you can change your body, and ultimately change your life~

The biggest change for me so far- * I look at food and think what can it do for me? Also, once I have eaten it what it is doing TO my body. * I look forward to burning calories. Excercise is no longer a burden that I HAVE to do. I want to do it for the feeling it gives me when i'm done. * My quality time with my daughter. She goes on walks with me, I am trying to chase her around the playground more, she helps me pick out recipes that are healthy. * I sleep better! * I dont really miss the junk food we used to eat. The new variety of veggies, and fruits my family and I are eating is just as yummy as the junky stuff. * My portion size has been cut in half! I dont even miss it, I just fill the empty space on the plate with lots of veggies that i love.

1/ Went from XL to L, and sometimes M, sized clothing (depending on manufacturer) 2/ Tons more energy 3/ Sitting all day is not nearly as appealing as it once was, I need to get up and move around. The restlessness is hard to take! 4/ Smaller portions fill me up 5/ I know what actually being hungry feels like - and I don't mind 6/ My blood sugar is stable and at a good number 7/ I'm demonstratably stronger - I pick up my neice with ease, I haul bushels of cukes and other veggies without breaking a sweat, I can help friends move without only moving the light stuff (like pillows), etc. 8/ I can climb stairs again 9/ I'm regaining some (not all, but some) of my former flexibility 10/ I'm cooking on a regular basis, for me, not just for company, and I really enjoy it

I have changed the way I look at food by tracking every morsel - I no longer see 'good' or 'bad' food, I see food with different calories and nutritional values. If I want something I just incorporate it into my calories, but as I might now look at having either a chocolate bar at 450 calories or an evening meal at 450 calories, the meal wins everytime! (I never, ever thought I would say that!) I have become much more aware of what I am putting in my mouth when it comes to the calorific value!

WHATAGIRL Good job on keeping yourself going when you don't lose. That is a tough thing to do, and I am glad you are doing it. As usual, I have a few words of advice, ok, I am getting on the soapbox, I might as well admit. Please don't be offended, sometimes I am over enthusiastic, and it can be a pain. I just really care about all of the people here who are fighting the good fight. Don't tell yourself that you can't have any certain food. Make a decision of whether you will have it today, or maybe tomorrow. Decide that you will eat a reasonable amount, and then do the best you can. Try to fit it into your tracker for the day, or maybe wait until tomorrow. It is trial and error, but if you "trial" it, and then "error", just learn a lesson from it. You will learn new coping mechanisms, and get rid of the old ""track" that you have been on and turn yourself onto a better one by exploring. Be kind to yourself and love you. Don't live from a place of fear. I think a big part of the problem is not giving yourself a choice. When we feel powerless, it leads to overeating. It is also very hard on your self esteem. Think about it, and give yourself some good messages about who you are, and get rid of the bad ones you have listened to all of your life. We each have our own. That is what diets have done to us. They have taught us all of these silly rules, and then if we don't follow them, we are "bad". How crazy is that? I will never go on a diet again in my life. I will never follow anyone else's rules. In fact, I will not make rules about food. I will not allow how much I weigh, and how much I eat to define who I am. This is a new journey, not a diet. I have been at this for 4 1/2 years. If it were a diet, I would have lost and gained this weight back several times by now. I had serious back issues, and was physically unable to do anything, and was in terrible pain, for over 8 months. I did gain some of my weight back. I had lost 70 pounds and gained quite a bit of it back. BUT, if I had been doing 'diets", instead of lifestyle changes, I would have gained it all back and more, would have been so despondent that I might not have been well enough to have the surgery that has made me so much better. So, now, I have about 14 to 15 pounds to lose to get back to my lowest weight. That means I have lost about 55 pounds. I am able to exercise without pain, and am working to strengthen my body so that I can lose the rest of that weight, and then get on to some "new stuff" to get rid of. Good luck to you on your own journey. Every day is a new day, and One Day at a Time, we CAN do this. Enjoy the journey. Wishing you better days, and forgiving yourself for your mistakes, and loving yourself in spite of it all!

tekgirl Hope you are able to get some exercise to burn off some of that stress. We all know how bad stress is on our bodies, but figuring out how to handle it is really difficult. My body does it by making me sick. Well, it certainly slowed me down, and made me take care of me for a few days. Hoping to learn some better coping mechanisms soon! But, I am better today, and I hope you are too God Bless, and prayers for your healing.

Weight loss and gain is a spirals-pattern for me: If I gain weight or fail to lose any, I lose motivation and spiral downward.... more weight gain, more depression. If I lose weight, and do so consistently, I get compliments, feel motivated, and find it easier to stay on track; an upward spiral then results in more success for me. The biggest change for me this time, is not allowing my perceived lack of progress (ie- number on the scale) spiral me downward. I have been in a losing pattern, but I have a history of gaining my weight back, once I get "complacent" with my skinny weight. So now, when I have a few weeks of NO loss, I just remind myself of how far I've come, and how no amt of cookies, cake, wine, or bread is worth the feeling I know I'll have if I throw in the towel, EVEN if for a few days, and begin gaining again. Also, instead of telling myself, "I can't have that", I tell myself, "I don't WANT that!"

ENGLETEACH Thank you so much for the virtual hugs, I can feel them now. It has been a very tough week, and I now have a pretty bad sinus infection. My immune system just lost control with all of the stress I am having. My body will make me sit down and be quiet when I have had too much. I have to say, that I am not eating really well, but I am not eating huge quantities of food either. Not necessarily eating enough healthy food, and am eating some comfort food, but not a lot of food. Food has always been my "healer", but since being on this journey, as someone else said, I don't feel as if I have to stuff all of my feelings constantly. You can see from my weight, that I have had a really big issue with food, for most of my life. Although I was feeling really good a week ago today, you are right, this pain will pass, and I will feel really good again. I am happy to read the other posts that show how much the rest of you are getting out of your personal journeys. This is always encouraging for me, We can do this together.

There is nothing that I can't accomplish when I put my heart and mind to it, now that I have gotten back on track I will continue one day at a time to loose, to get healthy and stay healthy. This my goal for the rest of 2013.
