It works. Anything soft will work just dip and dab, do not rub.

Yes, it is also good for bug bites. Takes away the itch. In fact, white vinegar is good for so many things!! I use it in rinse water to get soap out, I spray it in the shower to keep mold away, etc.

Not vinegar (an acid that will lift the skin cuticle), use cold tea bags....feels cool and the tannin helps strengthen the skin. My experience on tea is 5* if you wet the bags and put in the freezer for a little while:

Even wiki notes under medical uses that it has anti-inflammatory qualities:

mom used it on me once.... Balch recommends it as a wash, and chamomile tea for a soak to reduce stinging...

I've used apple cider vinegar applied with a cotton ball. It takes the sting out.

I've never tried it, but I've heard many people swear that vinegar will help. Either a vinegar/water mix & use cotton balls or a cloth to apply or put the mixture in a spray bottle.

Taking ibuprofen was a good move; it helps keep down the swelling as well as relieving pain. The other important thing is to drink extra fluids-- sunburn itself dehydrates you, plus you probably got dehydrated while you were getting sunburned. The best thing to put on it is smooth cloth soaked in cool water. Cold chamomile tea is good, too.

Vinegar won't hurt and it's an old traditional remedy, but it smells. I'd go with the chamomile first if you have some. My grandmother also used to make us take a cool bath with baking soda dissolved in the water. She was a nurse who cared for burn patients, so there might be something to it-- but then again, she was practicing in the 1930s, so it just might have been the best they could do in those days.

I know that my dad insisted that we use the vinegar when we were kids. He simply dabbed vinegar all over the burns w/ a cotton ball. -- Did it help??? I don't think so!

The previous poster mentioning aloe vera is closer to being a useful resource for sunburn. It can be cooling and soothing and beneficial to the skin in a natural way.

Sorry, I don't know about vinegar. Aloe gel is great, though. If you can't find the plain gel, Solarcaine contains it.
