I love early mornings workouts. When I first joined the gym the first year I was going between 3 - 4:30 in the morning. I just absolutely love it. It works for me do to my work schedule. However, if your continuing having insomnia problems you should consult with your physician. The lack of slack is not beneficial to you in the long run.

Progress may be slow, but it happens!

the earlier in the day you workout, the less time you have to come up with excuses to skip your workout.

and if you still have a free 30 minutes or so when you leave work, you can throw in an occasional two-a-day!

As long as you are getting enough sleep, overall, and it doesn't interfere with family/their sleep, why not? I used to get up early during college, but that is now my normal wake up time for work, haha! I find that if I work out after dinner, maybe 8 pm, that I sleep great and am rested when 6:30 rolls around. I did that for a few years in college, before the morning workouts, and was more consistent with them

Yea if you aren't going back to bed then working out early am im sure is fine. But if you were to try and return to bed after that may not work for most!

I don't think working out instead of tossing & turning will have a negative effect. You might try some other measures for sleep hygiene, though. Things like making sure you go to bed at the same time each evening, investigate your environment for things that are waking you up, cutting out caffeine or alcohol if you use them. The recent heat in my area messed up my sleep big time, so I'm working on getting back on track. Maybe if you work out, your sleep cycle will right itself!

I don't think you'd be training your body to do that. When it's really hot out I get up at 4:30am on my run days to avoid the heat and it does not make me wake up at that time on other days. Hopefully the consistent exercise will help you no longer have insomnia!

often when I wake up early I do a workout at home. Sometimes I can catch another 30 minutes or so of sleep afterward.

I'm a morning person. I've been doing early morning workouts for years when I have bouts of insomnia. I don't think exercising that early gets my body in the habit of waking earlier, but it does get me in the habit of working out in the morning no matter when I wake up.

I suspect it would get you into a routine, but, as long as you can handle it, and are getting enough sleep on the other end; it's likely better than tossing and turning

I'm tired of my insomnia waking me up at 4:30 AM. If when I wake up I workout/go to the gym early, will I just be training my body to continue waking up early?

Lying in bed awake just gets old, so I feel like I may as well do something else!
