I'd say "Pot Luck" and tell what you'll be providing. Assuming your guests are mostly adults, they'll understand that pot luck means they should bring something.

As for the chairs, how many do you need? If you have some already, you don't want to make *everyone* bring their own. Can you just ask the two or three people closest to you to bring all the lightweight chairs they have? Or, if you belong to a church or lodge, see if you can borrow some.

I think I would say, "Please bring a chair, and a dish to share!" hahaha

How about BYOD (bring your own dish) and BYOC (bring your own chair)? Like BYOB (bring your own beverage).
Sounds like fun to me!

Yeah... I prefer regular mail.
But in this instance, with the whole potluck thing, I went the electronic route.
Everyone really liked that they could see what others were bringing, so it worked out for us.

IF you are inviting via email...
check out Punchbowl.com

It has a potluck option where you can specify what you'd like to have people bring. Then as people sign up for something, everyone see it and there are no duplicates.

DH and I just did this.
We supplied the drinks and the grilled meats. Guests brought appetizers, salads, side dishes and desserts.

There is also a place for notes (like your need for chairs), but I did not use it.

Went to a BBQ last week where the invitation said "Last names A-M bring desserts, N-Z bring chips". You could do something like that? As for the chairs, you could add a note to bring some folding chairs, or ask a friend or neighbor if they have extras you can borrow maybe?

We want to have a cookout, but we would love some help doing it , you know everyone bring some kind of dish and a chair I mean I have some seating but not for everyone. How should the invite read?
Something like:
Pot luck BBQ bring a dish and bring a chair? I'm not sure how to word it...
Thanks in advance!emoticonemoticonemoticon
