Just finished The Son by Philipp Meyer, and epic story of a family in Texas, spanning the years 1836-2012. It was very good and real "page turner". I received an advance reader's copy from TheReadingRoom.com, but it will be released on May 28, 2013.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. Not a genre I normally read, but I really loved this one. I really enjoyed how the author came up with a story built around vintage photographs.

I'm reading "You've Been Warned" by James Patterson. Not a deep book, but interesting.

The Blessed by Ann H. Gabhart; historical fiction set in a Shaker village in 1844. There is a little romance in it, but it is not the main part of story. I recommend this if you enjoy historical fiction and reading about different religions and cultures. I learned about the Shaker culture reading this, which spurred me to research more about it online. I love books that make you want to learn more about a subject.

A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter; a classic from 1906. I loved this one! There were a couple of nights I stayed up way too late reading it because it was so hard to put down! The main character reminds me a lot of Anne Shirley; if you liked Anne of Green Gables I think you would enjoy this story as well.

Clair de Lune by Jetta Carleton The setting for this story is southwest Missouri, 1941, before the U.S. has entered World War II. A single young woman named Allen Liles has just taken a job teaching at a junior college in a small town. She dreams of one day moving to New York and being a writer. She strikes up a friendship with two young men who are students, George, a lanky, carefree spirit, and Toby, dark-haired with a searching soul. They get together after school and on weekends, bantering and debating over books, ethics, and philosophy, innocently at first, but then it turns into flirtation, until Allen and one of the young men push things too far. Allen finds that the quiet happiness she has struggled so hard to attain, and her future, are in jeopardy. This was a time when young women still had limited choices, and the potential for social ostracism lurked around every corner.

Last night I finished Don't Spend It All On Candy by Audrey Meier DeKam. Quirky memoir about how the author and her 2 older sisters grew up on welfare in the 1980's, and how they not only survived, but had the tenacity to break the cycle of poverty when they became adults.

I just finished Until We Reach Home by Lynn Austin; I loved it! Well researched historical fiction about 3 sisters who left in Sweden in 1897, after their parents died, to come to America. The story follows their often harrowing voyage across the ocean, detention at Ellis Island, before finally making it to Chicago where their uncle lives.
