I don't like it as a diet - it only gives you about 1200 calories per day and if you excercise you need more than that; I don't think this is clearly explained in the adverts etc...and as a result people are sticking to the plan and exercising and their bodies aren't getting the nutrients needed, which can prevent weight loss and cause health issues.

I prefer good old fashioned excersing and sensible eating - which isnt that difficult these days if you really put your mind to it and will help you keep the weight off in the long run as you are teaching yourself the steps to a healthier, more active lifestyle at the same time.

I have used the slim fast diet in the past, and have lost more than 20 pounds back in 2010. One surgery and 3 job changes later I have went back up to 189 pounds as of 10/17/14. I am now back on the slim fast plan, and love the taste of the equate milk chocolate when I am at work, and the slim fast rich chocolate royale powder when I am at home...I make these with ice, to trick my stomache into thinking that its fuller. This time around, I am keeping a better eye on my calories, and since 10/17/14 I have lost 7 pounds. I want to get to my goal weight of 130 by Memorial Day 2015. The only problems that I really notice is the first week or so is always the hardest because I have to retrain my body with how I eat. I will check back in, in about a month or so to let you know how it is going.

Ok for a quick pre event dieting, but if you need longer than 3 or 4 days, you get sick of it, and will quit and eat more than before. If you are single, it might work, if you are vainly looking for a suitor, lol and feeling at the end of your rope. But if you cook for a family, Slim Fast or any Fast won't be "fast" at all.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

Too many chemicals and too much sugar for me. I got really nauseous the 2 x I tried them and had "unfortunate side effects" for several days afterwards.

I make a protein shake using egg whey powder and Chocolate carb free Carnation Instant breakfast powder. 160 calories, 23 grams of protein no chemical taste and no gastric distress.

I cook one meal a day, use left overs for the next days lunch and eat a lot of apples, carrots, celery , hummus and some other fruits and veggies and yogurt. Keeps me full and tastes a lot better then SlimFast.

Well, i think what works for one person, doesn't always work for another, and that holds true for meal replacement shakes as well. Personally, they have helped me. I work a LOT, and do not always have time to make and prepare meals and snacks. So taking a shake or a snack bar on the go is perfect. I would love if i could stay at home and whip up wonderful recipes and bag up snacks and healthy treats each day, but I can not. You find what works for you, and go from there.

I think there are a lot better (meaning more nutrient dense) shakes out there on the market today. Protein shakes pretty much took the place of Slimfast.

this was one of those things I kept on hand when I couldn't get lunch, or took with me when traveling in case I was stuck and couldn't get a meal. In 12 1/2 years at my former job, I probably drank less than 6 of them (and I went for the Hershey version, can't remember the actual product name)

I cannot be satisfied with a liquid meal; a glass of skim milk for a snack is fine, but the only way I could 'drink' a meal and have it hold me for a few hours is drinking a smoothie

I don't do it on a regular basis but it is much easier than having to plan food all the time. I struggle with putting together balanced meals that are satisfying to my taste so just having something easy is a better way for me to go. I found a healthy breakfast bar for my breakfast and then just drink the Slim Fast and have some fruit for lunch. Then I just have to worry about dinner.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

You don't "have to cook" 3 times a day - once or twice is plenty. And what is wrong with cooking, anyway? Needn't take much time - unless you want it to

I use it for breakfast and lunch occasionally If I go up a pound or two out comes the slimfast or special k until I go back down. I also use the snack bars between meals. It works well for me. The shakes are best if they are almost frozen, Its cut and dry no calorie guessing, easy to fix and fast emoticon .

Alot of people on here are so negative. It wasnt a lifestyle change for YOU... that doesnt mean someone else can't benefit by having a slim fast for breakfast if they dont like to eat in the morning. Im sick of all the negativity on this website... I thought this was supposed to be an uplifting group, not a bunch of people telling everyone else how to live when you have the same issues going on. Noone here is an expert!

one year during my tax season I did it and lost a LOT of weight. however, it's not a lifestyle change and although I felt healty using it and eating healthy meals (and not snacking due to my love of the chocolate shakes), wasn't a long term change.

It was also easier when they had the instant canned SF in many 7-11's, etc. I don't see it as much nowadays so I slowly stopped using it.

Are you afraid to try or are you afraid to fail?

I used to use it as a replacement meal, but never for a whole day. I later figured out that the ingredients/nutrition don't measure up.

I have found success in the past with a couple of ready made slim fast during the day and a almost healthy meal. I am not a breakfast person and I work long hours (10-12 hour days 6 days a week) in the community frequenting fast food play areas (since July I gained 30 pounds and currently weigh more than I did pregnant) with my clients when the weather prohibits the park making the shakes perfect for me. I am now on day two and only lacked energy yesterday at end of day so I will try adding an emergen-c water in the early afternoon and see if that helps. I am also trying to have my healthy meal for lunch instead of dinner after doing some research.

Yes, I have tried the plan. I prefer something I can chew. The shakes aren't satisfying/filling alone, and the bars pricy for me-I will have a store brand 90 calorie cereal bar for a snack. I did use their plan for a week when I was stuck on a plateau. It did get me losing. So as with anything, you can lose if you stick with the plan, but it does get boring fast. I have nothing negative to say about the product, and I still add some of the vanilla powder version to a fruit smoothie or a tsp. as coffee creamer.

I did try it a long time ago. I would drink a shake and be so mad hungry that I would go and eat something else.

I have also had to be on liquid diets before medical procedures and I cannot last more than a day. And then I binge

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Eat what you like and if someone comments, eat them too

I only use the slimfast shakes in the morning due to living in an apartment with an oven that likes to not turn off so I don't trust cooking then leaving for work right after. The rest of the day I use portion control and healthy food and I do cook a good dinner since I will be home. I've just started my journey but I will have to use this method until I can find something better that I don't have to cook and is fast to make before heading off to work at 5am. I'm also a picky eater so starting off has been a challenge to find good food that I actually like and will eat so the one shake just works for now.

It tastes awful too. I'd rather cook anyday.

I tried it a couple of years ago. It did not really work well for me. I felt hungry and tired most of the day. If you look at the nutritional information for the bars and the shakes there really isn't that much good stuff in there. I find oatmeal with brown sugar and fruit to be almost as convenient and much more filling. You want to fuel your body with nutrient rich food and slim fast doesn't seem to meet that criteria.

I trieid this a long time ago and it worked for me about 3 weeks, and I then I started back regular eating. Most of the time though, it left me feeling hungrier and it didn't give me all the nutrients that I needed.

easier, yes, in some aspects.
However, not sustainable as a long-term (lifelong) solution or menu choice, in my estimation.

LADYARIES71 - After having been there, done that, i can tell you that an approach like that is bad news.

the bottom line is that in order to lose or keep it off, one must learn to make the right nutrition choices, educate themselves as to how their body actually works rather than what the media tells them, and a commitment to regular exercise. Anything that falls short of this is a fast track to failure.

So what happens when the Slim Fast runs out and you are left with real food choices? The first question in any weight loss solution is "is it sustainable?", "can I do this for the rest of my life?". If the answer is no, then it isn't really a solution.

There is NO subsitute for healthy, balanced nutrition and regular exercise.

I saw this story today and it's pretty motivational.

So it does work... you have to want it and it has to be right for you.

I knew someone who tried to use Slim Fast to lose weight. She ended up gaining weight. Of course, she was doing it wrong. I would see her drink three of them for breakfast and she still ate all kinds of cookies and junk. I tried it myself but it wasn't for me. They're too sugary.

I used it years ago and lost 10 lbs tasted better than the new combination of flavors they offer now. I also used it another time while working it was a good break time drink or a lunch supplement especially good when you didn't want to be eating a heavy meal and have to get back to work. Making your own shakes are a good ideal on those days when you have time to do so, I've done them with low fat milk and peanut butter, low fat milk and fruit, depends on what you like you can do a shake combination I'm sure you will like better than slim fast you just have to have time to prepare it. Keep up the good work emoticon emoticon

They are loaded with sugar. That is one of the main reasons that people are always hungry on this. Would much rather take the time and prepare food once a week for the entire week than rely on man made stuff that doesn't work.

Slim Fast isn't meant to "live off", it's meant to help you lose weight. Noone says you should drink Slim Fast and not exercise. Most people are ravenous because anytime you significantly reduce your calories you will be, until your tummy gets used to it. Lets face it, we got fat by over indulging, so you will be hungry for a week or two and you should prepare yourself for this prior to starting. Realize there will be a transitional stage of discomfort. I notice many people responding didn't even make it that far on the Slim Fast diet and those people who did and lost weight said they gained it all right back. Well yeah, you cant go back to eating like you used too once you stop the diet. Sorry but there is no oatmeal or other breakfast that is faster than a Slim Fast shake. I drink the ones that come from Costco (generic brand Kirkland), they taste a lot better. I have 3 snacks and I eat whatever I want for dinner. Basically I used to eat whatever I wanted all day long, so this is a lot healthier. I'm losing weight. I don't feel deprived because I allow myself to have that one meal per day where I eat "normally". My budget is also doing well... once I get to my goal, which is a significant loss, I'll be mindful. I will probably start with including a light lunch and replacing one shake per day. Once I get to that point I'll re post to add more positive feedback to this post.

Tried it a couple of times over the years. Get very boring. Another fad diet that I could not maintain. OK for a snack but not to replace real food.

I drink a slimfast shake for breakfast, along with a banana and some grapes. Then I have another one for lunch, along with some carrot and celery sticks and nonfat yogurt. They are a great source of calcium and other nutrients and don't have a lot of calories.

My favorite flavor is french vanilla...

I lost 23 pounds on this diet several years ago. Kept it off for a long time too. It was easy for me. I work 12 hours shifts and have to bring three meals, plus snacks with me to work. Thats a pretty big lunch bag!!! A couple of shakes, a few bits of fruit and one meal... much easier for me to fit into a work day. On days I was home, i cooked regular meals. For me, at that time in my life, it was a Godsend! Not sure I would do it now, although if I am feeling poorly, and know that I need to get some sort of nutrition into me.. I still keep some around!
