No but I pack her breakfast since lunch is provided. I always go healthy with fruit or fruit and grahm crackers or low calorie cereal. She loves it and knows nothing about the other junkfood breakfast options!

My little one won't eat many of the hot lunch meals (or enough of them to make it worth paying for) His lunch box usually has a string cheese, gogurt, a peanut butter sandwich or peanut butter crackers, bunny grahams and a water bottle.

Since she's in summer camp thru her school, they feed her lunch and two snacks. But when she's back in school to learn, we pack her lunch and it's usually a turkey & cheese, ham & cheese or PBJ sandwich, a fruit roll up, grapes or whatever fruit she's craving that day, chips, and a juice pouch.

Today she's buying b/c she left her lunch box at school.

all of the schools in our area are "nut free" ....so no PB & J which sucks because my kids would eat that everyday!! So instead it is tuna sandwiches, egg sandwiches, cheese sandwiches, along with low fat nut free granola bars, low fat pudding, yogurt, cheese strings, fruits... lot's of fruit. I stopped putting in drink boxes because my daughters doctor explained to me the lack of nutrients they give. LOADS of sugar and nothing beneficial, so both my children take a water bottle to school.

Should have said in my last post that my kids pack their own lunches (high schoolers). Today I think my daughter took a yogurt, clementine and a turkey-broccoli mini-quiche that I made in muffin cups yesterday. And my son took a lean pocket, apple and some pretzels.

Usually fruit, yogurt, goldfish, cheese stick, water and/or juice/milk box. Plus sandwich meat for my daughter. They are both in preschool and it is a nut free school. My son doesn't really eat meat only peanut butter so it is very hard to pack for him.

My daughter packs her own lunch...but she has either a sandwich with turkey and vegies or leftovers that she heats up, or a lean cuisine and then snack is lowfat yogurt. She is taking homemade lf potato soup with 100 cal pack of cheeze-its and an apple this week and she drinks water with her meal. She has milk in the morning and then in the afternoon after school.

yacult is the brand name but you can get it in 'no name' brands as well. It is a lactobacillus casei fermented drink that puts back the 'good' bacteria into your gut (as yohgurt does). Are you sad you asked now! It comes in a little tiny milk bottle shaped container and is very good for you. kids love it over in OZ as well as places like Japan.

Chicken caesar salad, watermelon cubes, Starbucks mocha, pretzels, strawberries, and Clif Bars for my 15 year old dance team daughter. She needs protein, veggies, fruits, salt, potassium and surprisingly, the mocha has the same calorie and carb protein ratio as chocolate milk and she will drink the mocha!

My children's school is nut free, so PB&J is out of the question! They also don't have access to a microwave. They usually bring a turkey or cheese sandwich with chips and an apple, pasta with sauce in a thermos, chili, or leftovers like baked chicken nuggets and baked fries in a thermos.
You can keep the food warm until lunch time in a thermos by doing this: Put boiling water in the thermos and close the lid for about 5 minutes while preparing the food to put in it. If sending pasta or soup, heat it on the stove until it is boiling. If sending other leftovers that cannot be cooked that way on the stove, place them in the oven until very hot. Once the food is ready, pour out the boiling water from the thermos and put the hot food into it. Seal it up immediately. My daughter says that by lunch time her food is perfectly warm the way she likes it. I learned that tip from another mom at my daughter's school.

Today I made him a triple decker sandwich with three thin slices of Jalepeno/Cheddar bread, with ham, cheese, mustard and lettuce. (He loved it.)
I've also packed him some pita pocket sandwiches. These have been his favorite so far. Mix turkey and ham, cheese, lettuce.
Another day I had made these homemade pepperoni calzones. I heated one up real good that morning, wrapped it in a paper towel, then with foil. He has the last lunch, so it was barely warm, but it was warm enough for him, and he loved it.
To keep the regular sandwiches cool, we slightly freeze one of the Kool-aid flavored water pouches.
And of course, I put in some type of chip, and usually a dessert of some kind. I did put in some fruit this week, and he said he ate it. :)

I have run into the problem with my daughter not eating her sandwich, also. If she doesn't eat her lunch, she doesn't get a snack when she gets home. She muxt wait for dinner. Lucky for her, we eat dinner around 4:30!! Usually she has eaten everything else in her lunchbox, just not the sandwich! Like you all, she is very limited on her side items. Now I have introduced a thermos into her lunch, so there's more of a variety...soup, salad(she loves that), something like that.

I'm lucky with my son. He'll take just about anything. Soups galore or pretty much any kind of sandwich. His absolute favorite is an egg salad sandwich. He'll do the occasional pb&j but would prefer anything else. All the sandwiches have a little mayo and lettuce on them.
My daughter is my finicky eater. I try and I try to get her to sample more stuff, but her bottom line is either a pb&suger (a VERY light sprinkle) or 1.5 turkey dogs cut up. She's so funny - she tells me her taste buds just haven't developed yet. I told her they would if she would just try more stuff!
They both get one junk thing and one healthy thing - usually an apple, raisins, grapes or carrots for the healthy thing and chips or a sweet thing like a ho-ho or cookies. That's their big treat for the day so they have to decide if they want it in their lunch or for dessert.
They usually get to have one sweet drink for the day so they can choose from a juice box or make a Kool-Aid out of their water with those little packets. The rest of the day they get water or milk. We splurge enough on the weekends when we pick a night to go out and they can have a soda.

It wasn't for my kids, but for my niece. She requested turkey on whole wheat with a little mustard, lettuce, tomato. She also got a thermos of Campbells healthy request chicken noodle, 1 cup of my homemade applesauce and a diet pepsi. She is 16 and about 75 pounds overweight. She is watching me lose my weight and staying motivated, so she turns to me to help her. I'm so proud!!! She also carries around a 48 oz. bottle of water that she drinks throughout the day at school.

my son likes a turkey w/cheese on wheat. A piece of fruit or two, carrots, and water. In the winter he likes to put dinner leftovers in his thermos. And he insists on taking a bottle of water.

Danielle-If you put hot food in a thermos it should be pretty warm by noon. I put a folded up paper-towel between thermos and drink and the ice pack on the other side of the drink. or wrap drink and ice pack in papertowel. I send leftover spaghetti, hamb helper, I make grilled cheese (Wrap in foil)and tomato soup, even cheese dip and chips/veggies. The nacho cheese dip has either meat &/or beans so they are still getting protein and it is something different.

My son takes a cheese roll up - tortilla microwaved with shredded cheese and rolled up. It is cold by the time he eats it, but I microwave it so that it will roll up and stick together. He also takes a little yogurt from Trader Joe's, carrots and sometimes an apple.

My teenagers make their own lunches, but my 5 year old gets a Capri-Sun, a bottle of water, half a sandwich with chicken or turkey and light mayonnaise, a cheese string (when they are on sale), a low-fat yogurt, and a small pack of baked chips. Sometimes she gets small cookie too. She gets a piec eof fruit and a milk during the morning break time at school.
My teens can have all of that, but they choose Doritos instead of baked chips, and one of them always brings fruit.
When i was at high school here in the UK i had a brace fited and couldnt eat very well for a few days. My mum made me soup in a thermos flask and it was still warm enough by lunch at 12.45(and it's much colder here i think)!

Is it true that if you heat something really hot and place it in a thermos it will still be warm a few hours later?
My daughter doesn't have microwave or fridge, so I usually pack an ice pack to keep her juice cold and didn't know if it would take away from the heat of the thermos.
I normally pack the lunch around 8 and she eats an noon...
She doesn't like sandwiches, so I'm running out of ideas!

My daughter used to take a PB&J every day last year for Kindergarten, but she started first grade out this year wanting just a PB sandwich, no jelly. Now she doesn't even want a sandwich. Just PB crackers, some cheetos, and a little debbie. She does drink, water. That's at least one healthy thing. I also sometimes substitute a package of fruit snacks or pudding for the little debbies. Whenever I send fruit (banana, apple, grapes, peaches, whatever) it comes right back home in her lunch box. My child is skinny as a rail, so I'm not too worried. I just don't want her to eat junk all her life and have a problem later. At least she wants healthier meals at home (tomato soup, grilled cheese, chicken, peas and carrots, corn on the cob, and spaghetti noodles with parmesan cheese on it are her faves).

I envy all these Moms that can send PB& J too. I never ate them so my kids haven't either but it sure would be easy and inexpensive. My youngest took turkey and cheese in a sub roll today. Boar's Head Turkey=$10.99 lb! They only like the natural turkey breast so it's BH or Sara Lee brand which seems to go bad too fast. Karen
