Bubbles are coming now so I shall try and take another pic - the right way up this time! Not sure if there is a way of turning this picture.
Petalia you are welcome to come to my kitchen any time. I'm a great make-do-and-mender and the advantage of a whisky bottle over a stone is I can get the weight through the opening of the mason jar. I tried a large pebble wrapped in clingfilm but it didn't hold the cabbage down. Also I don't really like plastic in long term contact with any ferment.

I would love to enter your kitchen and stumble across the whiskey bottle holding down the cabbage. What a curious artifact!
