I am 57 and like most of us, still learning. I have recently learned a whole lot about weight loss and exercise and I feel so much more in charge of my diet and that part of my life. thanks to sparkpeople and the other members for giving me that personal power.

I am 62 on Tuesday the 29th. Most of the time I look good when I put on my make-up. They say your as beautiful as you are loved. Been married for 42 and a half years. It will be 43 on June 24th. I always say to my husband Don that I am shooting for 50 years with him.

Ok guys it's Christmas. I can not do the Christmas baking without also doing some sampling!! I'm trying to keep it to 1 sample per item and intend to walk it off. We are having Christmas at home with the extended family. My daughter flys back to Australia from her holiday in Cuba on Christmas day, having breakfast with friends before heading off to the airport. One of my sons is having lunch with his partners family and then driving the 3 yours to our place. What a busy life we lead. I intend to enjoy Christmas including the food but intend to be very very good after that and I will not put myself through feeling guilty. Merry Christmas to all. Happy baking!!!

The kindest thing any of can do for each other is to bring a glass of water to each other any time we think of it. I spout it often and am a camel when it comes to drinking. We all forget that hydration affects muscles, joints, hair, skin, and our general state of being. Remember that many headaches are due to dehydration. So easily altered and not so easy to do. Get on it! We get too self absorbed and forget others.........start offering! Also.....do not use the word diet.......once out of our mouths all we can do is think of how much food we can have for a day. Stay busy and move every time you think of food. And then make a civil act of sitting down and enjoying what you are eating.

I saw an old high school friend after 30 years and he told me I was beautiful. What more did I need to hear? I didnt care about my wrinkles anymore! That was the affirmation I needed to hear he thought I was still beautiful and I am not 18 anymore. Love the skin you are in!

Fabulous for me is a state of mind....not a vision in the mirror or a weight on the scale. 8 years ago....I was told by DR I would need two total knee replacements in 5 years... I was using a cane had tons of pain everyday and living a woes me life.. My life's work is stage management in the theatre... Non mobility is a big issue.. Years of abuse had taken it's tole... I went to NY to see a show and decided that "I" could change or live miserable...Threw away the cane and got on with it....Living everday like it is the first day!!!
Lost weight....Went back to college and do nonprofit management now....long distance on a consulting basis for Arts Orgs. from Singapore instead of the States. I have lived here the last year with my family as expats for my husbands job... a new adventure.
I still struggle with my weight... My knees stlll hurt some. I enjoy each new wrinkle and point them out with pride to my 12 year old daughter as hallmarks of a life well lived. But I am no longer defined by these things it is about what is inside me... not my 55 years on earth but my spirit.... my joy for life my love in my heart that extends out to the world
Stop being tough on yourself.... look at the things you have and love .....You can do it you so deserve it!!!!!

Kayasi nailed it. And BMWD3553, everything you do is a CHOICE. You are the one in control. Start telling yourself you CAN, and DO. Just take a 10 minute walk (one way) and you will have to do another 10 coming back. Or walk the mall from one end to the other a few times if the weather is bad. CHOOSE to get off the couch - CHOOSE to put one foot in front of the other - make a walking date with a friend or with your husband. CHOOSE something healthy instead of the root beer float -- treat yourself ONE day a week instead of every day.. It definitely takes some mental muscle, but you CAN DO IT!

I'm close to being 60 and still feel very young. Skin sags and wrinkles appear. The secret is not to look at 'oneself' too often! Be content, yet progressive, in your own life. Look at other people and see what you can do for them, , and let the mirror lie all it wants... you are as young as you feel!

I am 51 and just starting to feel good. As you get older, one should be more concerned about how you feel about yourself and less about what others may think about you. Fifty and feeling young.

I think we all have a problem keeping motivated, just keep trying.

I would like to lose 20 to 25 pounds. I'm a 56 year old house wife. I don't seem to be very motivated . I wish I could start being like a lot of people who can get themselves sticking to a plan to walk or ride a bike and eat less. I have started doing that. I don't eat much. And if I do I feel guilty. I bought a root beer float the other night. I shared some with my husband. But then he felt guilty too. He wants to lose some pounds too. He has heart disease. I have some stomach trouble too. He is 68 and has a pace maker also. So we really do need to eat less and healthy. we live in Baytown,Texas. It's 30 miles east of Houston. Barbara & Johnny

I'm 68 and I don't feel old. You're only old if you think and act old. Keep fit and you'll have a ball!

I'm 55 and am really loving it. I've learned so much about what looks good on me that I look better now than I ever did. I like what I see when I look in the mirror. It could be that my eyesight isn't what it once was, but I prefer to think that I simply look better. My tips - invest in great looking teeth, buy some expensive jewellery, get a hobby that keeps you occupied instead of constantly thinking about how much you weigh, etc., get rid of all the fast food in your life, buy the diet variety of everything (it tastes just fine), and wake up one day looking the way you want to. It shouldn't be such a struggle. It should be a way of life.

You have made the first step, just keep walking or some type of activity. I am 54 and I need to do this for my health as well looking good. GOOD LUCK

Good Luck! You can do this! It is definitely possible and wanting to stay fabulous is half the battle. I think one big help is exercise. I have a friend who works in a high end store in the couture department. She says that there is a big difference between being skinny and toned. She says that the women who exercise are toned and look fit and fabulous even into their 60's.
