Seeking New Team Leadership

Hi folks! I have an invitation for you. I am seeking more leadership for this team. It would be helpful if we had two or three leaders for this team. That would make the load easy.

There are new members to welcome. You can set up an automated Spark Mail to go to new members. I love this feature. No matter what hour of the day or night, my welcome message gets to each new member as soon as they join.

There are 500 team goodie points every month. These are great for welcome mats and other welcome goodies, goodies for points leaders on team digests, for team members who have special achievements or for folks who are struggling for some reason.

In the last few months my life has changed so much. My mum passed away a month ago after an extended illness. Now my life keeps changing. I thought I might be back into my old Spark routine now. While I discover my new baseline in my life, I want the team to still benefit fully from SparkPeople’s benefits. I do not have to leave the team. If I leave and someone else takes over, they will be in the same lone position in which I am now. If at least two people step into leadership, then I would be happy to leave team leadership.

Well, are you ready?

A Message from SparkGuy: Announcing the Launch of SparkAmerica

Monday, August 02, 2010
Hello SparkPeople Members!

I'm excited to share with you the launch of an exciting new program and website called SparkAmerica! Here is the official announcement page, but I wanted to share some thoughts with you here as well.

SparkAmerica is a new campaign that has many fun and exciting aspects.

First, SparkAmerica is a great way to motivate YOU to stay on track to reach your goals. It emphasizes taking consistent, small actions that make a big difference, such as doing 10 minutes of daily fitness and earning SparkPoints on the site. We have seen these types of activities change so many lives over the years. Several years ago, we created an online program in our hometown called SparkCincinnati that was similar to this. It was a hit around the city and we have always wanted to take this program national (and eventually global). Now is the time for SparkAmerica!

Second, SparkAmerica is a great new way to Spread the Spark to everyone you know. Our number one source of new members is current members who spread the spark. But we know that many members feel uncomfortable talking about weight loss with their friends. SparkAmerica changes all of this since it is a new site that is geared toward everyone—not just people who might be interested in losing weight. So, it’s a great way for you to help your friends, family and co-workers reach their goals.

Third, SparkAmerica is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a major impact on the lives of Americans—and eventually people around the world! It's a great example of what we see on the site every day: members reaching their own goals, supporting and motivating each other, and then Spreading the Spark to more people. Imagine if we're able to do this on an even larger scale!

SparkAmerica will be integrated into your current SparkPeople experience. We're rolling this out slowly and will add more references to SparkAmerica on the SparkPeople website (like on the Fitness Tracking page, for example). You can also visit www.SparkAmerica.com and share it with your friends.

Since SparkAmerica is such an exciting program, several major partners have already signed on to help participate in this campaign. YOUR participation and enthusiasm will make it even easier for us to continue to partner with even more great organizations. This could even turn into a great way for us to feature SparkPeople members in major media stories about SparkAmerica and SparkPeople. Who knows, eventually we could even have a TV show or special that grows out of this concept! I know all of this is possible because of the excitement I see on the site every day.

Please let me know your thoughts below.

Thanks for your support. I appreciate it. SparkCheers!

Chris "SparkGuy" Downie

P.S. For our members outside the United States, our goal is to eventually add this program for more countries as well. The more members and tracking we get from other countries, the easier it will be to work with possible partners in those countries to turn this into a big program for our international members.

Hi Everyone!

Recently we've had a number of issues with members posting copyrighted information- primarily in their blogs. The original authors have been contacting us, asking that their work be removed, or properly cited, or in some instances they want to be paid for the fact that someone else is using it.

I'm asking that you pass along this reminder to your teams:

If you are going to post something on the boards or in your blog that someone else has written, you need to credit the source. Our policy is that you can post a few sentences and then you need to link to the source so that people can read the rest of it. You should not be posting an entire article, for instance, and if you are going to post something you always need to cite it.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and for spreading the word about this to your teams!!

30 New Exercise Demos, Including Balance Board Ideas!

30 New Exercise Demos, Including Balance Board Ideas!
News from Coach Nicole!

(go to this link to be able to click on links within her announcement: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

)

Hi everyone!

We wanted to let you know that we've added 30 new demos to our expansive exercise library! Most of these feature an inflatable balance board, which is an inexpensive and versatile fitness product that we also sell in our SparkPeople Store. For those of you who purchased it already, and those who thought about it but weren't sure how to use it, you can refer to these demos for ideas. If you have a different balance board at home or at the gym, you can still follow the majority of these exercises!

You'll find most of these exercises in the core (abs) exercises section, but you can also use a balance board for lower body exercises (such as lunges) and upper body exercises (like several versions of pushups). We hope you like what you see—including our new male "model," Tim—a long-time SparkPeople employee!

To easily brose through all of the balance board exercises, just search at the top of the site for "balance board exercise" and you'll find the entire list!

We've also added a few demos using an ab wheel (here's an example), which you'll find in the Core Exercise Demos section, too. This is a common piece of equipment that many people have at home and at the gym.

Coming soon, our experts are going to create full workouts using these new balance board demos. We also have more exercise demos using other pieces of small equipment, such as medicine balls and foam rollers coming your way very soon!
