Weekly Check In & Newsletter
Happy March Friends!!! It's time for something new. We're starting the third month of the year. I don't know about anyone else but my "umph" is lacking. So, I'm going to post a new challenge per the suggestion of another teammate, and get our "umph" back!
Onto the weekly weigh ins! We only had 10 people weigh in this week. I'm not sure where everyone is but 10 is better than none. So, with those 10, we had a total loss of 10.6 pounds which means that we averaged 1 pound per week. That's

I don't know about anyone else but with this crazy weather it seems likes colds are back at full force. Two different days this week, I woke up with a scratchy throat. Here are 10 Sore Throat Remedies just in case this catches you too!
Make this week count. Don't forget to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and drink at least 8 glasses of water throughout your day.
News, Weigh ins and other happenings...
You guys and gals are on FIRE!!!!! I've seen a lot of you getting involved; posting blogs, checking in on the daily chat, encouraging each other, and posting weigh ins. I am SO excited and SO happy to see you getting involved. This is key to success!! The community of Spark People and your Team is important to your journey.
The other part of your journey that is important to your success is how you see yourself. How do keep going? How do you continue to keep the motivation when the scale isn't agreeing? Think about yourself as an Olympian!!
The weigh in results are in!!! The weigh ins are from 2.1 to 2.15 for calculations! (Sorry I missed last week). However, there were 14 people who weighed in and we lost 26.5 pounds!!!!!!!!!!
Biggest Loser: LUANN7 with 9.6 pounds. job!!! Go ahead, Shout out to Lu on this amazing loss!!!

News & Weigh Ins From January 24th!
Hey team! Wow - time is FLYING!
I know I'm late with the newsletter info.
So, after looking at the weigh in results from January 24th it appears that some of us are waning in our progress. But you know what? That's okay as long as we're still plugging along. I hope that this week has been a little easier and that you're back into the swing of things. We'll find out soon. Don't forget that weigh in posts are due before midnight on Friday's!

In other happenings, I'm thinking about starting a CLEAN EATING CHALLENGE!
If you've read much about nutrition than you know that 70-80% of our bodies are created by what we eat not how much exercise we do. Exercise is VERY important for fitness and health but we can only change our bodies 20-30% with exercise; the rest happens with what we eat and drink.
February is going to be our CLEAN EATING MONTH!!! I don't think we need to go crazy and do it every single day but lets try for 24 out of 28 days. That gives 4 days to splurge (birthday party, dinner out with friends, the super bowl parties, etc). You get my drift!
So what do you eat exactly? Here’s a list of awesome foods you can have!
Fish like cod, halibut, mahi mahi, red snapper, orange ruffy, ahi tuna, swordfish, tilapia, grouper
Chicken breast, turkey, tofu, tempeh, shellfish scallops
Lean meats like london broil, top round, porkchops, bison
Portion size for women: 6-8 oz, men 8-10 oz
Fatty Proteins (limit these, small portions, but include them!)
nuts like cashews, almonds, and walnuts
natural peanut butter
Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, sea bass (LOVE), trout, bluefin tuna
spelt, wheat, oat, rice, quinoa, chickpea flour (love this one)
Oils: (limit intake)
sunflower, coconut, walnut, grapeseed, pumpkin seed, avocado, olive oil
Fruits and Veggies: not going to list these all out. You guys know what are healthy fruits and veggies! Again watch the canned ones, and absolutely no canned fruits in syrup. They are loaded with extra sugars!
Eat these before workouts because they are higher calories and filled with a lot of nutrients!
bananas, dates, figs
Beans, legumes, and grains are 100% included. Not a believer in limiting beans. They are good for you!
This category includes lots of leafy greens like collards, mustard greens, kale, spinach, and more!
unsweetened almond milk
unsweetened rice milk
Brown rice, quinoa, barley, bulgur, freekah, whole wheat pasta, farro, couscous (stick to 1/4-1/2 a cup). Brown rice you can have a little more
oats, rye, rice cakes
lentils, pinto beans, red kidney beans, black beans, chickpeas, white peas, navy beans (stick to 3/4 a cup)
potatoes, sweet potatoes (4-6oz)
ezekial bread (1-2 slices)
superfoods like chia seeds, flax, goji, cacao
condiments like apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar (most vinegars), reduced sodium soy sauce, reduced sodium teriyaki, reduced sugar ketchup or organic ketchup (but limit), hot sauce, salsa, herb pastes, chili pastes, tomato paste, mustards, low sodium broths/stocks, cooking spray
Spices and salt
Coffee and tea (green tea especially- has a fat burning quality to it!)
Water, you can flavor with lemon slices or cucumber slices
Stevia (this has been a debate… stevia is a natural sweetener derived from a plant. I say use it!)
I'll be creating a challenge forum for discussion, recipe ideas, etc. while we're doing our challenge. This is going to be fun!!!!

Did you know that in two days it will be January 17th? I'm silly, of course you did. Do you know what January 17th is? The day when most people fall off the wagon of their new years resolutions and then never get back on. Well that's not going to happen to us! No way, no how! We're going to keep fighting and win this battle!
Interesting article that I came across today that I wanted to share with you. Have you every thought that maybe your personality determines the foods that you enjoy? Me either but new research suggests that it just might.

1st Newsletter of 2014!!!!
Hey team!!! Today is the first newsletter of the new year! I'm excited to see that many of you are getting involved on the message boards!!! YAY!
It's Winter and FREEZING for most of us! During this time of year, it's easy to want to stay inside and eat comfort foods. I know I personally crave a lot of soups and pasta bakes. While browsing the web today for some dinner ideas for the week, I came across these comfort food recipes that have less than 450 calories and thought I would share them for our first newsletter. Maybe you want to try one too. I think I'm going to try the Cauliflower Macaroni Cheese.
Our first weigh ins of the year were LOW! VERY LOW! I hope to see more of you getting involved in the weekly weigh ins this year.
We had 7 people weighed in. A few of you are just starting so you posted your SW which is fine. Hopefully next week, we see you lose 1 pound (or more if you work really hard this week).
