A Look Back On The Journey
VANDEMON

There's no special occasion for this post. A friend joined SparkPeople at my recommendation this morning, and I'm very proud of him for making that step. His doing so, and trying to find me as a 'friend' on his Spark journey, lead me to look at my SparkPage. I read over the text that was there, and I am just a bit amazed.

In December 2008, I created that page, and said 'my goal is to reach 200lbs by December 2009, that's a whopping 70lbs, but I hope I can do it'. It's September 2009, and I'm 165 pounds. I'm fitter, stronger, healthier than I've ever been in my ENTIRE LIFE. I've gone from a size 44 to a size 32 in jeans. I've gone from a large/extra large to a small/medium. I've gone from walking to the store on a semi-regular basis to walking 4+ miles a day.

I've sent pictures back to my family in Australia, and have not failed to get an amazed, shocked even, reaction. I'm happy with how I look. That's a first right there. I've always been overweight, as a child all the way through adulthood, and I've never liked how I look. Now, I'm finding myself trying to follow my wife's (DMGODDESS) words of advice and stand straight, instead of slouching down to hide.

Sparkpeople has given my wife and I the tools we needed to succeed. We haven't succeeded just because of this site, because there was a lot of hard work put in on our part, too! But without this site, I don't think we'd have succeeded. SparkPeople taught us HOW to diet, so that we could apply our determination to change our lives.

So, there's no reason for posting this, no special milestone except the realization that I've achieved everything I set out to accomplish, knocked those goals aside and achieved more. I know I can do it, because I have, and I'm never going back.

These muffins are very filling!

The whole wheat flour makes for a dense muffin, which I like. You only need to eat one! If you want a lighter muffin try using whole wheat pastry flour, which is more finely ground and available in the bulk bins at larger grocery stores.
