5K Commitment -- All Wet
Today my WW meeting was all about exercise and activity. I found myself re-energized and motivated to take it up a notch. I went to the Y from WW and did my hour long Zumba class, my strength training machines, and then another 25 mintues on the... Read more
Amazing "Sweet" Vegetables
It was an amazing revelation. As I enjoyed a fresh ear at supper last eve, for the first time I understood why they call corn "sweet corn." As I've cut back my sugar and sweetener I can begin to taste the sweet in corn, peas, and carrots. Someti... Read more
Fresh Fruit Plate
Today for lunch Natalie and I each had a fresh fruit plate. We enjoyed low fat cottage cheese with blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, and grapes. It was truly delicious and enjoyed by both of us. Somehow it seemed very special today.

Food Tracking for Maintenance
I have tracked my food all but maybe 10 days since December 1, 2008. I used to track with Weight Watcher paper journals. Now usually I track online @ SparkPeople. For a while I did both. When I go visit my mom in S Dakota (her summer home) in Ju... Read more
I Prefer to Eat More
I had a minor injury and had to cut back my exercise to allow my hip to heal. So I had to cut back my calorie range target in order to maintain my weight. My hip is now healed and I have added the calories back in.
I know without I doubt t... Read more
I attended a buffet today. Several people commented that it was a difficult place to eat wisely. Not for me.
I passed up the plain white dinner rolls. As far as I'm concerned they are nothing special. And then I didn't need the butter. So t... Read more
Learning from Our SparkFriends
The new Secrets to Success section of SparkPeople has become a real favorite of mine. I love reading what other people have found helpful. One thing I didn't figure out until today, though, is how to find the Secrets to Success that a specific S... Read more
This week I joined the SparkPeople Community Team, which I think is a sign that I am entering a new phase. (I'm convinced there are phases of maintenance, but I've yet to identify them in predictable order. See previous blogs if curious.) I am f... Read more
Phases of Maintenance
A couple days ago WalkingAnnie postulated that perhaps maintenance has predictable phases kind of like group development (forming-storming-norming-perf
orming). I've been thinking about that statement quite a bit. I think she's probably corre... Read more
Measuring Goal Achievement
I do better when I have a goal to work toward. My most recent goal has been to lower my body fat percentage from 29%, the "acceptable" range, to 24%, the "fit" range. I wasn't sure that was achievable for me at age 60 after a lifetime of obesity... Read more
Declaration of Health
I declare my hip officially healed! It did great for a whole hour of Zumba this eve. I planned to take it slow, but it was too motivating. I couldn't help it. I just got into it!! -Marsha... Read more
Teeth Whitening Update
I've used the bleach and trays four nights and I can see that my teeth are slightly whiter. I greatly reduced my coffee and tea use for two weeks, but then went back to it. My teeth are still whiter than they were before I bleached.

Glimmer of Sanity, Perhaps
Sometimes I worry that I may be obsessed - with food, with the scale, with exercise, with smaller clothes, with my waist line, with SparkPeople, etc. But I had an experience this week that made me think perhaps a glimmer of sanity on this issue ... Read more
New and Improved Streaking!
I looked at each of my streaks, eliminated several and added a couple. Overall, I've gone from 14 streaks to 9. I now track the whole FEWSS (food/fuel, exercise, water, sleep & SparkPeople) program, and focus on one of my weaknesses.

Review of Last 2 Streaks
I added 2 streaks myself, streak numbers 13 and 14. Thirteen tracked that I burned 307 calories per day, a number SparkPeople had calculated that I was suppose to burn with the exercise program I had chosen. After injury, I reduced that to 120 c... Read more
