After a year of lower-carb living, and a very rough winter with a lot of seasonal affective disorder and desperation-induced eating, the scale went over 200 for the first time since I was actively losing baby weight. Time to do something.

The more things change...
Checking in with a brief omnibus update.
I am no longer working hard at being Paleo, but the couple months I spent at it do seem to have changed my tastes in food. I don't want extremely sweet things, anymore. For example, while I did eat a... Read more
Pretty well stuck in
I've been going to the gym regularly for two months now and eating Paleo for about six weeks. Well, the Paleo has undergone a little revision. I was having headaches, dragginess, and some digestion problems after a couple weeks of following it 1... Read more
And today I am officially down 5 pounds since January 7. So there.
I'd like to reiterate that my weight problem didn't have anything to do with greed, laziness or stupidity. I guess it did have something to do with ignorance--I didn't under... Read more
Two week mark
Today marks two weeks on my modified Paleo regimen. I am down 4.2 pounds. Half of that came off in the first five days... the rest of it I count as legitimate fat loss. In the past four days I've lost .4 pounds.
After my crazy pipe-dreams o... Read more
Getting "churched" at the gym
Just after Thanksgiving I joined the local gym. I'd been pestering my husband with ill-formed family fitness ideas and he finally told me to just sign up. He works from home, he will watch our daughter while I'm gone.

In August I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. A glucometer confirmed that what I interpreted as hypoglycemic episodes were indeed hypoglycemic episodes. The doctor recommended I go on a low carb diet, with 100-130 grams of carbs a ... Read more
I started to spot last night, and this morning the lines on pregnancy tests are whisper-faint. So it's over. I'm going on the pill for six months. We need a break.... Read more
I just had a second beta-hcg test done, and the doubling time is 66 hours. Though that's within the range of "normal" (31-72 hours), it isn't good and I've been told to stop taking progesterone supplements, and that I'll probably start to bleed ... Read more
Here we go again
I had a positive pregnancy test yesterday. It is faint, but not a squinter. This morning's test looked exactly the same.
I already have progesterone to take, so I'm going to wait until Monday to call the doctor. The only thing she could do... Read more
So we spent a week at my parents' house. I matched proteins and carbs. I was often hungry--hungry enough to wake up in the middle of the night. I got a couple of walks in, not as many as usual because I felt so bad from sleeping badly.

Obviously this works
I was down to 194.2 this morning! Yeah! Down 1.5 pounds in ten days, hooray!
The IR Diet is really for me. I do get hungry frequently, but I also know that it's okay to eat frequently. I don't track or count, so I don't get paranoid about ... Read more
Observations two days in
I've been linking and limiting carbs for two days now. Knowing that I can eat every two hours is a great comfort. Not tracking anything stops me from getting neurotic about it. Also knowing that I can have whatever carb I want, though linked and... Read more
The Insulin Resistance Diet
After my appointment yesterday I was feeling pretty frustrated. I had kind of hoped that getting hypoglycemic on metformin meant that I wasn't insulin resistant at all. Turns out that it just means I'm unfortunate... and the fact that I get reac... Read more
Just had the follow-up appointment from my minor surgery two weeks ago. Just in case I wasn't clear on it, the doctor emphasized that what they found was probably *not* the cause of our secondary infertility. So grrrrrrrrr.
