8/14 Training Update
My legs feel like lead today. Yesterday was our 2nd to last brick at the evil Mount Vernon, and then we switch to the actual tri route, which I believe is quite a bit easier (well, the bike anyhow), and is shorter too. Yesterday's ride was a ver... Read more
This weekend was my second brick session of 6 for my olympic distance tri. Last weekend we did 20.8 miles on the bike and a 4.3 mile run. This weekend we did a 28.3 mile bike and a 5.2 mile run. And I use the term "run" very loosely to describe ... Read more
Tri Results - work to do.
So my goal for the tri was to finish in 1:41:00 or better. I did not accomplish this. I finished in 1:44:35. There were two main factors to this - one was that in the swim, I got caught behind a crowd of people that I just could not find a way t... Read more
July Update - First tri of the season soon!
So I am 6 days out from my first Triathlon of the season. It's a sprint race, so it's relatively short. But the bike course is tough, and the run makes me a bit anxious because it's a trail run (I never run trails), and it's going to be VERY HOT... Read more
Why is mile 1 so slow?
For whatever reason my early morning runs are ridiculously slow. Although I guess the one thing I am impressed with is my consistency. Mile 1 without fail every 4am run has been 11:44. Every time. Mile 2 tends to be slightly better. This morning... Read more
We finally did a brick ride on the route for our end of July triathlon. So we did about 16 miles in 68 min, and then a 5K in about 32 min. So this pace was not too bad. It's just such a hilly course!! But I felt good that we did it and in genera... Read more
Blogging hasn't been my strong suit recently, has it?
I guess at least I'm sort of getting in here once a month.
On a good note, I am at least tracking on a consistent basis!! I might skip one weekend day here and there, but in genera... Read more
Oops. Somehow I missed updating in April. And technically this is a little past the middle of May. But... I'm here! So that's what counts.
We missed the Run for the Fallen race in March. I came down with the flu the day before, and was out... Read more
So the scale has held steady at the top end of my goal weight range for the last couple of weeks - 130 pounds. This is OK with me because I started measuring again, and I've seen those heading south even though my weight has maintained. What I w... Read more
So far, so good!! So after 3 weeks of steady gain (total of 4 pounds), I had a 4 pound weight loss (perhaps it really was a combo of muscle, swelling, and hormones), because I most definitely was not eating enough to gain anything (I had a consi... Read more
Just a little update
So tracking my goals has really pushed me to also monitor calories and exercise, which in general is helping me, I think.
My scale says otherwise right now. I've been steadily gaining about 1 pound a week for the last 3 weeks now that I'm ... Read more
2017 Goals Update
Minor tweaks to the goals I've set:
1.) Run at least 4 road races (at least 3 at the 5K distance and at least 1 at the 10K distance)
2.) Run at least 3 Triathlons (Crows Lake Sprint, Lanier Islands Sprint, Tugaloo Olympic)
3.) Train prop... Read more
2016 Goal Review and setting 2017 Goals
Looking back on 2016, here were my goals and the results:
1) Maintain my ability to run 5K's - I am working my way back up to this. I am waiting on the results of an MRI that I had done in mid December, and the doc office was closed for an ... Read more
A slow re-start to running
So I was given the go-ahead to run a half mile. I know. 5 minutes of running. Wheee? It actually took us 6 minutes and 8 seconds. It was a very slow half mile. But on a good note I was not in any worse pain the next morning than I have been all ... Read more

The PT gave me permission to try a short (1/2 mile) run!!! I am still having foot pain, but it's getting much better, and I have a plan of attack to continue working on healing. Maybe running will aggravate it, but maybe not. I am super excited ... Read more
