Nothing to Blog about Blog
I'm sure I could think of something worthwhile to blog about but it's Sunday afternoon after worship and lunch, I'm tired, and I don't feel like going through the effort! However, I want my three points and thus the "nothing to blog about blog."... Read more
Getting Close to my Goal
This year I decided to try to get 2500 miles in on the bicycle which proved to be even more challenging then I expected. First of all, one can only ride outside in Minnesota for about 8 months (unless you're one of those crazy winter riders whic... Read more
Update on Yesterday, Wild Ride Today
Well, I was going to try to do a "cadence ladder" workout on the road yesterday (see yesterday's blog for details) but it was cold and raining and so I didn't do it. Rather, I set the bike up on the indoor trainer and completed the workout, alon... Read more
Cadence Ladder Workout Today
Some cadence workouts are best done on the trainer because it's very hard to peg your cadence at a particular rpm and hold it on the road, unless you live in a particularly flat area. However, if you live in an area where the roads undulate, you... Read more
Riding my Bike to Work Today
My daughter recently got her driver's license and since she doesn't have her own car, she and I have been sharing. Today I've decided to let her take the car which leaves me only with my bicycle. I have never taken my bike to work before but I'm... Read more
Unable to ride today
I was supposed to take a 10-mile or so ride today and work on speed, but circumstances would not allow it so I'll have to take a little longer one tomorrow--oh well, it was a perfect day for riding but I'm sure tomorrow will be nice as well.

I take one day off per week and when I say day off I mean it! I'm going to do a bunch of nothing today, and then back to work and back to the bike tomorrow.
Hope you have a good one!... Read more
Changing My Style of Riding
For most of my 11 years of cycling I've been more of a "masher" than a "grinder." That is, I tend to choose a bigger gear and push hard at a slow cadence (rpm) rather than choose a smaller gear and spin at a high cadence. But as this cycling yea... Read more
Training Plan for the End of Cycling Season
One thing about living in Minnesota is that cycling season has a definite beginning and end. To be sure, there are some crazies who ride all the way through the winter but I'm not one of them!
So I participated in the Jesse James Bike Tour... Read more
After a Long Haitus, I'm Back!
I haven't blogged on SP in a long time. I was so busy after my latest doctoral course and then went on a couple of weeks vacation, after which I have again been inundated in activity. I have been riding a lot as usual but just unable to spend mu... Read more
Weird Ride Today
I'm in the northern suburbs of Chicago this week for some doctoral work. I tried to get a ride in this morning and thus went to the Des Plaines River Trail only to find that its crushed lime rather than paved as a website I read said it was. Oh ... Read more
Hangin' in Chicago area this Week
I'm in a doctoral program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School which requires me to come to the campus for four days, 2-3 times per year. This is one of those weeks. I've read 6 or 7 books and wrote a pre-course paper to prep for our time this... Read more
Group Ride Today
After a couple of days of pushing it a bit in the saddle, I'm going to take a 35 mile ride with a group that rides a bit slower than me. This will be good for me as my legs are sore which surprises me because I've hardly been sore the whole year... Read more
Speed Day Today
Worked on developing speed today and completed the following workout:
Power Jumps: on a mostly flat course, do 3-5 sets of 5 jumps. A jump is 10-12 turns of the crank (each leg) at a high cadence. Recover for 1 minute between each effort a... Read more
Finally back on the bike today
Due to my wife leaving for India this week and a doctoral project I had to complete by this morning, I haven't been able to ride over the last couple of days. So it felt very good to be back in the saddle today. Did a quick 30 miles, nothing spe... Read more
