15 pounds down
I remain stunned that the biggest change I've made is to track my food and become more aware of my calories. I know that other elements have a metabolic impact, and I am also doing low-carb, so I think that makes a difference, but the biggest ch... Read more
First Goal Reached: One Under "One Under"
In the past I haven't set incremental goals for weight loss -- which I think was a big mistake. With so much weight to lose, focusing on a date almost a year in the future left a lot of room for rationalizing with "I'll make up for this later" a... Read more
First Comment on Weight Loss!
I've been back on SparkPeople for just over two weeks, and I've lost 7 pounds.
Today I'm wearing a top which was too tight a few weeks ago, and that's a wonderful feeling.
Just as wonderful was having a colleague I don't see often co... Read more
Hooray for the Home Team!
In quest of new insights -- and yes, more SparkPoints for today -- I followed the "Read a Health News" link from my SparkPoints page and found an article about a research project done by some of the people I work with!

Thoughts About My New Photo
I just added a new photo my gallery and made it my profile photo. As I'm sure many of you can relate to, I dislike seeing photos of myself right now, and would probably not have even had a photo taken if it hadn't been a special occasion: my dau... Read more
Well, this last week has been not-so-great for weight loss. I've lost and gained the same pound back 3 times, haven't been drinking water, haven't been exercising. Today I am simply grateful to be back down to my "5 pounds lost" point.

I Declare Victory
I am feeling *so much better* than I was earlier. . . . Things were so bad this morning that they were almost scary, but I've persevered. I ate twice my recommended number of calories today, and a majority of that in refined carbs, and barely ... Read more
Yesterday evening and today have been hard. My phone broke. My computer's CD drive appears to be broken -- just when I finally got a CD I've been waiting *years* to find. I had nightmares about being attacked and rendered suicidal, and woke up s... Read more
I May Need to Break Up With This Scale
My simple digital scale is several years old. . . and not entirely reliable.
It's bad enough that it often shifts up or down by .5lb or more when I'm stepping off, but it's becoming even worse.
This morning when I stepped on, it told ... Read more
"Full Figure Yoga"
I was *very* pleased with the yoga class last night: both how it was run and how well I did. It was a small class, with only five or six of us, although evidently several usual classmembers did not attend that night.
What surprised me was ... Read more
Days Like Yesterday Are Why I Weigh Myself Every Morning
How often someone weighs themself during weight loss is a very personal thing. For me, weighing daily is a must. It's far too easy for me to go into denial about the consequences of my choices -- especially if I've been doing well.
After a ... Read more
My Big New Goal!
Okay, yes -- I really do want to be strong enough and tough enough to do a Warrior Dash. That's a big, significant, even scary, goal.
But I finally found something really emotionally compelling as a "reached my goal" reward: going to the Ba... Read more

What I Did Instead
I did a full Spark weight workout -- and even added two arm exercises with dumbbells (I love curls and flies!). Then I did 20 minutes on my treadmill, followed by stretching. I feel nicely worked out all over!
