Calorie needs for women of different activity levels
This is from an article my gynecologist gave me at my appointment yesterday. The article is about the "female athlete triad" that I am currently exhibiting and that any active woman can find herself in if she's not careful.

Jealousy...and make sure you're eating enough!!!
There are a couple things that make me very jealous lately.
1. All I can think about when I see people out jogging is, "I used to be so impressive at that and I used to run long distances, and now I can't - but I swear I could! I swear I'm ... Read more
CT Scan Results
Quick background: my DHEA-S (some sort of "pre-testosterone" according to the doctor...basically, a male hormone) was really elevated, signaling to my doctor that I might have some kind of adrenal problem - which generally takes the form of a (u... Read more
Who tells a woman she looks like she's gained weight recently??
Okay, so I was being melodramatic and ridiculous the other day when I was feeling worried about being several pounds up from what I thought I ought to be. My weight was, of course, fine the next morning.
But today, I'm at work and lo and be... Read more
The only exercise I did today was 45 minutes on the elliptical and my usual strength training routine. I felt bad about that to begin with, since I'm used to either doing a really long run, or having some walks during the day in addition to card... Read more
I successfully cut back on one of my walks today!
I mean, I'd already walked 7 miles on breaks today (my lunch consisted of walking to the imaging center where tomorrow's CT will be in order to pick up the contrast medium I have to drink beforehand, and it was a longer walk than I realized). S... Read more
CT scan update and a "rest day"
I talked to my doctor today, told him that I was panicking after listening to his message, and he apologized and said that usually, if there is a tumor on the adrenal gland, it's benign. He said he wouldn't worry about cancer. So that's good to ... Read more
Scared/crying because I need a CT scan of my adrenals

Cholesterol has improved greatly!
My last lipid panel was done in May 2011, and I don't remember the exact results, but my HDL was kind of low-ish, and my LDL was 120, which was sort of borderline high. It was also 120 the year before, when I was 50 pounds heavier, so my doctor ... Read more

Interesting idea about anti-fat bias
That article links to the abstract for a paper proposing a hypothesis for why skinny people find us fat folk unappealing. I'm intrigued. I can kind of see where th... Read more
Still not eating enough??!
I've been eating 2300 calories a day and cutting back on running...and I didn't gain weight this past 10 days. In fact...this morning, I weighed in with my lowest weight ever, 117.8 lbs.
Ridiculous! And I'm still feeling somewhat uncomfort... Read more
I saw photos of myself today, and I cried
So my doctors have told me to gain weight, my family members have told me to gain weight, the body fat scanner told me to gain weight (11% body fat = BAD), but I've had such a hard time seeing myself as "too skinny." I have all this loose skin o... Read more
