It's Official - I am going to be a triathlete!
[insert important-announcement-type music]
I've decided: I will complete an Olympic-distance triathlon to celebrate my 50th birthday in September 2015. That gives me two years to prepare myself to swim 1500 meters, ride 40 km, and run 10 km... Read more
Why do I want to run?
I am having a terrible time motivating myself to go for a walk/run. (It's mostly walking, interspersed with running. At some point, my body will be able to handle running.) Now that I'm able to ride more, my motivation to walk or run at lunch ha... Read more
Kim's Tour Pro Moment
Took off down the road with my cycling glass still firmly wedged into my helmet. I felt very much like a pro. And heck, given all the painted-over penises that have been graffiti-ed onto the trail, it felt a little like France in July.... Read more
I'm a team leader for our local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Cycle for Life. I want to buy this kit. Yesterday, I decided that when I get down to 185 pounds (and stay there for a week, so no short cuts!), I get to buy it. Yes, it's pricey, but I w... Read more
As I was changing in preparation to ride my bike home, I discovered I didn't have shorts at work. I drove home. There isn't an emoticon sad enough to convey how that made me feel.... Read more
Will Power is a Muscle - It Gets Stronger with Use!
Yesterday, I ignored my nagging craving to eat a second helping of the Hub's fabulous chicken florentine for lunch. (Because I commute by bike, I bring in several days' lunches at once.) I still ate too much at dinner, but I was pretty happy wit... Read more
April's looking like March should have looked!
I didn't get a ride in this weekend. Saturday's winds were just too much. Sunday, after church, we went to a few nurseries and bought more goodies for the garden.
On my way back from court this afternoon, I started off in sunshine, noted a... Read more
Probably no ride today
There's a high wind warning today. I can tell just by looking out the window I don't want to ride. The forecast is for 30-40 mph winds with 50 mph gusts. The crazy thing is, I'm still tempted.
Maybe I'll go for a mountain bike ride instead... Read more
Yeah, it was windy
I rode home along the north side of the river. That's my normal route, but it's very exposed to the wind. The south side of the river has more protection from the wind, but that route adds four miles to my commute.
The waves on the river w... Read more
Windy day ahead
Here's the forecast for today:
SOUTH WIND 10 TO 15 MPH INCREASING TO SOUTHWEST 20 TO 30 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON. GUSTS AROUND 40 MPH.
I still plan on riding home this afternoon. On the plus side, there won't be many people out on the trail.... Read more
The Hubs and I spent last weekend at a lodge near 49 Degrees North ski area near Chewelah, WA, with one of his sisters. I love 49 North - lots of terrain, laid back atmosphere, rarely a wait to get on a chair lift. They don't charge for lift tic... Read more
I'm back! (I think)
I've been a lot more active this week. My allergies are ramping up a little, but the cold is gone. I've encountered a few other people who had the same symptoms: the cold hit like a freight train, no fever, but extreme tiredness. Dunno what it w... Read more
First ride in a couple of weeks
It's a beautiful day here. High 60's (so far), sunny, light variable wind. My throat is still a little scratchy from the Martian Death Cold I've had for over a week, but I needed to get out and ride. And I was richly rewarded. Over the first 64 ... Read more
And now, a wallow in self-pity
I walked yesterday morning. It was my first exercise in over a week. It was a slow walk, too (about 3 mph). Yesterday, I toyed with the idea of bringing my bike to work today and riding it home tonight. My motivation was probably to miss out on ... Read more
Being a sloth
My last bit of exercise was last Monday morning. I was scheduled for a walk/run, but I knew I didn't have it in me. I went for a short walk instead. I left work early that afternoon & went home sick.
I've spent most of the last seven days ... Read more
