A month, no blog? Time flies
I knew I'd been "slacking" on SP with other time commitments. Didn't realize it's been so long. Another way time flies: 3 months, a quarter year, since I hurt my back. Week by week, I think the pain, limited mobility, gone. Then, suddenly, I can... Read more
First Charity 5K
Even better: my daughter, 9, ran with my husband. I thought the course was up and back, and I planned on getting in 2 miles or so "batting cleanup" if my daughter wanted to walk with Mom as she tired of running with Dad. I was almost to the midp... Read more
My previous blogs, while heartfelt, have been downers. Accentuating the positives here: I cleaned my house today! Fellow flybabies: 15 minutes at a time when I felt overwhelmed. And as I worked through my kitchen table, I thought, ya know, I cou... Read more
Too Much, Too soon working out & kids
Hurt my back as July turned into August. Couldn't move by the 3rd week of Aug. Pain meds, stretching, heat, you name it I tried it and improved. Sept 3, I went to walk. Had to stop at a mile. Sept 9, I walked two miles. 36 hours later, my back f... Read more
Breathe in, breathe out, move on.
Jimmy Buffett’s words describing the Gulf’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina. “If a hurricane doesn’t leave you dead, it will make you strong. Don’t try to explain it, just bow your head, breathe in, breathe out, move on.” No, I’m not talking abo... Read more
Waiting out the storm
I messed up my back almost a month ago. Stretched it out, kept going as it loosened up. Heating pad, ice, ibuprofen. Restored our house following foundation repair, ran a mile, painted a couple of rooms. The pain came back every few days, lasti... Read more
Just run for 5 minutes...
Please see the humor in this: Bless me father, for it has been 3 weeks since my last triathlon. That's the traditional way to start a Catholic confession. I was out of town for 10 of those 21 days. I haven't been vigorously working out, getting... Read more
Vacation ending, projects at home
Last Wed, my family and I returned home to a "repaired" home, which meant drying concrete in the holes to fix the foundation, dirt and some clay embedded into the concrete floors, dust on EVERYTHING. I am not a neat freak by any stretch of the i... Read more
Czech Wellies & an active few days
Watching opening ceremonies for Olympics. I've enjoyed the humor: Mr. Bean with Chariots of Fire, James bond bringing in the Queen. I've thought of my family. My sisters drooling over Mark Spitz as their children, and children's children watch P... Read more
Choices in my face
I am about to be kicked out of my house for 10-14 days while the interior foundation gets leveled in my concrete slab home, thank you Texas' drought last summer. Just about every item in the house needs to be moved to secure, minimum dust enviro... Read more
2 miles post tri & Ode to Body Glide
Body Glide is a stick, like solid deodorant, that you rub on body areas that rub, chafe, blister. The ingredients let skin, well, glide, with less friction.

I dropped the shampoo in the shower
Quickly and easily bent over to the side to pick it up. And realized that I couldn't have done that so easily a year ago. Non scale victory. When I finished my tri on Sunday, a person asked if she could have my timing chip back. I started to ben... Read more
Can you be fat and still fit? My first sprint triathlon
7AM sunday July 15, I started something I would have thought was impossible for me: a sprint triathlon. swim 400 yards, bike 12 miles, run 5K. I finished in 2 hours and 2 minutes.
Tri minus 6 days: can't believe I'm so nervous!
What happened to my feeling of power? My "I'm tough enough to get through this" perspective? I know I can do the physical feat of the events. It's all the people, the time crunch that are concerns. I feel completely vulnerable! Not gonna let it ... Read more
Big debate with 2 weeks to go before my first sprint triathlon: train hard up to, or scale back and if so, when? Monday I did all 3 events, distance at least what I'd be seeing on race day 7.15. Tues: rest! And took the kids to see "big city" fi... Read more
