Things I want to do
1. I want to recover fully from Bell's palsy.
2. I want to get back to my favorite low-impact aerobics class!
3. I want to organize a fun excursion with my kids. Even teenagers can have fun, can't they?

Patience is a virtue.
I've joined a challenge that requires us to make one blog or journal entry a day so here I am. I've had the opportunity this past month to learn how true it is that patience is a virtue. I'm not an impatient person, but dealing with Bell's palsy... Read more
"Somehow" I managed to get 47% of my calories yesterday from FAT! That was such an unwelcome discovery. Part of the problem was the brownies that I allowed myself yesterday, but that was only part of the problem. The cheese didn't help. Nor did ... Read more
Feeling better...and grateful for it!
As my face gradually starts to thaw after a bout with Bell's palsy, I realize how much I take for granted every day. What a miracle it is just to be able to sleep on both sides, for example, or close both eyelids at will or pronounce the letter ... Read more
FitMary takes a dive...
I was doing very well until a tiny little virus struck and I contracted Bell's palsy on the right side of my face. I didn't think I needed a lesson in how precious and fragile life is, but I certainly got one! Last week was a challenge with the ... Read more
Okay, I made it.
I made it through a day with no candy, cookies, chocolate....
It feels good. I actually feel leaner. Following a Sparkler's advice (thank you!), I've been visualizing myself turning away from them.
Hope that works for Day 2!

My goal for the day!
Okay, my goal for the day is to stay away from all cookies, cakes, brownies, muffins, candy, chocolate....

Wow, what a work out!
I dragged myself to Latin Rhythms, a "Zumba"-like aerobics class this morning. What a work out that was! I'm still flushed 8 hours later... It was great fun, even though there were near misses and almost falls in the packed classroom. At one poi... Read more
For years I've heard about people who "missed" their exercise and "had to" exercise every day or they "just didn't feel right." That NEVER made sense to me. Then, "suddenly," today, after nine years of off-and-on exercising and repeated attempts... Read more
Finally tried those Boot Camp videos!
I finally got myself to do a few of the Boot Camp videos. I'm amazed at how quickly 10 minutes pass. And you can get a surprisingly good little workout done in just 10 minutes. I'm going to do at least one today. (And every other day for the res... Read more
Okay, I'll try again.
I overdid it yesterday in aerobics, and so today I'm a bit sore. I also have a lot of work to do so the temptation to skip my workout is huge. But I know that I'll feel better if I do at least a little bit so I'm going to do a warmup, then the b... Read more
Practice makes perfect?
I've belonged to a gym for over three years now, and I've been at my current gym for just over a year. I love the new place, which is affiliated with a hospital. I've become much more active as a result of going to the new gym. I especially love... Read more

Starting slow works....eventually.
One of the most important messages I have learned from SparkPeople is to start slowly. I've made the mistake of trying to do too much too soon before. The inevitable result was BURNOUT. Now I've figured out that it pays to start slowly and add a... Read more
