Beautiful Day to Run.
We'll be in New Hamp;shire until Friday, when we will then head south to visit family in Connecticut.
Meanwhile, we are enjoying the brisk (read cold) NH weather mornings. There's a beautiful walking/running path right nearby, which we'v... Read more
Traveling north to New Hampshire.
We are taking our time getting up to New Hampshire, as usual. We like to take time and enjoy the trip.
Wifi is not often available, because I prefer the National Parks, or places which do not offer hookups.
Here, we are in Georgia at... Read more
DW Chris finishes first 5K
This was a very small race held at Moss Park, Orlando, FL. We stayed overnight in our RV camper before the race. Here is a visitor to our campsite.
We were the first p... Read more
Weight gain not always a negative?
So to the point, I have this old bathroom scale, not a digital, the floating needle kind. Hard to notice small fluctuations. My usual weight is around 150-151. For many months, and before I started running. 150-151.
A few days ago, I ju... Read more
Registered for my first Marathon.
Finally bit the bullet and registered for a full Marathon. It will be the Rock N Roll Savannah Marathon in November of this year. I like the idea of a large event for a first timer. I may even use a pace group to help me out. Being such a huge e... Read more
Remember to refuel on long runs!
Got our race packets last night and gotta admit, we were like little kids, pinning DWs first number on her new running shirt. She'd had about a month of training and was ready to run. Well ready to finish anyway.
I think we were more excit... Read more
Not feeling so great today.
Had a wonderful time with the grandkids last Tuesday and Wednesday. They both were entered in a GNCC motorcycle race. My oldest DGS had problems with the bike and was unable to finish!
HM number 2 was easier.
Had some second thoughts as I typed my title, 'cuz these thing aren't easy at all. Like everything else in life, it's all relative. So, it was easier than HM1, but I still felt the pain and exhaustion. If I didn't have my trusty Timex Ironman wa... Read more
My old guy training coming along fine.
I have discovered much of the information available to us runners does not apply to older runners. The schedules, race time predictors are skewed for younger runners. Perhaps the small number of runners over the age of 60 makes us such a small s... Read more
Trust your training.
Finished the Wekiwa Springs Real Florida 10K race this morning.
A few things suggested that I not pursue a PR on this race. Too soon after my first half marathon, and another - my back was a bit sore AGAIN this morning. I took it easy trai... Read more
DW showing interest in running.
We did a 20 minute walk/run yesterday. The very first step in the Couch to 5K (C25K) program. DW is actually in very good shape, but lacks confidence due to having an MI a few years ago. Cardiologist says she will do fine, as long as she keeps i... Read more
Taking it easy.
Not really enjoying the post HM rest period. But, I am using this time to do a bit more strenuous weight lifting. When preparing for a race, I don't hit the weights very hard, so this is a good time to work out the upper body a little more vigor... Read more
I'm a Half Marathoner
It rained all night, so it was difficult sleeping. Woke up at
6AM had oatmeal w/raisins and water for breakfast. Unhooked
the camper and headed to the race at 6:30, arrived plenty
early to get my packet and instructions.
Big Day Tomorrow
I think I'm as ready as I'm going to be. Loaded up on carbs yesterday, and will go a bit lighter today but still take in plenty of carbs - drink lots of water and do my stretching and just take it easy.
I'm a little concerned about fading... Read more
New PR for 5K = Bling and a hug!
Did a 5K this morning. My lower back has been sore lately so I was a bit worried about how I would do. Didn't seem to matter much, 'cuz I made a PR with a time of 26:47 and placed 2nd in my age group.
