Need Canoe! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5862629 Started out my morning with my favorite activity, working out, decided to push on the elliptical with intervals. Was 40 minutes along when*SNAP*!! I just about fell off! Tentatively carried on, it hadn't seem to have affected my elliptical and I could see no parts lying around and there were no grinding or clanking sounds so I finished 28.1 km in 60 minutes!
I had to go out to pick up a prescription and go to the club to set up my game for tomorrow. I was expecting it to be ... Mon, 26 Jan 2015 00:46:25 EST Workout Work-A-Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5861789 It was time I started organizing in ernest the transfer of materials to the new club manager. I had accumulated a lot of outdated material and am ready to take my second lot of papers to the recycle bin. To make sure I was not sitting on my posterior all day sorting it out, I worked out at periodic intervals. I am up to 170 minutes and its only 7 pm. Once I start a project, its hard to stop.
The stale smoke coming in is bothering me, and I would love to get outside and go for... Sat, 24 Jan 2015 19:53:16 EST I Am Free! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5860558 Its official. February 1st there is a new club manager to take over my position! I have to fully train him first of course, before he can actually take over. He was a past president of our club and a wonderful man, very well liked, a perfect replacement!
I had a day off, so I decided on this warm, sunny day to go see a movie. I enjoyed my walk in the sunshine there, but the puddles of water and slush not so much. It took me 25 minutes of fast walking. I thoroughly enjoyed th... Thu, 22 Jan 2015 21:17:47 EST Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5859667 I started off my morning with my favorite routine, exercise. I enjoyed a low impact 35 min DVD, then switched to online videos. I discovered a chair cardio and did that for 25 minutes -it was actually a good workout, using a towel held firmly in your hands with your arms apart to boost the workout, and it was really a good challenge on the abs to keep up with the arm and leg movements, actually harder to do sitting then it would have been standing. Then I did a 40 minute high impact cardio... Wed, 21 Jan 2015 16:26:20 EST 190 Fitness Minutes! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5858396 Ran an easy game, came home and napped for an hour, then started working out. I had some niggling little injuries, so stuck with low impact workouts. This meant I could handle more of them, and Jessica Smith makes them all fun and interesting. I really like her workouts! She is an engaging energetic individual and has a secret weapon Peanut, the French bulldog. She has a variety of ideas and makes them challenging to keep the heart rate up in spite of them being low impact. She works ou... Tue, 20 Jan 2015 00:58:24 EST Whew! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5856624 I started off the morning doing a 60 minute Zumba DVD, followed by a 50 minute Boxercise (with weights) and then showered. I managed to cut and file both my toe nails and fingernails! So now I was ready to shop for groceries! Costco here I come! Stepdad had to get gas so he dropped Mom and I off so we could get started. It was hugely busy so we took our time. Angus wanted food and he had to wait in a long line up so we went all around again. We spent an hour and a half there and my wal... Sat, 17 Jan 2015 19:09:47 EST Three Appointments http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5855474 First up was the spinal surgeon. He did a thorough head to neck examination, then sent me for X-Rays. He concluded the changes in my spine are similar to the changes that the RA made in my hands. People with RA tend to get these spinal changes more often. He does want to send me for a MRI. I am not so sure I can and he said the metal implants in bone wouldn't be bothered. but I am thinking what about my arm? The strips holding the bone graft in place are around the outside of the bone ... Fri, 16 Jan 2015 00:53:19 EST Addendum to Yesterday's Blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5854283 I was bullied in elementary school for being different, a gimp, ugly, the usual, but I did have one friend who I hung around with throughout my years. But one day she invited me over and when I got there the guys who bullied me were hiding behind her couch. I immediately left and they followed me home, teasing, taunting, pushing me around and spitting at me. My friend walked along behind chatting and laughing with the school's most popular girl. Needless to say, I didn't have any friends... Wed, 14 Jan 2015 11:58:46 EST So Incredibly Sad http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5853706 I was playing with my bridge mentor Barb today. 21 years ago I came into the club not having a clue about bridge. After taking the lessons, the very first game I played in was one she was running. I had no partner so she played with me. She saw some kind of potential in me. So began a wonderful partnership. When I wanted to play in the open games, there were naysayers who said I was too new and would get turned off, but she stood by me and we showed them all. Gradually, she would teac... Tue, 13 Jan 2015 17:34:24 EST I Did It! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5852570 I put in my request for a transfer to a new apartment building downtown. I specifically asked for a south facing suite and requested all linoleum flooring for ease of movement and cleaning. I said I would wait for these conditions to be met. So I have no idea how long it will take. My Mom was surprised that I would be willing to leave the bridge club behind. But the fact of the matter is my only two partners are very elderly, one being quite frail and the other close to age 90. When t... Mon, 12 Jan 2015 10:36:13 EST Better Ball Day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5851480 Tried my hardest to sleep in. Ended up 6 hrs 42 min with an 11 min wake up with 7 restless times totaling 19 minutes. Really just made me overly tired and groggy and had a hard time getting it going. Ended up having breakfast late, then found some online videos totaling 60 minutes to do, one being cardio low impact and a dance inspired one.
Then I got down to work, updating some club work at home, then walking to the club to do some updating there. Also did a little cleaning ... Sun, 11 Jan 2015 00:26:49 EST Now This is Cold!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5850046 The big story around here is how cold its been. Currently its -24 C, but feels like -34 C (-11 F, feels like -29 F) The cold wouldn't really be that bad, but its the non stop wind on the flat prairies that makes it dangerous :-( So my outdoor walking has been confined to trips back and forth to the bridge club -a round trip taking 30 minutes. No exercise classes because its just too cold to walk to them. The last time I tried my knees just about froze in spite of wearing wind pants. For... Fri, 9 Jan 2015 07:04:26 EST Nice News! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5848866 I got a letter stating Safeway was giving me 1000 air miles for being a good customer!
My mentor and I came first in a tough bridge game of 15 tables. Wed, 7 Jan 2015 18:44:10 EST New Fridge & Phone Call From Doctor http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5846079 I had another relaxing visit with my sister and niece. Another feast of turkey, curried bean quinoa, sweet potato baked fries, too much again. Spencer plated another dessert -a pineapple ring covered with a sauce she cooked on the stove using rum and spices and then topped of with a small amount of ice cream, very nice. The other dessert was a merangue ring for those not knowing what pavlova is. After lunch we all soaked up the sun streaming in the floor to ceiling windows and read. Then... Sun, 4 Jan 2015 21:33:33 EST Dinner And A Movie http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5845230 My sister and her daughter were in town and spent the day shopping for shoes. I met up with them at Mom's, in time for a nice turkey dinner with all the trimmings, then Spencer presented her dessert, a pavlova, nicely made and topped with kiwi, blackberry and raspberry with a small amount of ice cream and a sauce, all beautifully presented of course.
We then went to see a movie John Wick. It had been a while since I had seen Keanu Reeves in a movie. It was a movie about an assas... Sat, 3 Jan 2015 23:30:00 EST New Year -Not A Great Start! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5843984 It turned out there was a bridge game on New Year's Day after all. Seven full tables. I played with my old friend, one of the club's worst players and we came predictably last, with a 38% game. People brought snacks and someone brought an incredible selection of home made goodies. I did overindulge and had a brownie and a few slices of lemon poppy seed cake as well as a little cupcake which I thought was chocolate, but turned out to be a cream cheese mini muffin with chocolate icing on to... Then another one. Then it spread like wildfire. In three months I went from lifting 50 lb bales of leather and taking zen karate six days a week to being bedridden and admitted to hospital. My rheumatoid arthritis had returned with a vengeance. Affected joints: shoulders, elbows, knees, hips, feet and hands. Not much left to work with, I wrenched my back struggling to get out of bed. He did do the very best he could, but working with finicky nerves, tendons and tissues, things can go wrong and did. My right thumb does not work properly. The physiotherapist pointed out how the muscle there was atrophied. This would explain the numbness on the arm. Apparently the nerves that had ...
