Tue, 11 Sep 2012 01:31:36 EST Skin Cancer Surgery Results and Not Your Mother's Warning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4905048

So I got all 8 stitches out yesterday and some very good news!!! The surgery removed all the skin cancer!! YIPPEE!! I am done with this chapter of my life. I have the go ahead to get back to working out but my knee still does not have the bend in it I would like so I am going to rest for a few more days. Not to worry tho, when I feel the knee is ready I will slowly get back into the hard pace I used to have before s... Wed, 30 May 2012 22:38:28 EST Too much time on my hands while I recover!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4884604 Surgery is never fun but in this case, I will gladly take it since that is all I have to suffer (thanks to finding the melanoma at Stage 2!) And thanks to a new app my son recommended, recovery from skin cancer surgery is a lot more fun! BTW, I've nicknamed this video "No wonder my knee hurts so much!!"

Remember, use your sunscreen and don't hesitate to see your dermatologist for skin cancer screenings!!! (The one that found the melanoma was my 2nd annual screening!!! You just know... Wed, 16 May 2012 18:34:14 EST Really in the Christmas mood now!! Awesome pics & video!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4612205 Almost a decade ago, hubby and I started an annual October tradition of going to Busch Gardens Williamsburg to celebrate Howl-O-Scream with friends of ours that live in the Norfolk area!! We ride the rides and then in the evening, go thru the haunted houses.

Last night, we may have added another annual tradition; going to Busch Gardens Williamsburg Christmas Town!! It was such a juxtaposition to walk thru areas that only several weeks ago held ghoulish characters ready to scare th... Sun, 4 Dec 2011 18:59:50 EST A new chapter in my life started this afternoon!! Looking forward with happy, anxious eyes!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4055327 In the spirit of how I would not hesitate to blog about what stress my son had caused me with his drug addled behavior, I am posting this blog.

However, today is different. The last time you heard about my son he had been busted for marijuana and felony possession of a Class II drug. The DA offered my son a plea deal. My son could go to what is called drug court (takes at least 12 months to finish!!) and when he graduated, his record would be wiped clean and he would be allowed to... I am so ready for things to settle back down into my normal routine!!

So here is a quick wrap up of these past few weeks:

First, I am recovering well from the surgery on Jan. 3rd to remove that lump on my left side lymph gland. Being a cancer survivor, I do not tolerate stuff that does not belong! The biopsy came back benign and now I just have to recover from getting the muscles cut across 3" of my neck (17 stitches!!) ... Fri, 4 Feb 2011 19:41:47 EST OK folks I need personal testimonials for scar healing treatments http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3925965 On Wednesday I got the 11 stitches out from the scar on my neck where the surgeon took out the gumball-sized lump on my lymph node. The pathology report has already come back and the lump was benign and was mostly chronic inflammation.

So now I have a 3 inch scar on my neck. My dear SIL and the surgeon both suggested using Mederma to help the scar heal and to look less noticeable. I looked up Mederma on Drugstore.com and saw that it was generally well reviewed but one reviewer did ... Fri, 14 Jan 2011 21:01:15 EST Carpe Anno, or does that fish come grilled? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3872191 I usually say carpe diem which is Latin for "seize the day". But as we approach the beginning of a new year, I am going to temporarily revise my saying to "seize the year".

I am one of those folks that do not need a starter's gun to take off and hit the race. If I need to do something today, I do it today.

But what if I wanted a celebratory moment to start something REALLY big. Then hey, we are all going to have that punctuated moment very soon!!

So if ther... Thu, 16 Dec 2010 21:55:43 EST Just curious--how do you crack a rib and not know it??? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3823973 Earlier this week, my poor brother in law (referred to as BIL from here on) spent the night in the hospital with pain in his chest area. The ER ran a battery of tests and pictures. Almost 24 hours later, the diagnosis came back from a CT scan. He had a hairline fracture of one of his ribs. Crazy thing is, he has no idea how that happened.

I do know in the weeks leading up to his excitement at the ER, he had been complaining of his side hurting when he and my hubby played golf toget... Sat, 4 Dec 2010 17:20:28 EST Enjoying your Blessings!!!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3804282 Let me start by saying that I think Thanksgiving is one of those celebrations that transcends religion and culture!! It is a day to stop and give thanks! I work in an office with 2 ladies that are Buddhists and yet they are celebrating Thanksgiving. So cool -- I actually shared a southern style recipe with one of the ladies!! I think it is beautiful that we can enjoy a day as a nation and give thanks for our blessings, no matter who we pray to.

So enjoy your day tomorrow. I hope yo... Just a quick reminder to either enter your Dannon yogurt lid codes or mail in your Yoplait yogurt lids. Lesson learned!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3749054 Yesterday was DS's 20th birthday. We had not planned on going out or giving him anything other than a $10 gift card. (DS is such a sweetie -- he didn't want the gift card, either!!) And since he is well aware of hunny's being unemployed, DS was perfectly fine with the plans. But then my sweet MIL came to the rescue and offered to pick up the tab!! So off we went to DS's favorite restaurant, Longhorns.

No appetizers as we were trying to be careful with MIL's wallet. For dinner, DS o... Fri, 29 Oct 2010 18:52:47 EST Update on DS and his baptism http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3735335 Some of my Spark friends have noticed a serious news blackout on my son. Last most people heard was back in February when he had been charged with felony drug possession and told he could serve a minimum 6 months in jail or go to county drug court. This involves a very intense 12 to 18 month program of several times a week urine screens, weekly appearances before a circuit court judge to review his file, mandatory 30 hours work or community service to total 30 hours, 2 to 3 classes a week, we... I have several different kinds of workouts that I have downloaded and copied to my phone. They range from 10 minutes to 1 hour. I have yoga, pilates, stability ball, and several that mix it a... I just had no clue I would be running so hard and so much!!!

But in spite of my life have been taken over by my job, I still want to get to my goal weight. For various reasons, my weight loss has stalled. I totally understand the circumstances behind my lack of progress and have not beaten myself up at all over what has happened. Have to rethink my lower my cholesterol plan!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3558086 This afternoon I got the results of my latest bloodtest. I have not met with the doctor yet; that is scheduled for next week. But the nurse did call and tell me the results.

I have been doing pretty good with my workouts (mind you, I did stop for a while after I got back from vacation because I was sooooooo sore from that stupid biopsy on that lump on my lymph node). And most days, I keep my daily cholesterol intake under 200 and avoid most fats, especially saturated and trans fats... Fri, 20 Aug 2010 18:49:18 EST Well, ……. How was your mini-vacation to Cedar Point? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3510714 Here's a little known fact about xhastedmomof2; shes a bit of an adrenaline junkie. When I go to amusement parks, I joke that the only rides I get on are the ones that have people throwing up after they get off!! So after years of pushing to take a break from always going to the beach or Orlando (sorry Mickey), I finally got my wish! A vacation in Cedar Point outside Sandusky, Ohio. We are going to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. We will be back early next week. He has always been one of those kids who knew what he wanted and he worked for it. So after he got his BS, he moved on to whatever the next step is to becoming an orthopedic surgeon and graduated a few weeks before his wedding as a medical doctor. So I am sure the break after his wedding was more than well-de... I wanted to first share with you all my Father's Day gift that I made for my father.

I thought of this idea years ago, back when I first began scanning old photographs. I came across a picture taken of me and my dad on the day I graduated from college (ahem, back in 1981). As I was scanning the picture, it dawned on me that in a few short ye... How strange!!!

Twice now I have recently turned up my nose at dessert when eating out, even at restaurants that I know have scrumptious desserts!! I was content with my low calorie meal that I had just enjoyed. A year ago, I would have caved. I make it a life choice that I do not beat up myself for bad ... Thu, 10 Jun 2010 22:56:45 EST Having fun scanning my old photo albums!! And reliving old memories! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3304611 Back before my basement got sunk in the mud I talk about on my Sparkpage, I had started scanning old photographs and slides. It started with the desire to save my old photographs from continuing to succumb to the effects of aging. (I guess growing old is hard on everybody and everything!!) The colors are fading or in some instances, there are parts of pictures completely missing. I scour my father's garage and return with hundreds of slides, armfuls of albums, along with going thru my persona... In my 51 years of life, I have seen glimpses of what life can be like under a Communist regime.

My parents were born in Hungary and each had an unremarkable childhood. That all ended when the Nazis invaded. I have heard a few stories about what my mother's life was like under the Nazi occupation; thankfully nothing too scary. More impressive is the story my father told me when he dodg... I am just a 51 year old working mother who is trying to lose weight doing low impact workouts because I am acutely aware of my physical limitations! I know that I have very bad knees as a result of all that gymnastics practice and competition in my younger days along with I am certain a certain amount of inherited issues as well. So my workouts generally follow the l... The plan was to hang out and take care of any last minute details on Friday so that Saturday would be as stress free as possible. And there were some details to take care of: picking up the cake for the party, paying for the small banquet room at the Marriott that we had reserved, and catching up with family as they arrived. We had de... Wed, 12 May 2010 18:34:09 EST A week from today, my sweetie will be a college grad!! How cool is that!?! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3182697 A few days ago, my status update was about my daughter who will be missing out on being able to graduate with honors by a pitiful .04 in her Communications major GPA!! Sadly, not here at Sparks!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3159437 Let me start off by saying I am exhausted to the bone. I put in 70 hours last week and it was only my third week on the new job!! I knew they had a backlog when I started but I had no idea it was this bad!! The good news is that the big push is waning. Mind you, not done! Just slowing down. I put in 15 hours last weekend and then another 55 during the week, including 12 hour days on Thursday and then on Friday!!

I would come home from my long day at work, try to do my workout (if ... Sun, 25 Apr 2010 17:54:30 EST First week on new job went rather well! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3104485 It was very strange last Monday morning getting ready for work. After 20 years with the old company, I was embarking on a new adventure with a different company. I had bought some new clothes to wear and started off with one of my new outfits. That was good because they took a picture of me for my new badge.

Otherwise, the people I am working with are very welcoming and very sweet! Thankfully, my first day did not include lunch out and that was a nice break from all the eating out ... Having been with the old company for 20 years, a lot of people wanted to say goodbye. As a result, these past two weeks I feel like I have eaten out more than the entire 20 years I worked there!!

Most of the time, I was able to choose a restaurant after researching it on the web. This worked out great a... Sat, 3 Apr 2010 21:13:16 EST Update on 25th Anniversary dinner and my job hunt. It's all good!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3043284 Our 25th Anniversary dinner on Tuesday night was incredible!! Hunny and I had been asking our friends and coworkers to recommend a place worthy of our 25th anniversary. The winner was hunny's boss with her recommendation of "Restaurant Eve" and it was most definitely amazing. We went with the 9 course dinner and the wine pairing where for each course, they bring you a 2 ounce glass of wine that complemented the food. For the 9 courses, the food and the wine were from around the world – we ... Thu, 4 Mar 2010 20:58:01 EST Interview outfit shopping was so demoralizing!! And I don’t even have an interview yet!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2935376 OK, first things first! On Tuesday I went to the orthopedic surgeon with the tendinitis in my right shoulder in full bloom. This was my second time seeing him for my shoulder as I went to see him for the same problem almost 2 years ago. After examining the shoulder, he gave me the shot of cortisone and a referral for physical therapy. Several days later, I am still sore. It’s too soon to tell if the cortisone injection worked. But I plan to do a "Walk Away the Pounds" DVD later today and that... My pants legs now scrape the carpet when I walk!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2899583 At work, I alternate wearing and laundering these 2 pairs of size 16 petite pants. (I only own 2 in this size as a constant reminder that my 10’s and 8’s are ever so patiently waiting for me to get back to them!!) I have been wearing these 2 slacks forever along with my orthopedic-looking MBT shoes!! These shoes are the best for my severely annoying feet and I never go anywhere without them. However, I recently have noticed that when I walk, there is the distinct sound of fabric scraping alon... Thu, 18 Feb 2010 21:31:02 EST Positive self-talk: one of the hardest things I have learned to do http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2858256 On the Challenge of Harry Potter team, one of the challenges this week is to find an article on SP about motivation that speaks to your particular issues. The article I immediately gravitated towards was one titled “Positive Self-Talk Leads to Success”. I am sure the thought that a Sparkpeople motivator has had to learn positive self-talk is an odd concept but it really has been one of the hardest things for me to learn (or unlearn, depending on your perspective!) When my children were little... Mon, 8 Feb 2010 20:21:28 EST Why women over 50 rock!! That being said, I rolled in laughter when I saw this email my friend sent me and I just knew I had to s... Thu, 4 Feb 2010 17:56:04 EST And now there are 2 on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2801446 It all started with a heart breaking text this morning. My daughter’s great dane was at the vet because he had not eaten or drank anything for over a day. My daughter and her BF are so very concerned about that horrid bloat that danes get that they stayed on top of all the things you should do to minimize the possibility of this tragic stomach twisting happening. Throughout the day, I kept getting updates and texting back that she, her BF, and the dog were in my thoughts and prayers for a hap... Tue, 26 Jan 2010 20:28:58 EST Have you ever forced yourself to work out and then were pleased with yourself afterward? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2779722 OK, stupid rhetorical opening question but that was totally me this evening!! I was totally distracted with events swirling about and so much weighing heavy on my mind. But I eventually forced myself do a short work out which got more added to it and before I realized what had happened, I had done a pretty decent work out!!

So here in a stream of conscious is a short snippet of what was swirling: daughter’s laptop needs $400 for external hard drive and Geek Squad to fix irksome vir...
