WINTEROAK's SparkPeople Blog WINTEROAK's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Starting Over 2 years ago I joined spark people, signed up for my 1st 5k, and started training. I lost a total of 65 pounds. I felt amazing! But then I finished my 5k, my husband got a new job, I stopped going on spark people, and life and stress got the better of me. I've gained back 35 pounds. So, here I am again. My plan is to sign up for another 5k. And when that is done signing up for another. Then eventually working my way up to a 10k and a half marathon. This was my original goal. I remember how hea... Wed, 13 Jan 2016 13:09:15 EST Finished my 1st 5k! Last Sunday I competed in my 1st 5k race. It took place in Santa Cruz and was an all women's race with 5,000 women competing. The race took place right next to the ocean and was beautiful! The first mile was slow going because I was in the last group which was mostly walkers so I had to wait for breaks in the crowd to try to sprint around. For a while there we were packed like sardines on the road. After that 1st mile I kept a pretty good pace and there was this 1 amazing sprint I did that fe... Fri, 28 Mar 2014 16:11:58 EST How my First Month Has Gone So, I've been training for a 5k which is on March 23rd. I started Jan. 25. Training has been rough because I've been so out of shape. But I've been doing good all things considered. We don't have a lot of money so I had to start off with some $20 running shoes from Big 5. Which, of course have given me really no support at all but I've made do. We got our tax return done just recently though so I bought a pair of mid range running shoes today. Just walking in them around the store I could rea... Mon, 24 Feb 2014 23:13:50 EST Running on Valentine's Last week I wasn't able to do my long run for my first week of training. (Technically second week, but the first week was walking only) The weather was horrible and my poor baby boy was sick. He had roseola and had been fighting a high fever for a few days. But as soon as Monday came I stuck to this week's training and yesterday on Valentine's I ran/walked 6.4 Miles. It was really really tough and my time was horrible but considering it was my first long run I was proud of myself regardless. ... Sat, 15 Feb 2014 12:30:39 EST Watched a Half Marathon Yesterday Yesterday I got to be a spectator at a local half marathon. I haven't been to a running event since I was a kid. We first watched from our driveway and cheered on the runners going by. Then we drove down the hill and watched from the finish line. It was very exciting and hugely motivational! I knew one of the runners so I got to cheer her on. I had originally considered joining this race but I had only found out about it 3 weeks before hand. So, that wasn't nearly enough time to train. But it... Mon, 10 Feb 2014 11:30:05 EST Beginning to Run Yesterday was my first day of my running/walking training. Last week I was doing my all walking training working my way up to this. I'm not going to lie, yesterday was tough. But I did way better than I thought I would. My husband said he was amazed at how well I did. We went to the local playground/park. He and my son played while I did laps around the park. The biggest problem I had was my calves. I'm really good about stretching after I warm up and after my workouts. But all last week and ... Tue, 4 Feb 2014 14:34:42 EST First 5K I'm super excited! I registered for my first 5k race in March. It will be an all women's race, which for me seems a little less intimidating for my first go. I started training last week and can't wait to work my way up to becoming a runner. Mon, 27 Jan 2014 00:27:09 EST
