WINDEE52's SparkPeople Blog WINDEE52's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Ok, new plan. I can't explain how good I feel now that I'm on a correct dosage of my thyroid meds! Before going on them I was soooo tired all the time. Not just tired, more like go-to-bed-at-9pm-wake-up-at-7am-and-still-
feel-exhausted tired. One day I almost fell asleep at the wheel at 3 in the afternoon. Getting my workouts done was torture some days. I just went through the motions. So now that I'm feeling better, I can push myself harder. My workouts have been awesome these last few weeks! M... Tue, 3 Jul 2012 08:30:10 EST Going the extra mile. I need to do it. I need to put in the extra effort in my workouts and in my diet. I can't justify slacking. I have hypothyroidism and it requires me to be extra diligent - especially until I'm on the correct dosage of medication. I can't just have a bite here and there anymore. I REALLY need to scale back on the beer. I've been doing all the same workouts and eating all the same foods for the last month and I'm gaining. So here it is - in writing - I will go the extra mile. Starting t... Mon, 21 May 2012 13:34:21 EST Kitchen tools. I really think cooking is way more fun when you have the right tools. I recently spent a measly $5 for a julienne peeler and let me tell you - THAT THING IS FUN!

I seriously threw my dinner together in about 5 minutes tonight and I am totally making it again tomorrow! No picture, I wasn't sure how it would come out to be honest. It was delish but kinda ugly. So anyway if you are in need of a super quick, low carb recipe here ya go!

1 Medium Zucchini - julienned (I g... Tue, 8 May 2012 18:53:28 EST So far so good! (food pics) A couple of weeks ago I posted that my husband and I made an agreement. I would be his Jenny Craig and he wouldn't buy any more fast food. Like, AT ALL. EVER. I found a really great website where I steal a lot of recipes from (

So far he's down 10 lbs and he gets things like:

Cilantro Lime Shrimp

Fiesta Black Beans
<img src=" Mon, 7 May 2012 12:42:08 EST MOM VICTORY (food pics) It's funny how my kids (husband included) whine and piss and moan when I make certain meals like, oh I don't know - meatloaf and sweet potatoes for example. He's been difficult to say the least, but something with him clicked last week. He read an article about the link between 3rd shift workers and diabetes. His Dad has diabetes (controlled with a healthy diet) and he was a fire fighter for 35 years, working nights also. I think those two things and the fact that he turned 37 yesterday was the catalyst he needed.

So we made a deal. I am basically his Jenny ... Sat, 21 Apr 2012 12:04:10 EST Could use some advice on a *ahem* private issue...... This could be TMI. Seriously, you've been warned.

Last night's workout didn't go quite as I had planned. I had a very ambitious HIIT workout for the treadmill in my pocket (to be followed by legs and back). But my GI tract had other plans... I have a serious problem digesting proteins. Does anyone else have this issue!? So needless to say, I didn't do the HIIT and barely managed to finish a 2 mile jog without completely embarrassing myself!
I am absolutely positive th... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 06:51:41 EST I ♥ circuits.
Today I did this:

Don't let the title fool you though. It took me 53 minutes (with stretching) and I burned about 400 calories. I did this exact workout last week and about it. Today though, oh man! After last night's workout (Summit climber, chest-back-leg circuit) this bad boy was HARD! I feel good and wiped out.

Now on to the mundane chores of the day. Later peeps! Thu, 29 Mar 2012 11:28:07 EST Hrumph. I'm a bit annoyed.

The last 3 weeks I've been diligent with my diet - no grazing, tracking, no picking at the kid's leftovers. I've also been working my ass off 6 days a week. In a standard week I kickbox, do Zumba, strength train, power-walk and do some sort of plyo/circuit training.

Yet I feel so blah. I feel like I'm not making any progress. I know that the scale is not an accurate measure of my progress, but it would be nice to see a lower number. I would a... Thu, 22 Mar 2012 06:38:25 EST Yeah, I'm, not really. I just bruise like a week old pear:

I worked out with one of the guys at kickboxing last night - and of course I was left with the worst pair of pads in the joint. Paper thin - at least that's what they felt like!

Anyway, I've been super good about not grazing and picking this last week and I've been kicking up the workouts with more HIIT, plyo and weight training (tomorrow is day 13 of the Fighter... Sat, 3 Mar 2012 18:52:59 EST Lets try this again... Ok, so due to a pulled muscle and illness, I had to pause the Fighter Pull-Up Program (if you're interested you can check it out here:
ournal_individual.asp?blog_id=4715742

Anyway, I plan to restart the program tomorrow from the beginning. I was thinking about picking up where I left off but I'm afraid of pulling a muscle again (I've been doing pull-ups randomly the last 2 weeks with a little soreness in my trap afterwards...).
<... Wed, 29 Feb 2012 09:01:44 EST Thank goodness THAT'S over. Seriously, the kids had pink-eye and we had the flu. Worst weekend EVER! I felt a lot better today so I got in a good workout and actually cooked!

Yuummmmmm.....
Anyway - everything is over at my other blog if you're interested!

Nite! Tue, 21 Feb 2012 19:50:08 EST The Big Reveal & More Pull-ups Lets start with the pull-ups (forgive me if I'm hard to follow, my little man is sick and got me up at 4am). I had to stop the pull-up program I was doing last week because I pulled a muscle in my neck/trap area. It radiated down to my shoulder blade, so I thought it best to let it heal. I'm doing a lot better the last 2 days, minimal pain, so yesterday I did 20 chin-ups/pull-ups in alternating reps of 4. No pain today, so maybe I can pick up where I left off on Day 9....

As ... Thu, 16 Feb 2012 07:48:13 EST The Fighter Pull-up Program - week 1 complete I finished week one of the program (see previous blog if you are curious) and so far it's not too bad. I accidentally skipped day 4 because I was so busy, but I made them up on the morning of day 5, then did day 5 pull-ups in the evening. I've been alternating pull-ups and chin-ups because I would like to do both with ease. I'm definitely better at chin-ups, maybe that has something to do with bicep strength? Anyway, today is a rest day from the program so I'm gonna bust out some Insanity... Tue, 7 Feb 2012 07:42:06 EST The Fighter Pull-up Program I posted a status about a week ago that my ability to do pull-ups and chin-ups has been in a steady decline. It's very true - if you don't use it you lose it. I would like to get back up to 10 conseutive pull-ups by March 1st and Brewmaster Bill was kind enough to send me a link for the Fighter Pull-up Program by Pavel. It looks like this (I will be starting at the lowest rep level of 3):

The 3RM Russian Pullup Program
Day 1 3, 2, 1, 1
Day 2 3, 2, 1, 1
Day 3 3, 2... Wed, 1 Feb 2012 06:38:22 EST Fast Food Mafia

/7
Thu, 5 Jan 2012 07:37:54 EST I'm determined to make this year better. With all the drama in my life last year and the passing of my Mom in October, I've struggled to eat properly and log everything daily. Now that things have settled down, I'm making a concentrated effort. I think I may have already said this a few months ago, but I lost it again over the holidays.

Ok, so the new plan (or, really, the same old plan) :

Daily tracking - alcohol + tons of water - refined sugars + lots of protein / 5 to 6 workouts wkly = :)

Now ... Tue, 3 Jan 2012 09:17:21 EST I definately did not enjoy Thanksgiving. Meaning I ate too much. I started off ok, turkey, butternut squash and salad on my plate. But then the Soda bread was passed around. I have a weak spot for doughy, crumbly bread. Then the alcohol (specifically the beer). At that point I was full, but did I stop? NO! - DAMN YOU CHOCOLATE PUMPKIN PIE!!

Ugh. 15

I have a feeling mine isn't the only story like this.

So whatevs, I'm shaking it off, moving on. Had a good 40 min interval session... Fri, 25 Nov 2011 10:23:18 EST I'm not writing this for sympathy. I don't post blogs, or status updates here or on FB for sympathy. It drives me bananas when I see people posting private things looking for attention. This post is more of a proclamation that I'm ready to resume the level of healthy living I was at before my Mom got sick.

My Mom passed away on October 30th at the hospital. Mid October she had a seizure from a brain bleed and the ER had to intabate her. This brought on the pneumonia that eventually took her 2 weeks later.
... Mon, 7 Nov 2011 05:54:44 EST Worried. I'm worried about my Mom. She was diagnosed with Stage 3B lung cancer back in February and it has been a difficult 6 months.

Radiation knocked her down pretty hard and she ended up living with me for a while so I could take care of her. Then her husband, who is an alcoholic, tried to commit suicide. (He's in therapy and just completed an outpatient program. He seems to be doing ok, but really, it's like a ticking time bomb.) In July, my Mom had her second bout of diverticuli... Tue, 6 Sep 2011 07:51:31 EST Because I know you wanted to know. Hiya folks! Everyone in the Northeast ready for the storm? Personally, I'm waffling between nervous and annoyed with it. I stocked up on some water, filled my gas tank and we have some cash on hand, but that's the extent of my preparations. I'm going to try to get my workout in early in case we lose power.....

Anywho.

So not to beat this whole Hypothyroidism thing to death BUT.....before I knew I had this, I just figured my daily fatigue was just part of my day. No ... Sat, 27 Aug 2011 07:16:39 EST And THAT'S why I don't go to the doctor. Well, almost never anyway. But they called and said I was overdue for a physical so I made the appointment and went.

Turns out my Rheumatoid arthritis factor is through the roof. From what i've read, I guess that means that eventually my antibodies will start attacking the tissues in my joints. Just great. I was told it's hereditary - so that makes sense. There isn't much I can do right now, as I'm not in pain. Although I know I should stop kickboxing- it's hell on the join... Tue, 23 Aug 2011 09:04:52 EST Winning! Yesterday was one of the best days I've had in a long time. Everything was just falling into place.
I finished a photo project that I've been working on for my BFF for the last 6 months (and she loves it) I got half of the pinwheels for my sister's wedding finished, another photo book that I've been meaning to get to, I had a gym date with a friend (and I'm pleasantly sore today), visited my Mom who was feeling good, took my kids to Zumba and managed to eat well all day!

But... Wed, 3 Aug 2011 07:17:50 EST Totally flippin random. Wow, it's been almost a month since my last blog.....guess I haven't had anything interesting to say. Which, I suppose, is a good thing.

In the past month, my Mom had to go in for emergency surgery for her diverticula which burst - that was scary as she's already weak from chemo. She's home and is taking it day by day.

My dad's legal issues have also come to an end. He wound up taking a continuance without a finding (not enough evidence to prove he was negligent) but ... Sun, 31 Jul 2011 10:06:51 EST Thought I was up, turns out I was down. I could have sworn I was up at least 5 pounds by the way I feel. Even though I've been exercising diligently as usual, I've indulged on carbs and alcohol too much these past 2 months.

My sister's beach wedding is in 3.5 weeks and I wanted to drop that weight so I wouldn't feel so crappy. To start things off on the right foot, I weighed myself this morning....

Huh...???? Down a pound.

Ok then. So why do I feel all soft and gooey?

Probably beca... Tue, 28 Jun 2011 08:08:30 EST Hey Sparkland! Yeah, I'm still here.... It's been over a month since I've done a blog. Mostly because I've been taking care of my Mom and I really haven't had the time or desire. Also, I didn't want to blog the depressing crap that's been hanging over her (and us). I'm trying to stay positive for her but it really does feel like 2 steps forward, 3 steps back.

I stopped tracking a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't tracking properly anyway and I was starting to resent this website a little. I mean, why can't I just eat th... Sat, 11 Jun 2011 08:31:40 EST [Snappy Blog Title Goes Here] So I haven't blogged here for a while because I really haven't been able to sit at the computer for any extended period of time. (I have posted a bit on my other blog
)

My Mom finished her radiation treatments last Thursday but has been staying with us since April 25th. With her husband working out of the area most days of the week, we just weren't comfortable with her being alone especially at night. The effects of radiation can app... I found out on Monday that a friend from kickboxing died in a motorcycle crash. I knew him solely through class and liked him a lot. He was actually very close with my BFF and her husband (who own the MMA school), so it was exceptionally hard on them. The wake was on Friday night and because he was a young, charming, wonderful person who happened to be a great athlete too, the turnout was epic. He was buried Saturday after a 4 hour serv... Mon, 18 Apr 2011 07:28:11 EST My 90 day Insanity/P90X hybrid program. The last 3 months I was doing my own hybrid version of these 2 workouts. Instead of the P90X Yoga and Plyo, I subbed in an Insanity video (along with my normal kickboxing class 2x a week). I haven't done the final fit test for P90X yet, but I did do the Insanity fit test.

These are my results (remember, I only did 2 videos a week for 12 weeks):

Exercise - 1 minute per move 1/1/2011 3/27/2011 Difference
Switch Kicks 110 /124 +14
Power J...
