I have completed 51 miles of the mid-state trail in Pennsylvania and the weight is coming off. The best thing about hiking is being in nature and not thinking about anything else. It is a real stress buster for me. Hiking is a lot harder than the treadmill mile for mile as I have to step around over and under rocks, trees and creeks. I highly recommend this way to stay fit mentally and physically. Thu, 31 Mar 2016 17:58:58 EST Broke past 200 Feels good to get back under 200lbs. I had really let myself go past all my high weight records. Got 24 miles of trail under my belt and adding a few more today. Hopefully, will be in good enough shape to do some trails in California in April. Sat, 20 Feb 2016 08:06:49 EST Cold thank goodness for the treadmill The wind is howling and the temps are in the teens. I am glad for a treadmill to keep my walking up. Been doing about 35 miles per week including my weekend outdoor hikes. I am down 9 lbs even though I have a long way to go it is nice to see some change. Thu, 11 Feb 2016 12:46:36 EST 7.5 mile trail I am very happy with my progress. No trouble doing this hike with pack in 3 hours. With 3 years left to train I feel I am getting there 1 step at a time. Fri, 29 Jan 2016 17:45:31 EST Training for the Appalachian Trail in 2020 I do best when I have a goal. My long term goal is to walk the Appalachian Trail when I retire in 2020. Short term I am hiking every trail in the forest one by one. I joined the local hike club to get me motivated. Starting slow and working up to some over night hike by the summer of 2016. Maybe I will see you on the trail. Mon, 4 Jan 2016 18:47:06 EST Hard to start over Shortly after my last blog entry in August of 2013 I got an upper respiratory infection that lasted two months. This set back along with getting a very sedentary job has put all the weight back on I worked so hard to lose. So I am again starting over. 39

It always seems it is much harder to lose weight than to gain it. Why does it come back so fast. The weather is now good so I have no excuses not to get back on track and lose the pounds again. 521 Thu, 24 Apr 2014 20:04:53 EST I Made it up the mountain! I ran 4 miles today. Two miles where a 7% grade a 1000 foot climb in the 2 miles. Granted I wasn't going fast, but I still count it as running. LOL. Running down was like resting. So I should have any trouble with a flat 4 miler race in October. Still need to lose more weight so it is easier on the knees, but that is bound to come with good food and increasing exercise. Wed, 7 Aug 2013 10:40:20 EST Running 2 miles I can't believe I am actually able to run two miles at a nice clip. I did 1 mile in 8 min 15 sec and was quite proud of myself. Never thought I would be able to run again after breaking my back five years ago. I seem to be a bit stuck on my weight loss lately, but it helps to concentrate on other goals with my fitness. Still doing Tae Chi and throwing some weight lifting in now and then to keep up my body strength. I have a goal of running a 4 mile trail race in October and that is starting... Tue, 23 Jul 2013 09:57:35 EST Lightly jogging for the first time in 5 years I have jogged 2 miles in the last two days sprinting the last 100 yards. I didn't think I would ever be able to jog again after breaking my back, but the combination of consistent walking and Tae Chi has made me light enough and strong enough to do some. I don't plan on any big running events just want to increase my lung capacity. Beautiful weather is spurring me on. And thanks to all the positive comments. Fri, 3 May 2013 08:43:54 EST Spring has sprung as the weight is dropping It seems I have broken my plateaus and got moving again. I will meet my first goal of 162 by my birthday in July if I can maintain my current weight loss rate. It seems bumping my calories up to about 1600 has got me moving. My previous calorie rate of 1300 was just to low for my activity level and my body reacted poorly. These all all high nutritional calories for the most part and I am very happy with the results. 224 Sat, 27 Apr 2013 13:53:00 EST Plateaus Suck
I have been frozen at 184 for the last month and it is very discouraging. Doing a cleanse today to reset my body. No exercise today as well to rest.
I have been staying within my guidelines with only one except and that is my fat levels are higher than I would like and my protein lower. With a vegan diet this is extremely hard to balance. I increased my workouts to add weightlifting this last month starting to wond... Sun, 17 Feb 2013 17:16:52 EST Blog problems For some reason I can only upload videos and not do regular blogs/ Does anyone else have this problem? Sat, 9 Feb 2013 14:54:31 EST Time to rest A day to recover Sometimes you just need a chance to chill out. Sun, 3 Feb 2013 10:19:24 EST Ice watching During my walk today. I got to enjoy the art work of our stream. Sat, 2 Feb 2013 18:12:53 EST 12 mile walk Creek sounds just a mile and a half to go. This walk through unplowed roads for 12 miles was a challenge for me. I have to say the last 2 miles were very difficult. Glad I did it because it shows me how far I have come. Setting difficult goals motivates me to get to where I can do it. Sun, 27 Jan 2013 19:16:34 EST 1 month Victory Today it is my 1 month anniversary without any kind of soda!!! I am drinking more water and exercising more. I have lost 10lbs, which is giving me the motivation I need to lose the other 40lbs. Tomorrow I am rewarding my self with a hike around the mountain 12 miles. I am packing lunch. Thu, 24 Jan 2013 22:20:14 EST Weight Training added to my walking Les Mils pump and burn I need to make sure and start to rebuild my muscle as well as losing weight. Thu, 17 Jan 2013 11:54:36 EST Feeling the pain...Moving to the gain Yesterday, I did Les Mils pump for first time in a long time and I am stiff. It seemed easy when I was doing it, but guess I am not in as good of shape as I thought. For now I am adding the weight lifting around 2-3 times a week in addition to my walking. I have been lucky this winter with walking as the weather has been mild here so far. It isn't as easy when it goes below zero and starts to sting the nose. Hope all of you have a great day and complete some goal you want to complete. Becaus... Mon, 14 Jan 2013 09:40:24 EST Finally starting to move After making a decision to get back into shape I have finally started to see some improvement losing 9 lbs makes me feel even more motivated to stay on track.
