As I mentioned in my last blog post, because my appendix was "oozing" it had to be treated as a rupture, so laproscopic surgery was not an option. I was opened up and had a drain for 4 days. I've had to completely change my routine. This experience has been incredibly humbling.

My surgery was on December 21st. All I've been able to do is walk. No strength training. No running. After a very painful couple of days being completely miserable and unable to keep anything down, I finally went in to urgent care. It didn't take long at all to determine that my appendix needed to come out and off to the OR I went. Unfortunately it was nearly ruptured (the surgeon told me it was "oozing" and one of the worst she'd seen) I had to be completely opened up; they had to wash me out and couldn't perform the surgery lapa... I've LOVED my Asics for the last 2 years, but as the style I love keeps climbing in price I've had a harder and harder time spending the money on them. My only concern was running and getting my mileage in.

A friend of mine printed out an article for me about the importance of cross training. I started to research a little further, and some pieces started falling into place for me: maybe the aches and pains I had been attributing to running long distances are actually because ... Thu, 5 May 2011 08:00:01 EST Only YOU have the power to change. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4205418 I came across a saying recently that really speaks to me: "She BELIEVED she could, so SHE DID."

Lately I've been hit with a barrage of comments both online and in real life related to my running.

"WOW, I wish I could run but my ______(knees, back, legs, etc) hurt when I do."

"I don't have the TIME to run."

"You're going to ruin your knees."

These seem to be the 3 that I get most often. To comment number 1--when I started running ... Mon, 2 May 2011 17:46:58 EST Easter won't stop me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4186221 Easter weekend is a weekend that could totally derail me. I'm not going to let it!

Today I stayed within my calorie range, got an hour in at the gym, and am planning to get a good amount of sleep!

I'm looking forward to putting together the kiddos' Easter Baskets and hiding the plastic eggs. It's so fun to watch their excitement.

Tomorrow we'll be with my in-laws for Easter. On the menu is Ham--a lean meat. I was asked to bring a salad. The key for me wil... Sun, 17 Apr 2011 14:44:12 EST A confession http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4164825 I have a small confession to make. I messed up.

My son had surgery on March 22nd. We lived in a hospital for 4 days. I had a hard time controlling my food and exercise was non-existent. I gained some weight. I didn't track my food.

We got home from the hospital and the exercise came back into my routine, but I wasn't as diligent about tracking. In what felt like the blink of an eye, I gained 10 pounds. 10!

So I've moved my tracker back to 160. I'm de... My daughter, who will be 3 the end of this month, had her very first dance class. I've been looking forward to this moment for a long time.
