First Hurricane Ike in 2008 damaged a lot of trees. Then it was draught 2009-2011. It gave the insects a foothold and the trees have been coming down. Beautiful place and it was so early in the season we had it mainly to ourselves. We spent the night in East Glacier at the Mountain Pine Motel and we ate Buffalo Burgers at the Luna Café. Lots of history in "Last Chance Gulch" were four miners struck gold in 1864. This is the cabin that one of them built. It is the oldest surviving building in Helena. Pretty town. The Eagle Gate marks the original entrance to the homestead of Brigham Young. This bronze eagle is a replacement of the original one erected in 1859.
