I had been eating cheese and Greek yogurt daily and only recently did I add back the yogurt. For a week solid my face was broken out and I knew the cause of it but continued eating the yogurt. Anyway, I'm still not ever going to be the person who forbids any ... Sat, 11 Jan 2014 03:11:43 EST It's Not All or Nothing I have to remind myself sometimes that until the day is done, I still have an opportunity to move my body. Whether I'm able to get in the gym at 0430 or knock out a run after dinner or get an extra walk in with the dogs just before bed, I have moved. It used to be all or nothing for me...if I didn't get my workout in first thing in the morning, I considered my window of opportunity closed. So do what you can when you can. Doing something is better than doing nothing!

<i... Tue, 7 Jan 2014 00:04:09 EST Be Nice to Yourself! Be mindful of the way you talk to yourself. Your body hears what your mind says. I really gave in to sugar over the holidays. Even though I have identified sugar as an addictive property for me, I still justified consuming it because it goes along with "being in the Christmas spirit" to consume all the traditional desserts. I have since gotten the sugar out of my system once again and perhaps it is gone from my life for good this time!! In hindsight, it's really not worth it.

Thu, 2 Jan 2014 23:01:25 EST Food=Fuel I will eat to fuel my body. Thu, 10 Jan 2013 07:08:11 EST Tomorrow Morning Will Not Be A Replay

I did not go to the gym this morning...I got up and ate breakfast, it was raining and my stomach hurt for whatever reason. I went back to bed until 6 am. Tomorrow I will push through any crappy feelings or discomfort or bad weather to get to the gym and get my workout in. I will. Tue, 8 Jan 2013 06:34:49 EST Guns

No, no. I'm not going to get on my soapbox about gun control. Today was Arms and Cardio....0315 I was up getting ready to go to the gym.....0345 I was eating breakfast....0430 I was in the gym ready to work on the guns. I'm poking fun at myself if you couldn't tell. I did Biceps and Triceps and managed to squeeze out a new personal best by curling a 60 lb. barbell for 6 reps. That made me feel invincible... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 03:31:07 EST Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' 10 days ago I finally got to see the podiatrist (this is something that I have been begging for from military medical for at least 3 months). He examined my left foot and determined that I have Morton's neuroma and plantar fasciitis. 2 shots later, he sent me on my way and even told me to run if I felt like it. Well, I opted to walk the dogs instead because my foot was quite tender. So the next day I noticed that I had bruising at both injection sites but the tenderness was minimal. I ra... One of my goals for this year is to be able to max out the pull ups for female Marines (7) by the time they implement the new pull ups rule (real pull ups, no dead hang). If you suck at something, just keep at it. Practice makes progress. Tue, 1 Jan 2013 05:28:36 EST Taking My Own Advice My daughter called me on Sunday to update me on her 5K training. She has been running in the evenings and is getting ready to run her first 5K (Color Me Rad 5K in OKC). I am beyond proud of her. She has been battling her weight and it seems that the running is starting to pay off. She is dropping pounds, getting faster little by little and her outlook on life seems a bit more positive. When she called me Sunday, she told me that she gets frustrated when she is running and people heavier ... I got up and got to the gym 25 minutes later than my target time. I still consider it successful because it happened. I got in 4 miles on the treadmill (was scheduled for 5 but my legs and knees are still very stiff) and then I did part of my upper body circuit. I got home and got ready for work and subbed for PE, which was fun and easy. Its my favorite class to sub for...especially when the kids cooperate. They did very well today...I kno... Tue, 3 Jan 2012 05:09:11 EST Back To Work Tomorrow Well, tomorrow its back to work for me. I had a great time off from the school even though I really didn't do that much but stay home and enjoy my family. I could tell the dogs were happy to have me home. lol I need to use the rest of today to get things in order: finish laundry, make soup, pick out my clothes, put my foodbag together. It's just after 1 pm here, so time is ticking away. One of my goals for this year is to be able to go to work, do my job and not get caught up in other ... Sun, 1 Jan 2012 23:18:21 EST The 18 Miler - Bad Start, Good Ending This morning as I was getting ready to get out of my car (I park near one of the gates and run off base) it started pouring. Fortunately, it only poured for about 5-10 minutes. I was prepared to run in it regardless, but starting a run in the pouring rain is a lot harder than when it happens in the middle or end of a run. I'm glad it stopped. I got about 3 miles under my belt when the urge to go to the restroom hit me. I was near a Family Mart, so I went in, did my business and got back ... Sun, 1 Jan 2012 02:09:26 EST 18 Miler on Tap for New Year's Morning I have every intention of being a better blogger next year (tomorrow!!) Here in Okinawa, we're pretty much a day ahead of the states. Anyway, Christmas morning I ran 17.4 the interest of keeping my kilometers even, I added the .4 without really thinking about it until afterwards. My time was 3:12:38. Not too bad. Tomorrow morning I will be running my scheduled 18 miles. I haven't decided if I want to do 29k or 30k. If I do 29, it will be 18.02 miles and if I do 30 it will be... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 23:45:59 EST Day 2 of Marathon Training: Success! I forgot to start my marathon training blogging yesterday, so just a quick recap of day 1...a 3 mile run was in order, and I didn't have a 3 mile route mapped out, so I ran for 30 minutes. I doubt that I got 3 miles in, but it was probably pretty close. It felt great...running outside in the dark. Spoooooky LOL

Now today, day 2: I mapped out a route outside of the base, but today opted to get my 5 mile run on the treadmill....the first mile was the hardest. I was distracted e... I'll get on a roll and then pow...a butterfly flies by and I'm chasing it into never never land. My life has always been this way. Maybe one day I will conquer this, because I do consider it a weakness. I'm back from chasing the figurative butterfly, and I've got a little recap.

I'll talk about the meeting first. Last Thursday I introduced our fitness group of 10 (-1 was missing) to Sparkpeople and it went over pretty well.... Wed, 23 Mar 2011 03:15:24 EST Thursday Presentation- Take 2 Okay, last week's Nutrition presentation didn't happen. 3 out of 10 people showed up, so we postponed. I was thinking and thinking and overthinking my presentation since then and well, I decided to change my presentation. This fitness group was put together by Health Promotions here on base and they are advocating as a reference site. Well, tomorrow I intend to change that with my presentation. What better opportunity to present Sparkpeople?? The team has been fairly stagn... Wed, 16 Mar 2011 07:46:30 EST We're Ok Here in Okinawa I just wanted to let everyone know that Okinawa is okay. We are about 970 miles south of mainland Japan and for some reason the tsunami waves didn't have much impact in this direction, which I am very thankful for to say the least. On Friday afternoon, my husband called me and told me we were in a Tsunami Alert status, that Japan just suffered an 8.9 earthquake. I couldn't believe it...that is by far the highest magnitude I have ever heard of, ever. I looked on tv and sure enough there it... Sat, 12 Mar 2011 05:32:16 EST Nutrition Lecture at School Thursday I have been tasked to give a presentation on Nutrition to a group of teachers...and a principal. I have a pretty good idea how i want to approach it and what I want to say. I really hope just one person "gets" it. We shall see. I'll post another blog with my perception of how it went. Tue, 8 Mar 2011 05:04:20 EST I Was Sort of MIA.... Some of you have been so good to me the last few weeks and I feel like the crappiest Sparkfriend ever. For all the friends who posted a message on my page (AKAFIT, I'm sorry!) for all the Goodies I've gotten, and for the most special honor of Instructor in the Spotlight (I was over the moon - what a surprise it was! you got me ADAMST3!!) I just want to apologize for being MIA and please know that I was caught in the undertow called Life. I recently took a permanent position at the school a... Sat, 12 Feb 2011 05:42:22 EST Day 36: The Treadmill IS My Friend I used to HATE the treadmill.

Today, I profess my love for it. Look, it is by no means cold here, relatively speaking. But if I have my choice, for now, I want to run indoors. And so goes my relationship with the treadmill.

A few years ago, you wouldn't catch me on a treadmill, unless I was taking a meaningless, leisurely walk with a slightly elevated heartrate. 10 minutes later, I would be finding something else to do because the treadmill was BORING.

N... Sun, 30 Jan 2011 04:19:00 EST Day 35: P90X's Tony Horton Visits Okinawa Tony Horton was here in Okinawa doing "Meet and Greet"s and book signings and I heard he was also supposed to be at the Kadena Gym at some point. We were at the Kadena PX when people were waiting in line to meet him, get books signed, pictures, etc. Well, about 10 minutes before he was going to come out, there was an announcement over the P.A. that he would be out in 10 minutes, he would only be signing books, he would only be there until about 5:45 pm (it was 5 pm already) and there would ... Sat, 29 Jan 2011 05:53:36 EST Day 22:Pumpkin, Protein and PMS The 3 Ps.

I've had my fill of all three today.

Check my Food Tracker. Oh wait.

You can't track PMS. Or can you?

Actually, you can...but you have to read between the lines to find it.

The words pumpkin and Cool Whip in my Food Tracker are a very good indication that there is some PMSing going on. Why pumpkin?

All day I was thinking about the pumpkin pie slices at the Commissary. 471
I wanted one.
B... Sun, 16 Jan 2011 08:55:37 EST Day 20:Treadmills and Childbirth This morning I was running on the treadmill, having some quality time with my man, Ice Cube. 315

We were Steady Mobbin'.

I was going along, trying not to bob my head because somehow I was pretty sure it would've thrown off my balance and I would've probably bitten the dust in front of a packed house.

So no head bobbin' Steady Mobbin'.

A guy decked out in his bright sunshine yellow Navy pt shirt hopped on a treadmill on th... Fri, 14 Jan 2011 01:08:35 EST Day 17: We're Living In A Facebook World...And I Am A Facebook Girl...Not The title was supposed to be sung to the tune of Material Girl. Get it? Ok, maybe not.

Anyway, the point of my blog is that people are relying on Facebook waaaay too much to get information out to others.

A few days ago, one of my husband's Marines announced the birth of his child before calling work to let anybody know. How did my husband find out? One of the other Marines apparently was "checking his Facebook" and saw the message. My husband was not happy.
<... Tue, 11 Jan 2011 03:03:32 EST Day 15: Thinking About Buying A Pressure Cooker... I've been reading through my vegan recipe books and it seems that it is cheaper and healthier to cook dry beans in a pressure cooker. I usually just buy beans in the can, but the sodium is pretty high and even though I rinse them, I'm sure its more sodium than I need in my plan. So...I'm thinking about buying a pressure cooker and my only experience with one is watching my stepmother cook boiled peanuts in one, and I was more concerned with eating the peanuts than watching her use it. Does... Sun, 9 Jan 2011 01:28:14 EST Day 14: Don't Let the Lipstick Fool Ya I wear lipstick to the gym.

So?

I have my reasons. Ok, I have A reason. My father blessed me with no definitive upper lip. I think its the Irish blood, but I'm not sure.

He has a moustache, I have lipstick.

That's not really what this blog is about, though.

This blog is about the fact that even though I wear lipstick to the gym, you best believe I am there to WORK.

I'm not there to be pretty. Fri, 7 Jan 2011 02:19:29 EST Day 11: Sick If I have to be sick, I might as well get it over with at the first of the year. I am rarely ill these days...unfortunately my husband shared his sore throat, runny nose and ear pain with me. I still love him. Heck, I was the one who insisted on kissing him on the lips when he said I could just kiss him on the cheek. The bottom line is that IF I'm going to get sick, I'm going to get sick. I figure this should cover me for the rest of 2011. I'm being optimistic.

As for school... Tue, 4 Jan 2011 22:28:15 EST Day 9: Exhausted After First Day Back to School I made it into the gym by 0430 this morning and if you think I'm crazy, there were at least 10 people already in there.
