Sat, 21 Sep 2013 22:03:06 EST Moderation...in all things http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5444575 I had a great week last week. Stayed on the low end of my calorie range, and exercised every day. TWICE every day Monday through Friday. Partly to try out some evening exercise classes for when I go back to work in two weeks (ugh!) and partly to make my Fitbit step goals. And DH took off Friday afternoon to hike with me. My normal routine this summer has been to walk 3 miles at the park on M,W, and F, and 30 minutes on the elliptical and weights at the gym on T and Th. I've also been tr... Sun, 4 Aug 2013 21:37:47 EST Fit Bit! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5440291 Got my FitBit today! I had already done my 3-mile walk this morning, so of course I had to go back out and try it this evening. I usually use the Gaia lite app on my iphone to track my mileage and speed, and they matched exactly! And it showed on my tracker as soon as I logged in. This is going to be fun and motivating. 224 Wed, 31 Jul 2013 21:27:43 EST Old Fool http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5438958 It's true, there's no fool like an old fool!

In my attempt to find some exercise options for when I go back to school I've been checking out some evening classes at the gym. Yoga last night was great.

Tonight I tried a kettle bell class. I should have taken my first clue when I realized I was twice as old and twice as heavy as anyone else in the class! Tue, 30 Jul 2013 19:05:53 EST Good Week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5436494 Moved my ticker down 3.2 lbs. today! (That includes the .6 from the 2 week vacay.) Still makes it a good week:) No alcohol since vacation has made a big difference, as well as eating in 7 of last 8 nights.

Great 3 mile hike today. If I count it as a "hike climbing hills carrying less than 10 lbs." it is 720 cal. If I track the mileage and time (65 min.) it only gives me 320 cal. I counted the lower amount, and whatever over is all good I guess. Have also tried some of the S... Sun, 28 Jul 2013 18:28:52 EST Feeling Great, Loving Summer! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5433016 I wish summer lasted forever! I am in such a good routine... I exercise early when it's still cool, come back and do a little housework or yard work, and have time to plan, shop, and prepare healthy meals. I enjoy cooking when I'm not starved and rushed at the end of the work day. Also enjoying reading, crafting, and a (very) little bit of planning for the upcoming school year. So relaxed and carefree! It's so much easier to take care of myself with more time and less stress.
<BR... DH and I both celebrated our birthdays there too. We road bikes every morning, and walked on the beach for hours (not cardio fast, but 3-4 miles daily...it's hard to walk fast splashing through the surf and tid... Thu, 4 Jul 2013 13:59:19 EST Back on track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5399253 Summer break is a great time to get on track with my nutrition and fitness goals. I've exercised 9 out of 10 days since I got out of school, and tracked and stayed within my nutrition goals for a whole week. The first day of break, I walked 3 miles before 8:00! I'm not really a morning person, but I am enjoying getting to the park at 7:30 to walk with my good friend while it is still cool. The forecast is for rain the first part of this week, so I guess I'll have to make myself go to the ... Sun, 23 Jun 2013 15:29:04 EST Morning Exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2177371 One of the best things about summer vacation is being able to work out in the morning. I have gone to jazzercise or water aerobics almost every morning since I have been out of school. It gets the day started right, and I have more energy all day.

Today my knee was a little sore, so I slept in a bit and skipped jazzercise, but went to the park to walk. Lots of wood violets, trout lily, bluets, and a few bloodroots. Looking forward to lady slippers, dwarf iris, and wild geranium.I love spring wildflowers! Sun, 5 Apr 2009 18:28:25 EST 3 years with SP http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1934902 I got my 25 sparkpoints today for 36 months with SP. I'm still not at goal, but I'm much healthier and slimmer than when I began! The plan worked when I was working the plan, so I'm trying to stay 100% with it, like I did the first year when I lost all my weight. After 2 1/2 weeks of consistently staying in my calorie range, I can tell I'm moving in the right direction again. Sparkpeople forever! Wed, 1 Apr 2009 21:24:29 EST Regaining control http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1928071 After two weeks of conscientiously following my spark plan, I have lost 5 lbs. of the 17 I gained by carelessness over about 6 months time. Again reminding myself it's a lifestyle not a diet. Fortunately I have been consistent with my exercise, but trying to step that up a notch for a while until my spring clothes fit again. (My 10's from last summer were really tight, now I can squeeze into them again. Need to lose 5 more pounds to be back to last fall's low.) Tracking calories has really helped, need to lose the booze to be 100% on program, but I'm feeling really good about getting bac... Thu, 31 Jul 2008 21:18:58 EST Happy Birthday to Me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1322400 Tomorrow is my 51st b-day. I started this journey a little over 2 years ago. Approaching my 49th, and realizing I'm not getting any younger. I wanted to go into my next half-century healthier and fitter. I have done some backsliding this year, with lots of stress at work and DD's growing pains, but I am much, much healthier and happier than I was at 49. I have maintained a 55 lb weight loss by exercising regularly, making healthy food choices, and drinking lots of water. SP has been a g... Wed, 9 Jul 2008 13:03:14 EST Time for me http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1305520 It has been a hectic spring, with dd's graduation, graduation celebration, graduation trip to FL, and getting her to her summer camp job in Maryland. Lots of emotions... excitiment, tension, frustration, pride, and just plain fatigue. With everything going on, and the travel, I've been remiss in planning and tracking, and the scales show it. Cardio has been ok, as I need it to cope with stress, but strength training and calorie counting has not happened. And I have to admit, too much alco... Tue, 1 Jul 2008 11:47:39 EST More whining! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1165900 Seriously not my week. Today I woke up with a cold. Long week. Long month. My daddy's had two heart procedures in the last 10 days, and now has pneumonia. My teenage daughter had permission to go on a school camping trip last weekend, and went to an all night party instead. I found out because some of her friends backed into the neighbor's fence and I got a nasty phone call. And I was sure she couldn't have been there... so we've had a week. She's a senior. So ready to be on her own, and so not ready. And so disrespectul and... Tue, 22 Apr 2008 22:53:17 EST Starting a Streak http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1032279 Haven't been very consistent the last couple of weeks, and it shows on the scales. This week I will start a streak...exercise daily (no matter what the weather, I have lots of options,) enter EVERYTHING in my nutrition tracker, and drink 10 glasses of water every day. Rewards: for one week of consistency, new workout clothes. For two weeks, a massage. For a month, a new outfit! Sun, 24 Feb 2008 18:47:30 EST Good start to the week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=963936 Got the week off to a good start with a 4-mile hike, for a 630 calorie burn. It was supposed to be 57 degrees, but it never hit 50, and the wind was brisk, so it was chilly, but invigorating!

Think I am going to join a new gym. Sun, 27 Jan 2008 18:04:07 EST Fair Weather Fitness http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=942818 Got off to a great start this week, worked out at the gym Sunday, and Jazzercized Monday and Tuesday. Then there was snow in the forecast...spent Wednesday after school stocking up for ingredients for some hearty soups and stews and getting ready to hunker down. No school Thursday and Friday, (even though Friday the roads were clear and it wasn't too cold,) and I just lazed around, scrapbooked, did puzzles. The snow turned into freezing rain Thursday, so no playing in the snow. No reason I... Sun, 20 Jan 2008 15:48:13 EST Another day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=898147 Dh has a cold, so I planned to hike with the club, but he wanted to get out. Went to Chimney Rock, hoping to go up the 4 Seasons Trail and to the bottom of the falls, a gentle 3 mile walk. It turned out the trail to the falls was closed due to melting ice chunks falling down. So we took the elevator up to the chimney, went down the steps (about 10 minutes), and then walked about 30 minutes around Lake Lure. Better than no exercise, but not the calorie burn or the endorphin buzz I was hopi... Sun, 6 Jan 2008 17:17:56 EST Reflections on a new year http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=895258 2 years ago, I would never have imagined that at age 50, I would be 55 lbs. lighter, wearing regular size clothing, fit, and active. As a matter of fact, I didn't even resolve to lose weight, after numerous unsuccessful attempts. It wasn't until April 2006, that I was googling a printable food log that I found SP and got motivated to make a change. Starting with "baby steps," I began walking, drinking enough water, and tracking my calories. Gradually, I added strength training and more int... Sat, 5 Jan 2008 17:26:05 EST Snow Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=884916 Hurray! No school today! We had such a short break, and I was so busy with shopping, cleaning, cooking, and entertaining, it was great to wake up to the news that it's an optional work day. Got to sleep in, update SP goals, read the paper, and work the puzzles. I guess that means no Jazzercise tonite, but I'll use my treadmill and a pilates video. I weighed in this morning, and I'm up a few pounds, hopefully some is water retention from the country ham from the party yesterday. I tried... Wed, 2 Jan 2008 10:42:05 EST Life is good! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=874484 Worked out yesterday on the treadmill and stability ball, hiked Big Glassy today wit dh. Exercise is on track for the week, and still have jazzercise tomorrow, and lots of walking Sat. for ball game. Family will be here this weekend, have planned an appetizer buffet, with lots of healthy choices. Actually I can't wait to get back into a routine! Walked over an hour today in Pisgah Forest, hiked Big Glassy on Sunday. Went to SIL's for christmas eve breakfast yesterday. Dinner tonite was filet mignon, marinated green beans, and double baked potatoes. The problem was the alcohol and the dessert (key lime cheesecake!) Hope no one noticed. Shopped today for 24 students with a grant from a retired physician. Got excellent discount, only spent $1200 for full outfits including coats and shoes for many. Wed, 12 Dec 2007 18:11:49 EST I can do this! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=855948 I'm happy to report that I have been back on SP for a week. Recorded calories and exercise every day, and stayed in range 5 out of 7. Didn't work out today, but went to church, breakfast with dh and friends, planned healthy meals and went to the grocery store, did two loads of laundry, put up the tree (lights took forever,) and went to a vistation for a friend's husband who died suddenly, so I've had a full day! Tomorrow is the staff party, so I won't make it to Jazzercise, but I plan to ge... Sun, 9 Dec 2007 22:07:03 EST Week's going well http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=853012 I'm pleased with my consistency and effort this week. In spite of a UTI early in week and a couple of days of not working out, I'm hanging in there. I really hope to see a difference on the scale Monday! Tracking everything 100% and staying in calorie range. Jazzercized twice this week and got a good workout at the gym yesterday. This weekend is supposed to be mild and sunny, planning to get in a long hike (1000 caloaries at least!) and some fresh air. School staff party is Monday, and ... Thu, 6 Dec 2007 20:48:58 EST On track for the holidays http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=849012 Logged nutrition 100% today, and stayed in range. It felt good to be back in control. I missed work today because I had to go back to the doctor for a relapse of a UTI. I haven't felt well since the day before Thanksgiving. Had a nasty cold the whole break, then the UTI began on Monday when I had to go back to work. Hopefully this round of meds will knock it out. I did hike, jazzercise, or hit the gym during the holidays and most every day last week, but did nothing yesterday and today... Mon, 3 Dec 2007 20:04:16 EST The best hour of the day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=830829 Hiked the trails at Chimney Rock Park today. Since dh and I bought season passes, we do this every weekend...about thee miles, 60 minutes or so. (Try to do Big Glassy at least once a week also.) It's always the best hour of the day for me. Today, the leaves were incredible...bright yellows, oranges, and reds! The peak of the leaf season was predicted for almost a month ago, and I thought the rest of the leaves would turn brown and fall off, but today was the most vivid of the color season... Sat, 17 Nov 2007 22:09:54 EST The Best Hour of the Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=776844 Today dh and I hiked Chimney Rock state park from the parking lot, up to Hickory Nut Falls, and back around to the chimney, for about 3 miles. Beautiful day, low humididy, and great views. Haven't posted here in a while, but doing great on the exercise front, need to do better keeping up with calorie count. Sun, 7 Oct 2007 23:07:12 EST (no title) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=718495 Last week I committed to record everything to get bak on track. Then school started, with accompanying long days and not much time to workout, breakfasts and treats, etc, and I have been MIA for a week...lol! Exercise has been OK, though not stellar, and I don't have a clue about food, since I did not record it, though I have been really good about fruits and vegs, and alcohol consumption has been moderate. I'm guessing about 1800-2000 cal. per day. Haven't gained or lost, so that's a plu... Sun, 26 Aug 2007 21:40:16 EST Being honest with myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=710089 I finally entered my weight yesterday after several weeks of avoiding facing the truth. I have gained 4 lbs. this summer. I have been extremely active all summer, with long hikes, regular jazzercize, and kept up with my weight training, but I have also been very lax in weighing and measuring portions, recording food choices, and drinking more alcohol, which leads to lowered self-control. Guess I thought I had things under control. Lesson being, I can probably never just live a healthy life... Mon, 20 Aug 2007 21:38:06 EST Getting back into a routine http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=693962 West Virginia was awesome! Good training, excellent hiking, and the overnight backpacking trip was a memorable experience. Total sense of self-reliance having everything I needed on my back. I always hike with a day pack, but a 30-lb pack with tent and other necessities was really challenging. But what a great feeling to pitch my tent, join friends at the campfire, and sleep under the stars!

Sadly, one of our team was bitten by a venomous snake, probably a timber rattler, and... Thu, 9 Aug 2007 17:37:41 EST Lifestyle change, one day at a time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=670585 Pretty much back on track this week, after a great week at the beach. I was very active on vacation, walked, jogged, and kayaked. But still came back a couple of pounds heavier...must have been those frozen margaritas, but hey, they were good! I'm not going to record my weight until Sunday when our challenge ends. (Hopefully I'll at least be back to start weight if not down a little!)

Exercise is great...jogged Sunday, hiked yesterday, and Jazzercised Monday and today. Goi... Wed, 25 Jul 2007 12:53:14 EST The big Five-0! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=650382 So, I'm really 50! Kind of hard to believe, or to realize how I got so old. Got my driver's license renewed today, and I have to say, I look much better and younger than last time. First license pic I think I ever liked! Saturday is our Sunset Beach trip, I can't wait. Had hoped to have lost more weight by now, but this week I took a few days off...exercised, but didn't get in but one good hike, had wine and dessert to celebrate dh and my birthdays, and didn't track for a few days. Stil... Thu, 12 Jul 2007 19:14:29 EST Starting the week right (almost) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=634105 Three good hikes in the last 4 days. A 6 mile loop on the North Slope trail Thursday, 3-4 miles in Dupont Forest Sunday, and a 5 miler yesterday in the Florence Nature Preserve, where I got drenched in a thunderstorm! My pack, my waterproof shoes, and my leather car seats will never be the same! Got in a great weight session at the gym today, along with 45 minutes on the elliptical. Do need to get better about the pilates on alternate days, need to strengthen that core. The 'almost' is t... Johns's Rock last weekend, and Big Glassy today. I live to hike! The awesome thing is that it's not for the calorie burn anymore, but the other exercise is to get me fitter for hiking! Jazzercized twice, and went to the gym twice for weight training. Weight is still maintaining, I haven't tracked nutrition every day, still need to get back to the discipline and... Sun, 24 Jun 2007 17:51:32 EST Great week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=609249 Finished school on Tuesday, got my room organized and packed up for the summer. Now it's "me time!" Two great hikes this week. Went with CMC on an 8-mile hike to John's Rock and Cedar Rock Wednesday. Awesome views, good companionship, and a great workout...4 hours hiking with a pack burns megacalories. Can't wait until next week for another all day hike to Roan Mountain. Walked up to Big Glassy this morning, and back around over Little Glassy for an hour and 20 minutes. Saw Indian pi... Sat, 16 Jun 2007 14:32:58 EST Beautiful Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=581496 Enjoyed a lovely walk up to Big Glassy, this has become my Tuesday walk, as I have a meeting at 6 p.m. just minutes from the Sandburg house. Still can't believe that what was once a half-day hike is now an evening stroll. Went to my meeting sweaty, but felt so much less stressed. Saw lots of fire pink, galax, turtlehead, and another flower I need to identify. When I first started hiking, it was for the calorie burn, but now I live for the days I can be on a trail. Only saw 2 other people... Tue, 29 May 2007 20:23:16 EST Take a deep breath! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=573471 OK, I have to calm down, and adjust my attitude! Jumped into panic mode for no reason. Boss OK'd time off, and good friends from church will let DD stay with them. So I'm off for the beach in a week! Move is still a possibility, but not a given. I need to learn to breathe deeply, and expect the best, not the worst. Busy week, meetings Mon, Tues, and tonite. Worked in some fitness yesterday, but not today, and missed weight training twice. Afraid to measure and weigh in for my challe... Wed, 23 May 2007 21:43:56 EST
