UMMTALHAH's SparkPeople Blog UMMTALHAH's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community RIP Elliptical UGH. So I finally get into a groove of regular weekly exercise with something I enjoy. I was doing 30 min on the elliptical 5 times a week for the last 3-4 months. I just added weight training in a month ago. Tuesday my ellipitcal broke... as in unfixable. The whole foot thing snapped off. Now I have to find something new to due cardio wise that will still be within my time constraints and get the job done. I guess I am going back to zumba?
On the good side I have lost 20 lbs and kept ... Wed, 5 Nov 2014 20:03:29 EST Feeling really discouraged I did cardio19 days out of the 28 days of February and didn't notice a single difference. Physically I look the exact same. I also GAINED weight. What the HECK? I am supposed to be losing weight. How on earth did I gain weight while working out 5 times a week? I could have quit I mean what's the point right?
Instead I have decided to change my diet around some and lower the amounts of servings and cut out certain things altogether. Maybe next week I will finally lose something? This is ... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 03:00:57 EST The scale is not my friend I must have a curse on me or something. This it the third scale I have purchased since I started this weight loss journey. Both of the previous scales had to be replaced beause they stopped showing the correct weight. And of course both are always showing that I am 4 lbs lighter than I actually am. So that means this week will look like a gain and truthfully I do not know how much I really weighed at the beginning of this month. I do know that I seem to have gained all the weight back that I ... Fri, 14 Feb 2014 04:46:06 EST 2013 wasn't a good year It was a hard hard year, physically, emotionally, and mentally. I had planned to lose weight but I had a bunch of things happen that either caused weight gain or kept me from exercising. I had an ectopic pregnancy in January of 2013 removed surgically so between the pregnancy and the surgery that started the year off setback. I had another early miscarriage in March of 2013. I went on to lose a few pounds and was regularly exercising but I got pregnant again in the summer and during ramadan s... Sun, 2 Feb 2014 21:48:23 EST UNDER 180!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness!!!! This is the first time in 4 years I have been under 180 lbs. Ok so it's only one lb under but seriously?!?!?!? I am so happy. It seems like something I am doing is right so I am just going to keep on. I haven't done my measurements yet but I did last week and definitely lost some inches in my hips and waist. 244 30 Mon, 8 Jul 2013 09:19:39 EST June update Life has been crazy hectic for me and exercising had to take a backseat for a second. I am in my last quarter in college and the workload for my senior capstone was pretty heavy. I graduate next week though so I am going back into health mode. I have managed to stay under 190 lbs though so that is good.

This week I am doing a juice/raw diet type of deal. I am juicing for breakfast and lunch and eating a salad for dinner. I have had so many health issues since having my baby I want ... Mon, 17 Jun 2013 11:16:42 EST March 1st update Ok so I am a little late posting this. I decided to only weigh myself once a month because it stresses me out to much to see a bunch of fluctuating weights. So starting now I am not even looking at the scale until I do my monthly weigh-in. As of March 1st I am still 189.2 lbs, so I pretty much lost nothing weight wise. I did take pictures of myself on February 1st and again on March 1st to compare in the hopes that if I have one of these moments where no loss is noted or even gain weight I ca... Tue, 5 Mar 2013 11:43:34 EST Feeling discouraged already It hasn't even been a month and already I am discouraged. I weighed myself. I have gained 3 lbs this month. 39 I didn't really change anything other than working out twice a week. How did this happen? I eat fruit, veggie sausage with one slice of potato bread for breakfast. I usually drink a cup of cinnamon tea also. I eat a salad with Italian dressing and maybe crackers or 1 piece of potato bread for lunch. I drink water only, no juice or soda. For dinner I fill my plate half f... Tue, 26 Feb 2013 09:15:37 EST Been a few months. Well so much has gone on since the last time I blogged. I had a c-section in May of last year that was pretty traumatic and left me unable to exercise due to pain for a while. Then I got pregnant again unexpectedly in November but I had a lot of bleeding so I had to not exercise again. At almost 9 weeks I had to have surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy from my right tube. Right after that my whole house got the flu. This was a month ago. I waited until the pain from surgery was better and ... Tue, 5 Feb 2013 12:08:00 EST It's been a rough few weeks Well first the good news is that I have not gained any weight back so yay for that. I started to work out and then started bleeding pretty heavily at the same time so I stopped for a while and took it as a sign my body still needed more time to heal. Then Ramadan started which has me having early mornings and late nights leaving me little time to exercise. My almost 2 yr old daughter also was hospitalized for 3 days which threw everything in my life off it seems. I already feel like August is... Sun, 12 Aug 2012 16:54:05 EST Time to set some goals maybe? I have my 6 week postpartum check up tomorrow and will find out if I can start exercising or if I should wait 2 more weeks since I had a c-section. I am not gonna lie I am ready to go ahead and get started with a routine because the weight is coming off pretty easy this time probably due to the diet changes I made.

Speaking of which, I am seriously considering going back to being a vegetarian/vegan. Or at the very least only eating meat products once or twice a week and eating raw ... Sun, 1 Jul 2012 12:40:27 EST Weight keeps coming off I don't know if I should be happy or be worried. I am still not even exercising but I am breastfeeding exclusively. The only thing is that I have never been one of those kind of people that loses weight breastfeeding. In fact I have almost always been the opposite in that I gain weight.

As of today I am 8.2 lbs less than I was pre-pregnancy. So what is different this time is what I am asking myself. I guess for one I changed my diet around while pregnant to control my blood sugar ... Sun, 17 Jun 2012 12:23:25 EST Had my baby two weeks ago Well technically I had him 16 days ago. Thankfully I controlled my diet very well and only gained 26 lbs during his pregnancy. I am 2 weeks postpartum and have not only lost all that I gained but I lost 2 more lbs on top of that!. Yay! So I am already at a head start this time.

I had a c-section so I will be unable to really do any exercise until 6 weeks from now so that everything heals. Hopefully breastfeeding will keep my weight in check until then. I can't wait to get into a n... Tue, 5 Jun 2012 18:32:44 EST Been gone for awhile Well let's see I waiting a while before posting this just because I really didn't want a lot of people knowing. After Ramadan ended I found out I was expecting baby #6. So that has caused me to put a stop on weight loss and just focus on being healthy and not gaining too much this time.

So far I have done well and actually have not gained a single pound. In fact I lost a little bit. I am hoping this means I will be able to control my weight gain because I usually gain way too much ... Sun, 30 Oct 2011 23:23:05 EST Today is the first day of Ramadan I will probably not be updating my weight or inches until it is over since I am fasting this month. Not sure what that will do to my weight loss. I will probably be still exercising regularly though.

Mon, 1 Aug 2011 12:21:39 EST One step forward two steps back... Or is that pounds instead of steps?? I have no idea what is going on with my body right now. Even though exercise has been hard I have managed to find time still to get at least 2 workouts in a week. I don't overeat (at least I don't think I do) but I gained weight this week. I am not even going to track it because it is depressing but basically last week I weighed in at 194.4 and this morning I was 197 46

I don't know what is going on. I suspect some of this may be horm... Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:44:22 EST Trying to move forward So I didn't blog about my weigh-in Monday. I didn't even bother with measuring so that is partly why. I did weigh myself and surprisingly lost 0.4 lbs. I am still having a rough time getting myself back into a routine. My baby is getting back on her schedule so that helps. But it does feel like a new challenge always emerges.

One thing I have noticed though is for some reason the less I exercise the more I want to eat. I found that weird since I would think exercising would actuall... Thu, 21 Jul 2011 11:17:08 EST I thought last week was bad... this week is worse I have had the worst week. And I may be complaining now due to a lack of sleep but I need to get it out.

Monday- wanted to get up and exercise but baby would not let me. Every time I tried to move she would open her eyes and then grab me. There was no way I was going to be able to get away from her. There was no spare time to exercise and I wasn't overly concerned because it was the beginning of the week.

Tuesday- Always a busy day for me so it I don't get up early morni... Thu, 14 Jul 2011 11:55:17 EST Been a rough week Ugh. Ok so I was in a really good pattern and was pretty consistently waking up in the morning to exercise until my baby decided that sleep is no longer a good thing to do. She started crawling last week and this has made her sleeping patterns completely change. She used to be predictable and would definitely stay asleep in the morning long enough for me to get a workout in.

I went from exercising 5 times a week for at least 20 minutes when my kids were in school to 3 times a week... Mon, 11 Jul 2011 11:03:07 EST Finally met the 5 lbs lost milestone! Well sort of, when I started this journey I initially gained 3 lbs so from that weight I have lost 5 lbs. I still am not losing a lot per week but at least I am losing and not gaining. We also just purchased a weight bench complete with leg extension and leg lift add ons. I am exited about this because it will keep me motivated and wanting to do strength training! I didn't report much last week because there was no change other than a little weight loss but I made up for it this week.
<... Mon, 4 Jul 2011 15:15:49 EST Not much of a change I only lost 0.4 lbs this week and no inches lost at all. I suspect that my monthly friend may be partly to blame as I feel bloated and can just tell she is on her way. I also have a horrible headache. I didn't get to exercise this morning either because it took me 45 minutes to get my baby to go back to sleep and by then it was only a matter of time before the rest of the house woke up. I am hoping to make up for it tomorrow. I would rather miss a strength training day than a cardio day so I ... Mon, 27 Jun 2011 10:23:20 EST If the tortoise wins, I would be first place I just cannot lose a full pound. I suppose I could just be happy the scale is going down but at the rate I am going it will be 2 years before I meet my goal.It is a bit frustrating nonetheless.

I will say I am hard core about exercising now. Who says you can't Zumba while holding a baby? 20 She woke up halfway through my workout. The old me would have quit but instead I thought more intensity to hold a 17+ lb butterball LOL.

I will say I have lost inches too s... Mon, 20 Jun 2011 07:48:14 EST Reevaluating workout schedule again So I switched up my routine a bit this week since I no longer have to get the kids up for school. However, the baby still wakes up by 7 am every morning and sometimes before that. I already get up by 5:30 am because I have to make my morning prayer and right after I use that time to exercise while the house is still asleep (and hubby has already left for work) I started doign longer cardio routines (40 and 60 minutes) as opposed to the 20-25 ones I was doing. I was hoping more cardio and stre... Wed, 15 Jun 2011 14:47:34 EST June 13th weigh-in and measurements Well I was able to do 40 minutes of cardio this morning and 2 strength training exercises before the baby woke up. I am going to try to finish the strength training later today. I have noticed a change in my appetite lately. I don't seem to be starving all of the time. Maybe my metabolism is changing? Or maybe hunger used to be more mental than physical? I dunno.

Anyway, I only lost half a pound this week again. I am no longer defeated by small numbers as long as the scale goes do... Mon, 13 Jun 2011 07:20:02 EST Slow and steady for sure. Weigh-in day Well if slow and steady wins the race then I should have no problem getting first place. I only lost 0.2 lbs this week. part of that may be because I missed a day of exercise last week. Part of it may also be that I did not nurse my baby this morning before weighing myself and I am quite sure I was full of at least a half a lb of milk. Nonetheless at least I did not gain right?

I will be changing up my exercise routine starting next week. My kids being in school puts me on a time ... Mon, 6 Jun 2011 12:51:20 EST Ugh. Today was the first time in three weeks I missed a workout. I just couldn't/can't do it today. My baby cried all.night.long. And I am not kidding when I say that. I got NO sleep at all. I am just too exhausted to exercise. And that disappoints me because that's 300 calories I am not going to be able to burn this week. I really hope it doesn't mess me up too bad. ( and if you are wondering the weekends are not an option to make the time up it's way to full of other responsibilities.) Thu, 2 Jun 2011 10:07:11 EST This weeks weigh in and measurements. Just as I suspected I didn't lose much. I am only down a half a pound but hey it's better than gaining I guess. Here are my stats for this week:

Starting weight and inches:

Weight: 199.4
Waist(at belly button): 38.5
Hips: 45
Thighs: 24.75
Arms: 13

Last week:

Weight: 199.2
Waist: 37.50
Hips: 44
Thighs: 25.50
Arms: 13.5

This week:

Weight: 198.8
Waist: 38
Hips: 44.75
Thighs: 2... Mon, 30 May 2011 11:22:17 EST Another week down. I am feeling a lot better about myself and changing my outlook on exercising is really helping me. I was able to accomplish my calorie burn goal this week again (second week in a row woohoo). I planned to walk to the park with my kids today but halfway there it started thundering! So we had to turn around and come back home as fast as possible. I am pretty sure I burned more calories than what SP tells me because when I walk I carry my baby in a moby wrap sling so that is an extra 15+ lbs I a... Sat, 28 May 2011 15:47:56 EST PROGRESS!!!! Finally I was so happy to see some changes today after all my hard work last week. I walked a little over 2.5 miles on Saturday, did 3 days of the 30-day shred, one day of Zumba, and one day of kettlebell training.

I lost 2 lbs! I also lost some inches as well. Here is a break down of my accomplishments so far. I gained weight week 2 and 3. Today's is the beginning of week 4.

Week 1(the beginning):
... Mon, 23 May 2011 14:29:56 EST Still a few days away from my next weigh in But I am feeling much more positive this week. I did day 5 of the 30-day shred today and for the first time ever I made it through all 3 circuits without having to stop. So regardless of what my weigh in brings on Monday I know for sure that I am making progress just based on that alone.

I may walk to the park tomorrow but the weekends I have made my break from exercise so that my body can recover. Fri, 20 May 2011 11:52:54 EST Ok soI'm picking myself back up and dusting myself off. My weigh-in and measurements check on Monday really was a total disappointment. After being mad about it and feeling sorry for myself I decided to let it roll off my back and just focus on what is in front of me. Monday is gone so I need to focus on my next weigh in and what I can do between now and then to achieve some kind of loss, whether it is inches or pounds.

I did change up my exercise routine. I think doing the 30-day shred everyday is too much for me to deal with because m... Wed, 18 May 2011 14:20:15 EST What is the point really? Just as I suspected I gained weight. Not only did I gain weight but I gained inches too which is even more discouraging. What's the point of exercising if Its gonna push me into the opposite direction? Caloric intake is hard because I am breastfeeding and I am not sure how much or little I personally need to maintain a healthy diet and still lose weight. Breastfeeding also makes me hungry so I have to eat several times a day and I do my best to eat small portions.

I dunno what I am... Mon, 16 May 2011 11:23:41 EST Really in need of some motivation UGGGH. Tomorrow is my official measurement and weigh-in. I weighed myself this morning and I GAINED weight.... I did 2 days of the 30-day shred and a day of kettlebell training. WTH? I guess I will wait until tomorrow to really see what is going on but my gosh if exercising is gonna make me gain weight and inches then what the heck is the point 39

I am really hoping to see a difference tomorrow. Tomorrow I will also be on day 3 of the 30-day shred. I plan to add close to... Sun, 15 May 2011 09:30:06 EST Day 1 of the 30-day shred Well, this week has been off to a rough start. In high school I lifted weights and did cheer competitions which required a lot of gymnastics tumbling. I injured my right wrist doing back hand springs and on occasion it bothers me. Well somehow I must have hurt it last week or this weekend because I woke up Sunday in extreme pain. I couldn't put any weight on it and even using my thumb made it hurt. So I took off Monday and Tuesday for strength training and did no cardio because most of my DVD... Wed, 11 May 2011 12:35:34 EST Exercise.. SO after tracking my food for the last 3 days I have come to realize that food is not necessarily my problem. The nutrition program that Spark people has set up for me does not take into consideration that I am a breastfeeding mom. ( i know baby fit does but I am way to invested in spark people to join yet another weight loss community) Anyway point is that I do go over my calories but I still stay within the range of a breastfeeding mom. I also go over my fat limit as well but the majority o... Fri, 6 May 2011 12:44:50 EST Being accountable Maybe I need this aspect more than anything. I have never really tracked my calories as long as I have been on this website. I may have done it sporadically but never consistently enough to really hold myself accountable for what I am eating.

So I have decided to start doing a food journal but using spark people as my paper so to speak. I feel like maybe I am eating too many calories and or too large of servings. My only problem is that I am a breastfeeding mom so I am often time... Wed, 4 May 2011 10:08:38 EST Feeling really frustrated I must just be one of those women who gains/retains weight while breastfeeding. I have never had an easy time losing weight while nursing a baby. Too bad I wasn't one of the lucky women who drop pounds like nothing. UGH. It is so frustrating because I need to consume a certain amount of calories while nursing and at the same time not overeat because either one of those extremes adds even MORE weight. I feel so stuck right now. Not only do I need to find time to exercise I need energy to do it... Wed, 27 Apr 2011 12:49:04 EST Having the hardest time finding time to exercise This has been my biggest problem thus far. I have been trying to get into some kind of workout routine since my baby was 6 weeks. Very rarely do I get the opportunity to exercise and not have my kids "in the way" if you will. My baby is the most difficult to accommodate. She is very needy and is breastfed only so no one else can feed her.

Breastfeeding also makes me feel worn out as well. If I am not able to get some type of exercise in before the kids wake up in the morning the ch... Tue, 12 Apr 2011 08:55:45 EST Back again After some stressful college courses and a fussy baby I am back and hoping that I can keep up my trend of doing *something* everyday. I have exercised twice this week YAY! I need to also because the stress and the lack of exercise has caused me to gain about 10 lbs ugh. So I am basically back to the beginning again.

My plan this time is to just stick with cardio until I lose between 20-30 lbs. Mainly because I just don't have time to add strength training in at the moment. I also f... Tue, 5 Apr 2011 08:57:38 EST Struggling I am struggling to get a routine going for exercising. I managed to only do one day of strength training in the last 2 weeks and no cardio at all. I am having a hard time finding time. My baby breastfeeds a lot still during the day and at night I only get maybe a 4-5 hour stretch where she isn't nursing. On top of that I have 3 other kids to take care of. UGHH. I need to find a routine where I can at least do 10-15 minutes of cardio for the time being so that I can burn off *some* calories at... Sat, 18 Dec 2010 12:14:01 EST Gave birth to my baby girl on 10-25-10 So today marks 6 weeks and the start of the weight loss journey once again. The good news is that I have lost almost all of the baby weight that I gained. The bad news is that I still have about 40 lbs to lose from the first two babies I had LOL. I will start exercising again tomorrow and will start off slow. I was on bedrest for the last trimester of my pregnancy so I am not used to working out.

Does anyone here know if spark people has guidelines for nutrition for breastfee... Mon, 6 Dec 2010 14:51:46 EST Been a while again I thought I came and updated my page but I guess not. After my last blog I actually found out that I was pregnant. So I am currently awaiting the arrival of my new baby any day now. I will be back in full effect trying to work off baby weight 6 weeks postpartum. Can't wait to get back in shape! Tue, 12 Oct 2010 11:21:08 EST Holy cow... I lost 12.4 lbs just by watching my caloric intake....That is just amazing. I haven't even been able to start exercising yet. One thing I definitely did was drop the sweets and replace them with fresh fruit. So now whenever i get a sweet craving i eat fruit instead. I couldn't believe what the scales said Sat, 23 Jan 2010 09:02:02 EST It's been a while since I have been here.... Life has had many changes recently for me and I am trying to adjust to them all. I got divorced last year and then I also got married again. My new husband is amazing. I could not have asked for a better man.

My work schedule has changed twice in the last month so I am trying to get adjusted.

What can I say I gained all the weight back and now I am feeling miserable. So today I am starting over. I am going to track my calories, watch my portions, cut out certain foods,... Sat, 16 Jan 2010 09:58:23 EST Tough week So it has been a really hard week. My spring classes began and I was trying to get back into the habit of exercising. My kids decided getting a stomach bug was more fun so I spent all week running around to babysitters and was away from home anywhere from 6 am- 7pm almost the entire week. I was only able to exercise one day out of the whole week. YUCK.

So I am starting over once again this week and attempting to get on schedule with everything. My job shift will change hours on Ma... Sat, 18 Apr 2009 17:26:37 EST update on me... Sorry it has been so long since i blogged. I started a new job on 2/27 and that with my school studies left me with virtually no time. I have not been able to work exercise into my schedule since i got the job which really sucks. This week though I am going to get back into the flow. I got my new zumba videos and i will be following their program that came in the book. So I will hopefully be able to get rid of the rest of this weight of mine.

I will just be so glad when i can get ... Sun, 5 Apr 2009 11:57:20 EST So I bought a new scale... And apparently my old one was off 10 lbs at least. Talk about a bruise to the ego. I am not going to officially weigh in until March first but my first time trying my new scales it says I weigh 167.4 lbs 46 So i just took a whole bunch of steps backwards I feel.

I am still not doing cardio this week because my toes is still sore. I am doing my strength training though so I feel a little bit better about it. This really sucks. I hate feeling like I will never lose weight. Wed, 25 Feb 2009 08:59:51 EST small update on me Sorry I didn't post my measurements. Not much change anyway though.

I broke my toe tuesday which means I have to take some time off of exercising. This sucks too because I just got into my routine and now I have to switch it again. I also found out that my dizziness is related to my blood sugars being off. I have been officially labeled as "pre-diabetic". I am sord of discouraged. Nothing I do seems to be making much of a difference as far as my weight goes. The doc said part of th... Thu, 19 Feb 2009 08:57:24 EST Week 7 progress.. Well it is PMS time again and I feel liek a slob. Someone tell me it is ok to splurge that one time during the month. I am bloated and craving chocolate and feeling tired. YUK. My waist and arm measurements are up this week. The waist I am just gonna assume it is the bloating. The arms may be muscle I dunno. I did lose some inches in my hips and thighs though so YAY for that.

Week 1:
Hips: 41 in
Waist: 34.5 in
Neck: 12.5 in
Thighs: 24.25
Arms: 12
<BR... Sun, 8 Feb 2009 21:33:51 EST Ok so I guess I should remit my entry from yesterday LOL I totally noticed a difference today in my workout. For one thing, it seems that my core muscles are getting much stronger. I have been doing the same zumba DVD since getting back on this train. There were parts where I could do it and keep up but always felt off balance. Tonight I feel like I nailed it. I felt completely in control and it felt really uplifting to be able to do that. I also feel less tired so I think my stamina is building too. So my point is that while I didn't make much pro... Tue, 3 Feb 2009 00:03:46 EST
