Not craving sweets is such a big blessing.

Last evening we purchased a walker for Zofia to use when she gets up in the morning. Yesterday morning she fell in her apartment and laid there for 2 1/2 hours before she was discovered. She seems fine other than that. When we went to check on her Sister Mary Margaret was there at the front desk. She is a former 11-12 gr teacher and raised her two boys on a farm. Just before their 25th... Sat, 28 May 2016 13:52:53 EST Babcia, Getting Closer!, E's last day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6171353 Yesterday I took Jack's mom to the Dr. She has had some symptoms related to her arthritis which are really bothering her. This morning, Jack called her and she did not answer. He called the front desk to check on her. She was found on the floor, too weak to get up. He got her moving again. We are going to look for a cane to assist her in the mornings when she is having a tougher time.

I got on the scale today to find a nice drop! I am 2.1 pounds away from my mid-term goal! ... Fri, 27 May 2016 11:24:15 EST Evening Snacking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6170074 The last couple of nights it has been easy to resist snacking for some reason. I am so grateful! Wed, 25 May 2016 10:42:53 EST DASHing Continues http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6169638 On Monday my husband and I took a day trip to Toledo, OH. We had a very pleasant day of visiting the Libbey glass outlet store, a cathedral, and a famous restaurant called Tony Packo's. I had not heard of it, but it was referred to in the show MASH. They served great Hungarian food. My husband and I each ordered a different specialty and split them. Cabbage rolls and chicken paprikash - good eats!

On our way home we stopped at a Home Goods store - the first he has been to one.... Tue, 24 May 2016 18:29:44 EST Carbs! Thirst! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6167985 Well, I went on a carb binge yesterday and I will be paying for it for a couple of days of weight increases. Being a bit of an addict when it comes to them, I really need to use restraint when eating them, but didn't yesterday.

Upon reflection, I think that I was actually thirsty but used the carbs to try to satisfy my thirst. Need to clean up my act today - more water, no muffins or chips today! Sun, 22 May 2016 08:26:49 EST Hail Mary in Lansing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6167654 Early this morning we drove to Lansing with one of my husband's friends. They took part in a Living Rosary on the steps of the Capitol building at 10 AM. There was a balloon tied to a barrier for each bead of the rosary and as the rosary was prayed the balloon was cut and given to a child. Then at the end the children released the balloons and sent their prayers to heaven. It was a beautiful event on a beautiful morning.

It is already late afternoon and I am not doing so well ... Sat, 21 May 2016 16:09:06 EST Interrupted Sleep / Fran / Girls' Jobs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6166172 I did not get enough sleep. My mother-in-law called at 3:45 this morning because she felt weak. She has started to have a rough time getting up from bed. At age 83 with other health factors it is understandable. The thing is she likes to call my hubby, her only child, at whatever time she feels like it. He went to sleep after about 1/2 hour but I was awake for two full hours. When I did get up I was in the middle of a dream and I am foggy this morning.

Fran called yesterday. ... Thu, 19 May 2016 09:28:33 EST Pretty Morning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6165463 We finally have a pretty morning! There was frost on the rooftops, but it is getting warmer.

Weight is starting to come down after the birthday splurge. I am just 5.2 pounds away from my mid-term goal. I will do some yard work which will get in some fitness activity.

I am mentally working to try to figure out how to better organize our basement, garage and shed. Lots of work has been created due to getting some of my MIL's things.

I am thinking this pretty... Wed, 18 May 2016 09:47:12 EST My Birthday was Memorable http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6164088 I turned over to 56 years old yesterday. That was first time I ever recall it snowing on my birthday! It sounds like it did snow later in May back in 1961. Wow, was that chilly! My mom said Mother Nature was throwing confetti for my "party"!

Our youngest daughter drove up on Saturday and we spent the day planning on how to redecorate the family room. That was fun! Now I have to find the stuff I have envisioned.

On my birthday we went to 8AM Mass at a nearby town. ... Mon, 16 May 2016 11:37:06 EST Sugary Pop http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6162059 A mini success was revealed the other evening when I went to the grocery store and was not even the slightest tempted by the pop aisle. As a self-diagnosed sugar addict, I have long tried to avoid pop, although I frequently succumbed to it. Since I lean toward natural ingredients, I always chose the "healthier" version of the regular recipe as opposed to fake, sugar-free products. A few years ago I realized that the fizz was satisfying and even the sound of the tab popping off brought grea... Fri, 13 May 2016 09:42:37 EST Foggy Brain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6161395 I am foggy this morning after a rather poor night's sleep. I woke up in the night figuring it was probably 4:30 - it was 12:45! I was awake for 2 hours.

Got up early to take the Edge into the dealer again. The door latch is supposed to arrive today. Hope that fixes the electrical problem.

Laundry and then Karen's house today to deliver fabric and thread for the Mission.

Put on .2 lb, still in the lower "decade". Yay! DASH Phase I is working!

Thu, 12 May 2016 09:37:09 EST Goals and Grievances http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6160875 Goals - Well today when I hopped on the scale I finally went below a "decade" of weight. I have not been at this point in about 5 years! Yay!! I am 3.8 pounds away from my next goal which I wanted to meet in only 4 more days. I won't make that date, but I DO plan to make the weight goal.

Grievances - I am dealing with a hassle with our HSA account. A provider underestimated the insurance payout and gave us a refund check for the money we paid out from our HSA.
I offered... Wed, 11 May 2016 13:53:45 EST Spark Streak http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6159990 I realized that on Sunday, May 8, 2016 - Mother's Day, I set a personal best streak of logging on to Spark People for 100 days straight! I had also reduced my weight by 20 pounds. Today I need to get rid of .9 more to reach another goal of being down into another "decade" of weight. My original goal of weighing 225 by May 15th won't be realized, but being within 5 pounds of that goal is great! I'll just set another goal to work on. Tue, 10 May 2016 09:59:45 EST Mother's Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6159470 Yesterday we had a nice Mother's Day with all three girls, my sister and mother-in-law. I didn't have to cook anything! jack and I did put on weight, though. We are back to our DASH phase I plan today. Hoping it will help me get into a lower decade of weight!

Continuing to get things organized around the house. This afternoon will be bills. Mon, 9 May 2016 14:20:33 EST Digging Down http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6158177 My husband is encouraging me to try to get very close to my goal set for May 15th. He suggested that we do a week of DASH Phase 1 again. So, with the exception of Mother's Day, we are going to go back to Phase 1 and see what it does for us. I am wavering with being 19 pounds down and my goal is to be 26 pounds down by that date. I will be happy to be in the 220's - I am SO close, with that mini goal being only .7 lbs away. I plan to meet that goal, but most likely not the 225 goal. All ... Sat, 7 May 2016 11:05:03 EST Moms http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6155803 I had a nice dinner with my mother in law at the Mother's Day Gala at her retirement center. This was after she complained very heavily to my husband this morning that she had to literally crawl to get out of bed.

I also had a not so pleasant 2-hour conversation with my mother in the afternoon.

Overall a stressful day. Didn't have time to eat much and my BP was high.

Ready for a brighter tomorrow! Tue, 3 May 2016 20:51:59 EST New Pants for Hubby http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6154625 I was switching seasonal wardrobes for hubby and I. I asked him to try on some pants to see if they fit. To his delight, he found that pants that were tight at Christmas were all but falling off him! So, we went outlet shopping on Sunday to get him a smaller size. So happy for him! Mon, 2 May 2016 09:37:03 EST Doing Well with DASH http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6152784 I hopped on the scale yesterday and my weight had dropped some. This morning I looked back. This is the least I have weighed in four years! 2011 was a hallmark year for me, and I am looking to weighing less than I did in July of 2011. I am eight pounds from a goal which I did not reach in 2011. I am inspired to reach that goal! Fri, 29 Apr 2016 10:45:23 EST Re-energized Effort http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6149862 My husband and I have been following principles of the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) philosophy since January when dizziness suddenly struck him. I thought there was a chance this was a stroke, but it turned out it was dislodged crystals in his ear. I had read about DASH many years ago and thought it would be a good way to get us to a healthier point.

I have a mini goal of losing 26 pounds by May 15th. I am 18 pounds down with only three weeks remaining. At the... Mon, 25 Apr 2016 09:53:50 EST A Twist with the Sale of Mom In Law's Home http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6148778 Well, things with MIL's house took a turn. We found out at 4:15 PM on Thursday that the house would not be closing at noon on Friday - after the buyer's request on Monday. Our realtor was floored - he has never had anything this late happen in his 26 years of selling. As it was, he had to push to find out this info. The other realtor and broker were not returning his calls when he was trying to set up the final walk-through before closing. It was the title company that let it slip. Soun... Sat, 23 Apr 2016 19:03:52 EST The End of One Journey http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6147121 We have had quite a time since Thanksgiving when we found out that my mother in law (MIL) was accepted to a senior assisted living facility. We moved her in and put her house up for sale. It has been a huge struggle to clear her three bedroom ranch with a full basement and reduce to a one bedroom apartment. She wanted us or our daughters to take most of it - even her undergarments!! We ended up having two garage sales in April - brrr! One of the days even had snow on the ground. Our old... Thu, 21 Apr 2016 09:27:09 EST Trying the DASH way of eating http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6095634 About four weeks ago my husband woke up dizzy. The next day I took him to the Dr. The crystals in his inner ear were displaced and causing the dizziness, but the thought had crossed my mind that it could be stroke causing him to be dizzy. I set out after the Dr visit to start us on the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) way of eating. The first two weeks were very limited and we both lost weight - 10 for him and 8 for me. We are in phase II and trying to make this a true lifes... Sun, 14 Feb 2016 11:21:02 EST Need To Reduce the Sweets Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5697916 I gave up sweets for Lent unless I made them myself. With some recent celebrations - Mother's Day, birthday, graduation, Easter - I've slipped back a bit. The weight is not going in the general direction I want it to. I need to re-focus on fruits and veggies. It is great that all that stuff is coming back into season! Sun, 18 May 2014 21:29:49 EST Beautiful Mother's Day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5692763 My three adult daughters, husband, and I walked through beautiful Dow Gardens in Midland, about an hour away from our home. On the way there I was presented with a new pedometer! I was already wearing a cheaper version, so I wore both for our walk. The new, highly recommended pedometer tracked about 2500 more steps than my old one. I've likely not been giving myself enough credit!

We had dinner in the crockpot and salad in the frig for our return home. After eating, my husband... Sun, 11 May 2014 18:14:29 EST Try, Try Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5691583 So I wrote a nice blog entry a few days ago, but it didn't take. So this time I will be short and hope that it stays! Fri, 9 May 2014 21:47:14 EST Begin Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5686232 5/3/14 6:00 AM My husband and I were motivated by our community's Commit 2 Fit challenge during the month of April. I didn't quite make my goal there, but gave it a good effort. I found that site is a very basic tool for logging types of food, hydration and physical activity. But I discovered that I really like Spark People because it gives me the detailed info about my nutrition that I like to see. So, I entered my intake into SparkPeople then summarized on Commit2Fit. Since that chall... Sat, 3 May 2014 06:33:02 EST Life's a Whirlwind http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4450810 Well, life is in such a whirl. I was given official documentation on August 24th that my job has been eliminated at school due to budget cuts. So, I've started the unemployment process. My goal will be to try to find three jobs a week to apply for. That will mean a lot of time sitting at the computer.
I somehow have to do a better job of balancing SparkPeople time, looking for good and healthy recipes (I love to cook to new things!), seeking employment, spending time with my hubb... Sat, 27 Aug 2011 06:59:18 EST Tough Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4421428 Not to be too wordy -
- I cancelled an interview for a job because they thought I was applying for a job of CFO - I have no interest in that.
- a 49-year-old acquaintance from church died suddenly
- got a call that a credit card had been stopped "due to suspicious activity". It turned out to be our daughter's card and it turned out that all of the purchases were legitimate.
- DH is not feeling well - nausea and constipation
- overslept by an hour (unheard of for me)... Thu, 11 Aug 2011 18:24:00 EST Too Much Social - Not Enough Progress http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4406059 Katy came home Saturday. Since then I've had lots of social things going.
Called Mom and Dad and found out Sis has been contacted by IRS regarding her 401(K) early withdrawal and the penalty involved. YIKES! She's hoping that G&G will take Maizey so that Rob will be able to live at the condo for the last term of college since he was robbed at gun-point three months ago. Chris really needs glasses. G&G will go to P.T. to get them for him if Sis doesn't.
Katy and I met wi... Thu, 4 Aug 2011 04:50:50 EST A Milestone Reached! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4386979 Today I got on the scale, and FINALLY it said 225. It's been a l-o-n-g time since I've seen that weight! I've been slacking on going to the gym because there's so much to do in the summer. Tonight DH and I plan to do two miles with Leslie Sansone. We got back and did one mile on Sunday. Boy, we both could feel it! It was a good reminder that our muscles need to move. I'm planning to meet my Wii goal of 224 about a week early. On Saturday I'll take a walk in the neighborhood with my ne... Tue, 26 Jul 2011 10:01:58 EST Inspired http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4336635 Today I read the blog of a lady my age who has lost 100 pounds in the past year or so. This has inspired me to recommit to myself. I've been tracking my food and am mindful of the quantity I'm consuming - so that's good. I need to get back to a better exercise routine. I have to schedule the time in my day to make it happen. SparkPeople provides so many wonderful tools. My husband and I are benefitting from this wonderful site. I tell people about it whenever I can. Sat, 2 Jul 2011 05:39:26 EST Great surprise! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4271706 Yesterday the scale gave me a great surprise. I'd eaten too much on Memorial Day, but my system had a good clean out and I ended up being down over two pounds.
I'm recommitting to a new goal - to lose about 16 pounds by August 31st. I'm looking forward to needing some new fall clothes! I'm so proud of my husband who just went through his shorts and had to donate half of them since he's dropped two pant sizes!
We're in it together! I wouldn't want it any other way. Thu, 2 Jun 2011 05:29:51 EST New Goal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4186871 It's Easter and that signifies a new beginning and rebirth. I would have won the Big Loser challenge at work had I participated - I lost the most pounds and the biggest percentage! But, I didn't want to pay to participate, so I won in spirit. That's great with me.
I won't make my personal goal of 10% loss by April 30th - I know it wouldn't be healthy to lose the 8 pounds in a week, so I'm tossing the the towel on that one right now. So, on to the next challenge . . . By Memorial W... Sun, 24 Apr 2011 08:36:43 EST
