This morning I tried the Chocolate Granola with a little milk - Excellent! The ingredients aren't bad, either:

Ingredients: ROLLED OATS, RAPESEED OIL, DESICCATED COCONUT, FRUCTOSE, FRUCTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES, DARK CHOCOLATE PIECES (COCOA MASS, SUGAR, COCOA POWDER, SOY LECITHIN), COCOA POWDER, CASHEWS, ALMONDS, PUMPKIN SEEDS, SUNFLOWER SEEDS, GOLDEN LINSEEDS, HAZELNUTS, WALNUTS, COCOA EXTRACT, V... Fri, 19 Sep 2014 21:52:33 EST Diet Chef - Day Three..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5782552 Two big pluses today. First, I found out that I really like Molasses and Pecan Granola! It's yummy! 4 So good, in fact that I didn't even add the strawberries I had allotted for today's breakfast. And it was filling, too. It looks like a small amount, but I am amazed at how much it filled me up, and carried me all the way through to my morning break.....where I ate the strawberries! Put it in a small bowl - makes it look like more...... Here's the ingredients list:
<BR... Thu, 18 Sep 2014 20:18:48 EST Diet Chef - Day Two..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5781861 I've got to get to bed early tonight, but thought I'd report on Day Two of my Diet Chef adventure.

Breakfast was REALLY good! The Fruit and Nut Soft Cookie is like a 3" x 2" oatmeal cookie - about the size of a belt buckle. The bits of dried fruit give it a sweetness, and the nuts are chopped very fine, but you can taste them. I had this with coffee. I really like a snack around 10:30 a.m., so instead of having the suggested fruit at breakfast, I have it then.

I very... Wed, 17 Sep 2014 19:49:56 EST Okay. Time to Try Something New... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5781296 All of us have problems of some sort, and most of us have problems with our relationship with food. We wouldn't be overweight if we didn't. If you're like me, one of the biggest problems is finding something I can live with in a diet program. Let's face it - I need a program in order to lose weight. I can make all the lifestyle changes in the world, but unless I have structure, I'm going to backslide into a size 22! 15

Maybe it's because I have a really stressful... Tue, 16 Sep 2014 23:19:29 EST Sunday - Over Much Too Soon! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5779871 Busy, busy day today! First, breakfast on the patio - So nice! Then off to Wally World to get the dog food and treats.....

Today I had promised my friend and handy man, Tommy, that I would come over and help him with some paperwork. He has two amazing, 15 year old twin sons, and after paperwork, Tommy made us all an amazing lunch!

He also drilled the holes in the piece of the second ladder trellis that the manufacturer had missed - Awesome!

When I got home,... I can work my corpulent ass off on the weekend and love every minute of it, and Saturday and Sunday just seems to fly by!

I think taking care of my home and gardening are a form of therapy for me. I unwind and relax, even though I'm doing much more strenuous work physically than I would ever do at the office.

Friday, I was so tired - I was even too tired to cook, so I ordered pizza for my son and his friend, and had two pieces for supper. And even though I ... Gray morning, a few bright patches of sunshine, and a downpour in the afternoon that would make you thing the bottom fell out of heaven! After breakfast, I spent some time in the garden tilling in compost and getting a few things planted. I managed to plant 4 hills of squash:

<img src="http://photos-... I got some stuff done around my house and dropped my son off at the Flea Market.

Shortly after I got home, my handyman arrived, and off we went to pick up our load of compost from Monterey Mushrooms. I'm not going to elaborate, but just know that I was SO happy to get in my car and drive home.

Last weekend was so nice! I was almost an hour late getting off work, but just the thought of having 3 days off put me in a much improve mood! And today was especially good - It's my son's 27th birthday! We just finished a lovely Chinese takeout dinner (his favorite!), and tomorrow, homemade cake and ice cream when some of his friends come over.

Tomorrow is also "groom the dogs" day - I clipped them really short weekend before last, and now they're get a bath and a proper grooming now that they're easy to manage. I also got some of the garden cleared.

My handy man and I drove all the way to Zellwood to buy compost, only to find a sign saying "No Compost Today" - Bugger!!! I did get a lot done, though.

I slept well, and got up at about 6:30 a.m., and decided to make a loaf of blueberry bread. It's like banana bread, but with a little cinnamon. You don't mash up the berries, but fold them in right before putting the batter in a pan. A slice of that and a cup of coffee made a fine breakfast!

After breakfast, I tackled cleaning up my laundry room/mud room. This room exits onto the p... I went out early and ran some errands, and then stopped at Lowes and bought two large wooden fan trellises.

Last year, I had planted some confederate jasmine along the fence on the side of my property where the new privacy fence was installed. Confederate jasmine has beautiful, dark green leaves and small white flowers that smell ever-so-sweet and spicy in the Spring. I had hoped that it would cover the old chain link fence in a year or so, but as you kno... Mon, 4 Aug 2014 22:03:51 EST Strange Weekend..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5752547 This has been a really strange weekend. First, I wake up on Saturday morning, settle onto my bed with my coffee, and the phone rings. One of my dearest friends asks me to pick her up at her vet's office, because her son has her car. Then she calls in tears to ask me to pick up her younger son (19) and bring him, because they have to put down his dog.

Off I go. I stayed with them and did my best to help them through this - the poor dog was so very sick and needed to be set free.... Sparkies, you have no idea how much I'm looking forward to this!!

Now, understand that my boss will "punish" me for taking this week. Even though we have three weeks of vacation time - the maximum at my job, and my reward for enduring six years of insanity - my boss and his wife make it very clear that it's not at all encouraged. He finds was to torment us for our "betrayal" and she makes it very clear that she thinks it's ... Isn't this supposed to less stressful than Monday? WTF?!!

From the moment I walked in, I was slammed. It was just insane today! So, when I went home on my lunch break, I thought I'd just relax a little, maybe even take a nap, when I got this urge to put a beef roast and carrots in the crockpot. So nice to come home to an easy meal, right? And I am so thankful that I did, because my crazy boss had me on a project that took me until almost 5:30 p.m. to finish. By the ... Unless I'm on vacations or a holiday. Today was one of those days where the only thing you can do is roll with it.

I had to accommodate a client and put my lunch off for almost an hour, but made it home and picked some green beans, okra and tomatoes. Everything but the okra and peppers are almost done for this season, but, as I've said before, August is the season for amending the soil for the Fall planting. I'll most likely cut all these little beau... Mon, 28 Jul 2014 22:33:19 EST Hump Day! I am thankful and grateful for my job - at least I have one.

That said, here's a quick run down of what's happening now. Last night, I canned 3 more pints of tomatoes and two pints of green beans. I think that will be the last of the tomatoes this season, with the exception of a few that will b... Wed, 23 Jul 2014 21:08:59 EST Monday....Good Grief! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5743749 No rest for the weary, my friends. Saturday was a glorious, rain-free day; One of those rare gems of a day that happens in Central Florida in the Summer.

You see, this is our "rainy" season.....Once in a great while, we have a dry spell - the last one of those I remember, was in 1998. For the summer months that should have been rainy, it was dry as a popcorn fart, and we had wild fires everywhere. Some religious idiot in VA said the fires were because the Lord didn't approve of ... The former owner of my house thought it was a good idea to put outdoor carpet on the garage floor, and glued it down. Seemed like a good idea at the time, I'm sure. However, whenever I drive home in a rainstorm, which is most evening during the summer here, the water that drips off the car creates mold and smells. ... Thu, 17 Jul 2014 22:09:41 EST Why Are Weekends So Freakin' Short? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5738255 The "rainy season" is upon us here in Central Florida. That means sunny, beautiful mornings, leading into hot, humid days, culminating into tumultuous thunderstorms when the sea breezes collide in the afternoon! And yes, I said when the sea breezes collide - By mid to late afternoon, the sea breeze coming in from Atlantic collides with the sea breeze from the Gulf coast, and more often than not, they meet over the "I-4 corridor".....Central Florida.

It's not too bad when it happe... Sun, 13 Jul 2014 23:54:13 EST Don't Worry - I'm Still Here! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5729420 I know - It's been a while since I blogged. Honestly, I've just been REALLY busy!

My garden has been taking up a lot of my time. I started seeds for the Spring/Summer garden in December, and started planting in February. Of course, I still had a lot of things still growing, and had some really good harvests, all of which needed preserving. So far, I've canned carrots, beets, tomatoes and green beans - the latter two last weekend.

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeop... I got a bunch done in the house on Friday, and all the grocery shopping done. And the laundry, and an assortment of other inside jobs accomplished.

Saturday, it was dry enough to pull out all of the old lettuce plants - I have saved a few flower tops - they are drying in my shed. I will harvest the seeds for next year. The heavy rain Friday night snapped off one of my pepper plants, so now there are eight. I'll most likely pla... I was up before 7:00 a.m. and off to the farm store by 8:00 a.m.! I managed to get 12 large tomato cages and a bale of straw for mulching in my little Honda Accord. I swear, the guys at that store get the biggest kick out of watching me put stuff in my car!

So, I get back home and my son helps me unload the car.......What's up?......He needs a ride to the Flea Market, so off we go. Last weekend, we got lots of sunshine, and with it comes gardening - The spinach, broccoli and beets were at their end, so time for cleaning up, preping the soil for new veggies, and planting Spring crops.

Here in Central Florida, our gardens transition from Winter to Spring in a matter of weeks. Our Winter is more like Fall in the northern states, so Fall-like weather slides into Spring and the whole process takes about two weeks. So I have the remnants of my Fall/... Thu, 20 Mar 2014 23:01:00 EST A Lovely Dinner Surprise..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5646399 Tonight I made a lovely turkey meatloaf, and decided to have some kale from the garden. I noticed that one of the Yukon Gold potato plants was turning color - a sure sign that new potatoes are waiting to be unearthed, and Voila! That one small plant produced seven good-sized beauties! So....I pulled a few carrots, too. Add a little onion, salt and pepper to the pot, and when everything is done I'll have a sort of colorful colcannon!

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeople.com/n... Enough said.

This evening, I cut some fresh collard greens from the garden and cooked them with some onion and chicken sausage - Amazing! Add a little sprouted grain toast and voila! Today was absolutely awesome - One of those perfect days full of sun, cool breezes and plenty of time to be outside in the garden!

My friend, Tina, came by early and helped me get the shopping out of the way. By 10:30, we were harvesting beets. If you've never grown them, it's really not hard - you just pull them up and shake the dirt off of them! I decided to pickle this batch, so after harvesting, I cut the greens off and scrubbed the bee... Good grief! Now I have the worst cold - Bugger!

My head feels like someone stuffed it with cotton, and my throat feels like I swallowed glass. I've been sleeping most of the day. I've been waiting for my tax refund to hit my bank, and one of the things I had budgeted for was a new sofa. My old one was really beat up, and it had to go! So, I found one at American Freight here in Sanford, for $530.00, delivered - a really nice one with a reversible ottoman that supports a lounge section.

Leave it to my buddy, Tricia, who finds me awesome deals! She called me yesterday to tell me that she was at the Habita... Mon, 17 Feb 2014 23:24:03 EST Rainy Day Again Today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5618768 Today, by Florida standards, is cold and rainy. I know - All you Sparkies up north would most likely relish a rainy day with a high of 56 degrees today, but to me, it's cold. I've even got the heat on - set at 72!

But I have to say this: Even when it's cold and rainy, it's still beautiful here! I guess that's why I love it!

And my garden seems to really like this cold rainy day!
<... Forgive me for not blogging sooner, but honestly, I got tired of posting pretty much the SOS every day. And then, I got BUSY!

First, I bought a treadclimber in December, but it made an awful noise when I used it. Nautilus sent out a repair person and a part that they thought would fix it, but the Tech determined that the base must have been dropped and was bent, so they had to order another base unit. This... Wed, 5 Feb 2014 22:02:39 EST Ah! Wonderful Weekend! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5591586 This was one of those great weekends that only a home-body-gardener would love!

Saturday morning started out grey, but gradually gave way to sunshine and temperatures in the 80's. Most of the Yukon Gold potatoes that I planted have sprouted - some are up about 8 inches; many others are just peeking up into the daylight! Sun, 12 Jan 2014 20:00:57 EST Thurday! Done! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5588454 Sorry I've been "missing in action" for a couple of days. Things have been hectic, and with my commitment to myself to get some exercise everyday, I've been too tired to blog. It's getting better - I'm making appointments with myself, and sticking to them. So far - So good!

Sometimes I just amaze myself. It occurred to me that I'd save a bunch of time if I used my crockpot a little more, so I put a chicken and carrots in it this morning. I put on some rice to steam, exercised... Seriously!

One thing I really hate is having to do things over. Everyone makes mistakes, and little ones are okay, but when I have to reset depositions because I've been asking for a check to get the subpoenas issued for two weeks, and now, we don't have time to properly serve them, well, that just chaps my ass!

Tonight is supposed to be really cold here. It's been a really productive and nice weekend, though. As you know from yesterday's blog, I got a lot of gardening done.

Today, I gave myself a break and relaxed a while. I made breakfast (oatmeal!) and lounged around until about 11:30 a.m., and then did about 1/2 hour of hilling up in the garden. I also, drum roll please, did a full 30 minutes on my Treadclimber today! Woohoo! After that, I went to visit my friend, Trisha, for co... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 18:54:22 EST Somehow, Tired Feels Good After a Day of Gardening.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5582386 Seriously. I'm whupped, but it's a really good tired. I spent over two hours today weeding, thinning, and planting. I primarily used a stirrup hoe for the weeding - it makes short work of new weeds, and is so much more accurate than using a regular hoe. Don't worry, now. The regular one got a workout, too, when I planted two more rows of potatoes - 1 row of white; one row of red.

I managed to weed t... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 21:55:25 EST My Love/Hate Relationship with EXERCISE! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5581316 "Just Do It!" Yeah, right. I've been taking on exercise programs since high school, and I'm actually more consistent with exercising now! 234

I know, I know! Exercise releases endorphins and makes you feel better! Yes, it does! So how come it's so bloody hard to do this every day? Or every other day, for that matter? Sometimes I love it. Sometimes. Most times, I really hate it. I can't figure out if exercise one of the most hated things I know, or if it's ... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 22:25:32 EST Thursday - Not Exactly a Cake Walk Today..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5580114 The day after a holiday or time off is always horrible where I work. Always. Sometimes I think it's a conspiracy......

It was so dark when I woke up this morning - It was 7:00 a.m. and looked pitch black outside. As the sun rose, I realized how foggy it was. About noon, the front that brought yesterday's rain finally moved through, but by 1:00 p.m., here comes another one! This one is moving rather fast - rain, clouds and when it goes through, the temperature is going to drop.... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 22:44:49 EST Happy New Year! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5578378 For some reason, I woke up around 5:00 a.m. this morning - No noise. No one in the yard. All four dogs sleeping. I tried to go back to sleep, and got up at 6:00. It gets so tedious trying to go back to sleep! Maybe it was just too quiet!

So, up I got. Made coffee and Bob's Red Mill hot cereal, and simply relaxed into the morning. It was raining when I got up, and the light rain continues now. So peaceful and good for my garden. I hope it's nice this weekend, because days... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 18:31:59 EST Goodbye 2013..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5577090 Looking back over this past year, even with all the political BS and economy sagging, I have to say that overall, I have so much to be thankful and grateful for!

I have my son, my pups, my home and my friends. We have food, lights, heat and a/c. We have a car that runs, and tools that work. We have a wonderful fall garden that amazes me on a daily basis. And so many other things to give thanks for. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Today, I had poached eggs, ham and ... Tue, 31 Dec 2013 20:08:16 EST AAAHHH.....Day Off Tomorrow and Wednesday..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5575923 So glad today is over! Two days off this week - Yay!

So far, I've stayed within my calorie limits today, and managed a 15 minute walk. I'm slowly building up to more exercise, but I know myself - too much, too soon, and I'll burn out and won't do it at all. Baby steps are better than no steps.

Dinner tonight was a compilation of left over ham, rice, green peppers and black beans, with a light accent topping of cheddar cheese - Yum!

So....maybe I deserve a w... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 18:56:22 EST Grey and Rainy Saturday..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5574140 Two things about Florida I really like: 1) It's green and pretty, even when it rains in the Winter, and 2) I never have to shovel "partly cloudy" out of my driveway!

Yes, the sky was grey and it rained on and off today, but my garden was green and I had much to keep me busy inside. I was up before sunrise - first, preparing the dough for pasta, and while it rested for an hour, I made my pie, finished my pasta sauce, and prepared the cheese filling for the lasagna. And went to th... Sat, 28 Dec 2013 22:05:29 EST AAAHHHH! Friday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5573354 A rather hectic day, but a good one. Busy morning - Then home at 1:00 p.m. to meet the Dan the A/C guy. I am so thankful for Angie's List! I never would have called this company out of the phone book, but they are a top, "A" rated company on Angie's List. This is my second good experience with them. The first guy could very easily have told me that I needed a whole new A/C unit, and I'd have believed him. All that was wrong was a condenser. This time, it needed coolant and a line clea...
