Yesterday, was a holiday, so no banking, no contact with the office.

I did start planning my Spring garden, and managed to make the beef ravioli that I wanted to make. The day started office like most of them lately. Coffee, tend to the chickens, make breakfast, tackle a project or two, supervise the girls for an hour before dark, make supper, feed the dogs, relax and go to bed. I know - most people would find this a boring ... Tue, 17 Jan 2017 21:08:53 EST Work....Definitely a Four-Letter Word..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6298170 As I've said before, I really need to work for another two and a half years in order to get enough Social Security to make my bills without a room-mate. Being out of work for four months is not helping my situation, so now, I'm starting to do some serious looking.

That doesn't mean that I'm taking anything. I want to work close enough to come home for lunch, and that means less opportunities and lower pay, but honestly, what good will it be to make more money if I'm commuting for... Sat, 14 Jan 2017 19:37:06 EST Another Interesting Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6296729 So far, it's been busy - Old friends calling and texting, and chores getting done. I decided to wait until after 1:00 to even think about putting the girls in the flip-coop. Two reasons for that: 1) When I go back to work, I won't get home until after 1:00 pm, and 2) It gives them the entire morning to lay eggs if they're so inclined. Of course, I will most likely need to put a nesting box in the flip-coop, too, as many chickens lay their eggs in the afternoon!

As promised, he... Thu, 12 Jan 2017 13:09:39 EST Interesting Day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6296215 Today was truly interesting. After breakfast, I decided to do some much-needed gardening. Between being sick and the cold weather, the garden got a bit neglected.

Of course, first I picked a couple of kale and collard leaves for the girls, who were very vocal this morning. Since the sprinklers had gone off last night, I thought it would be a good day to start letting them work the soil. Chickens are great gardener's helpers - They eat weeds, weed seeds, bugs, bug eggs, larva, g... Wed, 11 Jan 2017 19:56:16 EST First Egg!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6295192 OMG!! Well. They certainly were noisy little buggers today! More than usual, and even more so when I came in. My son went outside to give them a treat, and then comes in all excited - one of them, probably Bridgett, laid her first egg! It's small - first eggs usually are - but they will get larger as the birds mature.

The best part was the look on James' face as he held that... Yes, my Sparkie friends, I lit the pilot light Sunday, and put the heat on. It was 63 degrees in the house, and my bones hurt!!

My son and I admit that we are wussies when it comes to cold weather. The chickens don't seem to mind it at all, and are really pissed at us for not spending time with them in the evening! If you've ever been scolded by a chicken, you know what I'm talking about! Yesterday, it got warm enough to ... Tue, 10 Jan 2017 07:31:17 EST I Made It Up the Ladder! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6292822 Whew! Busy day again today! I not only made it up the ladder and removed the old, useless TV mount, but I installed the new one and mounted the TV! Woohoo!

Afterwards, I cleaned my room and put the tools away.

Tricia came by for coffee just as I got finished with my room. Didn't Quite Make it Up the Ladder.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6292140 LOL, another long day! Up at 5:30 a.m., cleaned, vacuumed, made cookies. Weeded a little more.....did laundry.....Visited with a friend, and enjoyed my day!

Never did make it out to the garage for that ladder and drill.....I suppose that can wait until tomorrow.....

TTFN - Thu, 5 Jan 2017 20:08:15 EST Long Day Today - Cleaned My Closet! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6291425 Now that I'm feeling better, I've been making an effort to tackle at least one project each day. Today, I cleaned my bedroom closet. It's amazing how much crap can accumulate in a walk-in closet! I'm also bagging up things that I haven't worn in over a year for the Salvation Army - I think I'm a border-line hoarder!! Three bags and two boxes so far.
.
It rained buckets last night, so I managed to pull a few weeds, harvest some greens, thin another row of carrots and put the girl... Wed, 4 Jan 2017 20:05:54 EST Gray Day..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6290337 There is a cold front heading our way, and today is a gray, cloudy, maybe-rainy day. It's raining in the counties north of us, but only "maybe" here. Thank goodness I have a well for my sprinkler system, or I'd have a dust-bowl for a lawn and garden! It's been dry as a popcorn fart here!

As some of you know, my last live-in BF infested my house with German cockroaches. I've been battling them since 2011, and even had a pest control company treat for them. These bugs are the s... Tue, 3 Jan 2017 11:25:37 EST Still Fighting this Miserable Cold! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6287655 Criminy!! I had a cold over Thanksgiving, and a worse one over Christmas! I guess the Universe just wants me to get them over with. Believe me, I'd rather have a cold now, and not in the summer time. I do believer I've got it on the run, though. I still have congestion and a cough, but it's not near so bad as last week, and I'm sleeping very well.

I've been staying away from friends during this time. I had a low-grade fever last week, and yesterday and today, my temperature w... It's wonderful to just be able to rest, hydrate and let the cold run its course. It would have been nice, though, to have been able to invite a friend or two to share our Christmas dinner, but hopefully, we can do that next year.
<B... Mon, 26 Dec 2016 12:25:45 EST Got My Side-Hustle On..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6281359 Sorry for being MIA, but I've been like a one-armed paper hanger.

First, my Sparkie friends, my unemployment is coming to an end, and there are no extensions. Ms. Retired Army was finally admitted to the Bar, but until the business is making enough, consistent money, I'm still in limbo. You folks know me better than that - I'll be finding some place to work in January, regardless.

In the meantime, I'm doing my best to make ends meet. So far, so good! If you didn't kn... Thu, 15 Dec 2016 15:43:06 EST Wish the Days Were Longer! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6269132 Criminy! I wish I could live off of what I’d get for Social Security right now – Believe me, I’ve been considering filing, but I really need the $300 more per month I’ll get at age 65.

I’ve got friends who go absolutely stir-crazy at home – Not me. I can always either find something that needs to be done, a new project to start, a movie to watch, or I can take a nap. Life at home is never boring for me!

I spent some time visiting with Ms. Retired Army yesterday. Sh... I swear, I have had the worst cold ever. But then, every time I get a cold, it's like the worst cold ever! This one is just miserable. My friend who had come to visit a couple of weekends back, had started coming down with a cold, and James and I came down with it a few days later. We're still getting over it! Such is life, though.

Before the cold hit, I did manager to plant 8 rows of carrots. I've been only doing what I have to around the house... Fri, 11 Nov 2016 21:23:23 EST Busy, Busy, Busy! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6260518 Whew! This past few weeks have been crazy busy! The best part of being off work right now is it's a perfect time to work on my garden. I've never had the opportunity to get this much done in so short time before!

Right before the hurricane, I had planted some beans, corn, and had just planted cabbage, kale, collard greens and broccoli. The storm wiped out the corn, and it's too late to plant it now. The bean were up about 4 to 6 inches and got FLATTENED. LOL, I've gotten some... Tue, 1 Nov 2016 20:00:11 EST Feeling Thankful! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6256031 You know, sometimes we just have to stop and give thanks for the things we have. This past couple of weeks, I have been trying my best to do just that!

It's been two weeks since hurricane Matthew hit. My driveway is still covered in debris, but one of the city commisions posted that the City has contracted with a company to begin removing the ever-increasing piles of downed limbs and stuff.

The weather has been wonderful, too! At first, we got some bands off of Nicol... Sun, 23 Oct 2016 20:48:22 EST Not Bad for a Monday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6253147 This weekend, I spent as much time as I could outside in the yard and garden. I can only rake for a while, and then I have to be mindful of my back, and now, I have to be mindful of the plantar fasciatis in my left foot. So, I rake a while; then I rest. Garden a while. Rest a while. Life is good. 334

My friend, Tina, spent the weekend with me. She's a hot mess - I keep trying to get her to wake up and do something for herself, but she just can't seem to get out ... Mon, 17 Oct 2016 20:34:55 EST Working Girls..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6251614 The girls are big enough now that I don't worry about them encountering the odd non-poisonous snake, so I decided to let them begin the job of improving the garden. I have an area behind the shed that borders the garden with great soil, and with a little help from my chickens, should be pretty much pest-free by the time I plant carrots in November. If you've never been around chickens, know that they can completely strip an area of all vegetation, grubs, slugs, bugs, etc., in no time. Fri, 14 Oct 2016 19:23:15 EST Holy flying !@#$!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6251607 I'm going to have to go back to work to get some rest! This week has been insane! Most of it, the really good kind of insane, but I've been like a one-armed, paper hanger with a case of the hives!

Monday and Tuesday were spent cleaning up the yard....and I still have stuff to do! Mount Deadfall is getting bigger and bigger, and I'm wondering when the County is going to pick this stuff up!

<img src="http://photosaws.sparkpeople.com/guid/e67be47f-df2c-4c86-bde2-656ec91... Fri, 14 Oct 2016 19:16:34 EST Blustery Day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6249489 The weather today was breezy, and unseasonably cool. Sixties this morning; high 70's this afternoon - Absolutely lovely! Overcast, but no rain.

My poor body was sore from raking yesterday, so I decided to give myself a break - It will still be there when I get to it! The garden area had dried out enough that I could actually walk in it. My poor beans got flattened! Literally flattened. And because the ground was so wet, I couldn't even get in there until today. Poor, little ... Mon, 10 Oct 2016 18:01:10 EST Almost Back to Normal..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6249171 I just wanted to let everyone know that all is well here. My cable and internet jcame back up late yesterday, and almost everyone in my area has power now. I just found out that the hurricane has effected some parts of Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia - I am praying that you and yours are all okay.

We never lost power for more than a minute or two, but we did lose cable and internet on Friday when the storm was at its worst. Mon, 10 Oct 2016 06:49:54 EST Our First Look..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6249162 This is our first time outside - Hurricane Matthew was now around Jacksonville, so we were still getting rain bands. Yikes! All these branches are from my big camphor tree. It's not near as shady back there now. Just a mess, but no damage to the house or outbuildings. We are very blessed! Mon, 10 Oct 2016 06:29:14 EST Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season....... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6246920 Life in Central Florida is always interesting, that's for sure! Hurricane season runs from June through November. Sometimes we get one. Sometimes, like in 2004, we get three, back to back. Either way, it's just something that happens here on occasion. Right now, we are looking at Hurricane Matthew skirting our coast, or worse, moving east and impacting us inland. So far, I've been through a tornado 1998 that killed 12 of my neighbors and missed my house by about 300 feet, and direct hit... Wed, 5 Oct 2016 18:14:18 EST Awesome Day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6244293 Today has been so awesome! No phone calls, no texts, I actually got in an hour nap this morining!

It's so hard for me to just relax sometimes. Today, I had coffee on the patio and enjoyed the sunrise; refreshed my chicken's bedding, did a little housework, and baked some old fashioned gingerbread cookies! As you can see, there are 36 cookies cooling on these racks. James and I ate 13 cookies!! I had six, with a short glass of milk and they were yummy!

<img src="htt... Yesterday evening, I wrote a really nice, long blog......And it freakin' vanished!!! 234 Criminy! So help me, I will never draft one on the Sparkpeople site again. I find that if I draft it in MS Word or some other program and cut and paste it into the SP site, I don't lose it.

I also got the night brace in for my plantar fasciitis, and it really does seem to help. Let's see if maybe I can start walking more next week.

So..... Tue, 27 Sep 2016 18:43:27 EST There's No Place Like Home.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6238668 I can honestly tell you that plantar fasciitis sucks. It's painful, hard to heal, and frustrating. It's especially hard for me because I have so much to do!!! I've taken the week off from walking, because it's aggravating the !@#$ out of it. I've got a night spint ordered and I've been icing it and taking ibuprophen. From what I'm finding out, that, and rest, is about all I can do for it. Bugger!

So, I'm getting up early and doing my best to do whatever I can without stressin... First, I allowed myself to sleep today. Until 7:00! Booya!!

I'm giving my plantar fasciitis a rest this week, and I think it's helping. It still hurts, but not as badly, and I haven't had to take any ibuprophen today. It really blows that I can't walk, but I think it will pay off in the long run. I'm going to try a morning walk on Saturday and see how I do. If it seems to aggravate it, I'll go see my chiropractor. I'm probably out of balanc... Thu, 15 Sep 2016 18:28:10 EST Another Rainy Morning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6235117 I had to cut my walk short this morning - we are getting rain bands off of an invest area in the Atlantic, and that going to make for a wet week with rain off and on. I really hate this - I'd rather it rain and get it over with! Bugger!

At least I got almost 2 miles in - I'll have to try for the rest of it later today. Today will be filled with working on my website, cleaning projects and preparing something awesome for dinner. LOL, I started a marinara sauce a little while ago... Tue, 13 Sep 2016 10:37:08 EST The Portable Run http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6234772 This is what I spent yesterday asembling - A "Flip-Coop" that I'm using as a portable run. Like I told Mama Bear, I'm really glad I decided to raise peeps, even though it will be months before we see the first egg, because grown chickens would be much more difficult to tame and handle. These girls have gotten so used to my son and I picking them up that they actually come to us and allow it. We get a little protesting, but they really don't mind. They do seem to enjoy the new freedom! Mon, 12 Sep 2016 19:19:29 EST BUSY Sunday - Whew!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6234225 Yesterday, I worked my butt off getting my yard work done. Well, most of it. The girls are doing great! I spent today putting together a portable run for them so they can forage in the yard and garden. I need to put another coat of paint on it, and install a roosting bar, but other than that, it's done! James insisted on putting the girls in it for a little while - first time in their lives that they've had that much space! He didn't realize how well they can fly, either! I'll be clipp... By mid-morning, however, the clouds began to roll in, bringing off and on rain.....Bummer!

But I have been enjoying these four wonderful days off, more than anyone could know! I've seen some friends and today, touched base with my friend, Starr. I've gardened and mowed between rain showers, and napped during the worst of them, and now, I have to start steeling myself to go to work tomorrow. Y'all know it's not the wo... Mon, 5 Sep 2016 18:55:11 EST What an Awesome Day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6229525 So far, it's been a wonderful day! I got my grocery shopping done, the dead-falls picked up (gifts from the Tree Goddess!), the coop cleaned, and got to spend a little time on the patio.

I came inside because the clouds were coming in - Another rain band from Hermine. They don't last very long - a little wind, and a large dump of rain, and it's done. It was great timing, because I had just introduced the girls to their "big-girl" feeder, so I can slowly ease the little one out o... Sat, 3 Sep 2016 13:23:31 EST Hurricane Hermine.....Please Stop Worrying!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6229340 I know everyone gets worried every time we get a tropical storm in the Gulf or Atlantic. I get emails and messages with people thinking the worst, and the truth is, even the worst storms we've had here in Central Florida are not devastating like Katrina was in New Orleans. Even in 2004 with direct hits from Charlie, Frances and Jean, we had power outages, some standing water, some roof damage, and lots of boredom. Most times, we don't even lose power or internet! This was the worst of it. Sat, 3 Sep 2016 08:08:18 EST Who Would Have Thought?... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6227320 Tuesday.....At Work.......Sucks......

The chicks are doing really well. As I said last time, I decided to transition them to their coop on Sunday, because the black racer that lives under one of my sheds was getting too close for comfort. Man, do they LOVE the run! They scratched for bugs, took dirt baths, and ran around all day! Only problem was, they wouldn't go up into the hen house, and they need to be protected a little better than in just the run. So James pulls them out ... Tue, 30 Aug 2016 20:16:39 EST Another Too Short Weekend...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6226465 Another short weekend. Dang! I swear, I can't wait to be two years older just so I can either work part time or just stay home! Pretty darn pitiful when you can't wait to get older, huh!

This weekend was spent doing some things around the house, shopping for groceries (the usual Saturday morning chore), a trip to Lowes with my son, and acclimating the "girls" to the great outdoors.

First thing, I have been trying just to maintain my weight loss for the past two months... My co-worker is still not feeling well, and once again, I'm here alone. LOL, I actually seem to get more done! Ms. Retired Army should be in soon and Mr. Boss is at a sentencing. I love it when Ms. Retired Army is here - She's very good at giving direction to the work we do, and lately has taken to coming out and sitting in my area. We work very well together! It's also nice when she does that if my co-worker is here........ Fri, 26 Aug 2016 09:42:04 EST Just Another Day is Paradise...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6224279 Criminy! Absolutely one of those days. My co-worker called in sick this morning and both Mr. Boss and Ms. Retired Army are in depositions in Orlando. Nothing I can't deal with, but it means fielding all of my co-worker's needy family law clients.....All I can do is take a message, because I'm not going to 1) listen to their sad tales of ain't it awful, and 2) I can't help them. My co-worker makes the mistake of talking to them for hours about all the horrible things going on between them ... My co-worker sent a text this morning saying she'll be late...... 41

I'm to the point where the quiet is actually soothing, but I find that I start steeling myself for when Mr. Boss or my co-worker. I'm keeping my attitude positive, despite the fact that Ms. Retired Army has strep throat and won't be in this week. Truly, "Ain't so sunshine when she's gone"! Mr. Boss just get more demanding and pretty much disrupts the entire office.

I think I mentioned that my co-worker and her 24 year old son works here. Work has been just a wonderful, drama-filled cupcake full of cr*p! So, I'm taking a break. I wrote a nice long blog Sunday night that disappeared completely! Bugger! 234

My "peeps" are doing well so far. They're feisty little buggers! I have learned that Barred Rocks are a bit more aggressive than the Rhode Island Reds, and they are. Work has definitely been a four letter word this past two weeks. You'll be so proud of me! I have not choked my co-workers or maimed my boss!

I've also taken on another project.....Like I need another one, right? Last weekend, I ordered a chicken coop that will most likely arrive today or Monday, and today I purchased four "peeps" - Two Rhode Island Reds, and two Barred Rocks. They are in a make-shift brooder in my laundry room, doing fine. I supposed because the d... Sat, 13 Aug 2016 11:58:55 EST Pickles! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6207811 As I told y'all in a previous blog, I had the good fortune to purchase 50 lbs of pickling cucumbers. I sampled a pickle yesterday, and at the 3 week mark, my Kosher-style dills were ready!

Last night, I processed and canned 7 1/2 jars of spears and halves.

Behind the quart jars are the hamburger dills in pints that I'd previously processed, and here's what's left of ... Wed, 27 Jul 2016 19:49:15 EST Today, I Wanted Pasta..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6205470 You know, sometimes you get a craving for something, and with a little effort, there you are! Today, I decided it was a good day to make meatballs, sauce and pasta.

Have you ever made your own pasta? I mean, mixing real Seminolia flour with eggs, salt, water and olive oil, kneading it until it's elastic, letting it rest for an hour, and putting that wonderful dough through a hand-crank pasta maker? If you haven't, I highly recommend doing it!

I started my sauce when I... Sat, 23 Jul 2016 17:25:57 EST Happy Friday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6205055 Well. Here I am at work again - Just another wonderful Friday. Yay.

Wednesday, my co-worker's son came in, and after he was here in the office for about an hour, coughing his head off, told us that EVERYONE at his father's house (he has 5 children under 13) had the flu - Now he has a fever and is coughing all over us. PERFECT. My co-worker grabs the Lysol and tells him to go home.

Yesterday, my co-worker texts me that she has a fever of 102. I tell her to go to the ... Fri, 22 Jul 2016 20:38:07 EST July is Just Flying By...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6202453 Why do weekends have to be so short?!!! Just when I get everything done that HAS to be done, it's Sunday evening, and I'm getting ready for the next workday. Criminy!!

These last couple of weeks have been a big whirlwind of work. Since my last blog, I've had weekend company, more drama (BCC) at work than I care to elaborate on, and finished up the last 15 or so pounds of cucumbers by making hamburger dill chips the "quick" way with a hot vinegar brine.

This weekend wa... Mon, 18 Jul 2016 09:26:08 EST Mixed Blessings...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6195782 Well. Yesterday, I got a call from my favorite produce stand owner, letting me know that they had just gotten in a bushel of beautiful, fresh pickling cucumbers. I have a couple of places that let me know when something really good comes in, and pickling cucumbers are something you rarely find in supermarkets here. What else could I do - I got the entire bushel. In layman's terms, that's 50 lbs of cucumbers......Woohoo!........ 104 That I have to process and put up......wooho... Wed, 6 Jul 2016 09:58:06 EST Stress. Bugger!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6189617 I honestly do believe that my back ache is caused primarily by stress. It's like the "Karma Chameleon" - It comes and goes! 40

Funny, but it was pretty much gone until I went back to work on Friday. Now, it's better. Still "twingy" but better. I may make another trip to the chiropractor if it's not gone by next week.

Other than that - I've walked both days, and had no trouble. As a matter of fact, my back is better after I walk. 104 My... Sat, 25 Jun 2016 21:56:20 EST Not Much Is Worse Than A Back Ache! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6188375 Since last Sunday, I have had the most annoying and frustrating back ache!! Bugger!!

I walked my regular morning walk Monday, and by the time I got home from work that evening, I was really hurting - Couldn't get comfortable no matter what position I was in - lower back and upper glutes in knots!

So Tuesday, I stayed home. My back was worse than ever, and I thought if I rested, it would be better on Wednesday. Not so - Worse than ever! This morning I got woke up wi... Thu, 23 Jun 2016 17:25:52 EST
