Absolute last is 9/13. There will be hair by Christmas! Although it looks like I may have lost my silver. All of the remaining stubble is dark brown. We'll see. Now I have the followup appointments with other doctors and the new doctors to consult as we forge ahead. One of which is a dietitian because my eating is currently all over the map.

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 07:52:23 EST Moving Forward - Eating is weird http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6211477 I'm now over half way through chemo, white counts still good energy levels okay except the 3rd & 4th day after chemo which I'm calling good. My appetite varies from non-existent to ravenous once it kicks in again.

The problem is my taste is off and rice pudding, tapioca, yogurt, sweet potatoes and potatoes are what is easiest to eat. I've identified various fruits and veggies that I can eat and it is an odd assortment. Mangoes always good, blueberries good, broccoli and cauli... Wed, 3 Aug 2016 10:08:38 EST Chemo hair begone http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6187379 I'm currently rocking a natural hair style best described as mangy hedgehog. Most people evidently lose their hair after the second round of chemo, I didn't wait. More than usual was coming out the 2nd Tuesday and Wednesday I bought my wig. (lovely thing, shoulder length and looks like my own hair with highlights). Thursday I washed my hair and was blow drying like usual. Big mistake do not blow dry your hair when large amounts of it are falling out. I must have created a whirlwind of ... Wed, 22 Jun 2016 06:48:11 EST Okay so this isn't so bad http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6174920 Started chemo on Tuesday. First good news its only a 6 dose regimen over 18 weeks. So I may have my own hair back for Christmas. I didn't have any of the bad reactions at the first dose and the nausea is minimal. Best described as hangover with morning sickness. Now I'm just sort of hungover. Haven't worked hungover for at least 20 years but I think I can get back in the knack. Only other side effect is the neuropathy (tingly fingers). I sit most of the day at a computer and I now h... Thu, 2 Jun 2016 06:33:02 EST 2016 isn't half way through and I'm ready for it to be over http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6170775 This year started with a cancer diagnoses and the death of my beloved step-father (papa). So far I've had 3 biopsies, lumpectomy and resection and installed the port for chemo. Chemo starts 5/31. I have 4 to 5 months of chemo then radiation.

I have gained weight and at one point hit 250 (yet another number I swore I'd never make it to) Beyond the stress its difficult to exercise or eat right when procedures mean fasting for 6 to 12 hours prior then no exercise for 3 to 5 da... Thu, 26 May 2016 12:32:45 EST Nov 4 - Fall is here http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6026462 Loving the crisp mornings, not so much the drive home in the dark. Starting a walking challenge because my knee is still recovering and I'm not allowed back on the elliptical yet. It also gets me out of doors during lunch so I actually do get to see the sun. Looking forward to mom and papa visiting at the end of the month. Wed, 4 Nov 2015 07:36:01 EST Sept 8 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5993278 And its a good news and bad news kind of day. I twisted my knee during our beach vacation. Evidently if you're old enough to order off the senior menu at Bob Evan's you shouldn't be chasing ghost crabs on the beach. I did my usual rest, ice and it will get better and walked as much as I was able. This was evidently a mistake. When mobility got much worse on Saturday I finally went to a doctor. My knee is sprained, I'm in a brace and I'm not supposed to be walking. At least it shou... Tue, 8 Sep 2015 09:05:28 EST And the count down begins 8 days http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5956250 In just 8 days we fly out to Geneva and meet up with our exchange student. From there we're going to Rome, Venice, Verona and Pisa. We're doing a tour (Just like the ones I said I'd never do) with a coach bus and fellow tourists. Most of the tours we have planned involve walking, lots of walking on mainly cobble stone roadways. I'm currently training like I'm in a mini marathon so I'm ready for the walking. Mon, 6 Jul 2015 08:41:21 EST Spring! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5894492 I always feel so much more energized when spring arrives. (Although I'm still grumpy because of the time change). The snow if finally melted and I don't have the excuse of its too cold to go outside. It might be muddy but mud washes off.

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 09:18:26 EST A Good Week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5864335 For the past 6 years I considered my self depressed but functional. This was an improvement over the previous 2 where I was depressed and barely functional. This is the first week since 2008 where I've felt energetic and positive for the entire week not just a day or a few hours. I attribute that to the time I've spent on Sparkpeople initially trying to lose weight and then when the weight wasn't budging trying to implement some healthier habits. So I'm now sleeping regularly. I'm e... Wed, 28 Jan 2015 09:10:38 EST New Favorite Thing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5849322 As part of trying to find new things to pack for lunch I found the Nourish Bowl. Essentially a salad on steriods. The basic recipe is
2 cups salad greens (preferably dark)
1 serving of a healthy fat (avocado, pumpkin seeds, nuts)
1 serving of healthy protein (lean chicken, fish, beans, tofu)
1 serving of a carb (sweet potato, quinoa, rice, barley )
Assorted other veggies or fruit that take your fancy

This has resulted in the Veggie Mango chutney ... Thu, 8 Jan 2015 09:21:43 EST Almost the New Year http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5840525 Just got back from Christmas with the in laws. My mother in law makes a killer light fruitcake. Light as in the opposite of dark. She makes this cake in late October, it then gets wrapped in cheese cloth and doused with brandy every week. It is decadent and the standard recipe makes a huge fruit cake. This year I had my one piece and I have a bunch in the freezer. I'm going to be discovering bits of Christmas all year long.

We went to Williamsburg, VA for a short family va... Mon, 29 Dec 2014 11:26:50 EST Thanksgiving! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5825645 Okay I love Thanksgiving. Its the only holiday where there's 1/2 a dozen veggies on the table at once because you wouldn't want the turkey to get lonely. We had stuffed squash, sweet potatoes, green beans kale salad, green salad, whiskey carrots, mashed potatoes and parsnips. Then there's the 3 types of cranberry sauce 2 homemade and the traditional canned. Our family has dinner at 3ish followed by picking at leftovers throughout the day. The only thing I missed was watching the Macy... Mon, 1 Dec 2014 08:40:30 EST A bit past my year Anniversary with Sparkpeople http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5820579 I have learned quite a bit in the past year. Top 10 things in no particular order.

1. Getting 5 servings of fruits and veggies is really not that hard.
2. I can exercise in 10 minute increments
3. Pilates still kicks my *ss.
4. I really am in denial about my non work computer time.
5. Todo lists and planning are my friends for menus and squeezing in exercise
6. The stress is never going away so have a plan B and C and on some days a D just in case.
... Fri, 21 Nov 2014 09:40:43 EST Its Fall http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5818254 Okay its getting toward the end of fall but we had some perfect fall weather this weekend. A little overcast so the leaves look that much brighter and getting colder. I like the cold.

I am still working on consistency and some way of losing instead of just maintaining. I have improved my freggie intake. If I have a fruit with breakfast, 2 veggies with lunch and dinner, I've covered my 5 freggie minimum. Adding a snack with veggies or fruit is just a bonus.

With t... Mon, 17 Nov 2014 10:19:49 EST Plugging along http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5797960 I really love fall but right now it isn't loving me back. Hubby is recovering from an illness that put him on short term disability. (For some reason that makes both of us feel really old) He's back at work but his normal work day just leaves him exhausted since he isn't really 100% yet. My oldest is stressing because of PSATs and school and the pressure they put on high school juniors that if they blow this year their life is over and none of their dreams will come true. So she has m... Tue, 14 Oct 2014 09:53:57 EST Took an Unplanned Break http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5787865 Started out strong for the first week of back to school then it all went pear shaped. Trying to sort out everyone's schedules and keep up was challenging and then the fall allergies/colds started moving in. I haven't been logging in, keeping up or managing my food. Which means I haven't slept, I'm either eating nothing or overeating and the exercise is not happening.

On the upside the kids are still complaining about the lack of junk food in the house. I'm still cooking more ... Sat, 27 Sep 2014 11:13:08 EST Merrily we roll along http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5768571 Today marks the fourth day of the school year. So far all the forms are signed, the girls are in the classes they are supposed to be in, dinner plans have been followed and I'm keeping to my cardio goals. My oldest actually cooked dinner last night, stir fry chicken with vegetables on soba noodles. I sat at the kitchen table as a security blanket. I had planned to bring my lunch but the leftovers were claimed before I could get them. Clearly I needed an alternate plan. Thu, 28 Aug 2014 08:23:19 EST School Starts http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5767170 Yay! Back to a more regular schedule. So far I've hit the gym yesterday and today. Still coming just short of my 10,000 step goal but working on it. My oldest is preparing for college even though it is still two years off, so we've been planning menus together and she's picking up some of the cooking. Since she leans toward vegetarian her meals tend to have lots of veggies. Dinner tonight is already in the crockpot since I have a committee meeting. With any luck I'll get to eat my ... Tue, 26 Aug 2014 08:06:32 EST Week 2 of getting back on track with exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5752264 Things that I've learned from the past week. 30 minutes of cardio is really not that long. Pilates looks easy and is not. Decided to try the crunchless ab workout. I made it half way through it. I'll try it again and again until I actually last the entire 12 minutes.

Now I need more water and a shower.

386 Sun, 3 Aug 2014 13:07:58 EST Happy Saturday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5751619 Started the day with a hike with hubby. Next up (after my snack and some water) is gathering up all the outgrown and/or unwanted clothes and shoes and taking them to the donation closet. Then I'm getting a pedicure. My biggest decision today will be whether I'm going with pink nail polish or maybe a sunset orange.

Thanks to actually living my menu plan this week (except for making the Chicken with Leeks, couldn't find unwilted leeks) no vegetables turned to slimy puddles in ... Sat, 2 Aug 2014 11:05:35 EST Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5748079 You know its going to be a good Monday when your ear worm for the day is the theme from Mister Rodgers Neighborhood. I have a plan for the week!

The menus are ready and the groceries have been purchased. Even have a new recipe (Chicken pan roasted with Leeks) if that one turns out well it will end up being posted on Spark Recipes. Have a crock pot pot roast planned for Tuesday because the schedule will be crazy and I've joined the Bootcamp challenge to keep me working out.... Mon, 28 Jul 2014 09:14:35 EST Cleaning out the closet http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5747063 I decided one of my goals was to do a capsule wardrobe for the summer and build on it moving forward. Mostly because I'm tired of not looking put together because I'm waiting to lose the weight. So I went through my closet and removed anything that didn't fit, I didn't like or I hadn't used in a year. I now have 4 bags of clothes, shoes, purses and belts to donate and I do still have clothes to wear.

After I finish this blog post I'm going to figure out what pieces I want t... Sat, 26 Jul 2014 17:27:36 EST First Tomato ! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5738477 We harvested our first tomato of the season! My garden has herbs (chives, parsley, basil, thyme, and rosemary), tomato plants and bean plants. With flowers to fill in. We usually only plant a couple of tomato plants because once they go into full production mode its hard to keep up. It does give me a reason to be outside in the garden although the thunder storms have messed with some of those plans. Mon, 14 Jul 2014 09:23:33 EST Same old song and dance http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5722812 I feel like I've been running a marathon for 2 months. School has finally ended. The girls are finally signed up for all the requisite summer things. Except I still need to sign the oldest up for driving school. I think I'll just wallow in my denial for a few more days on that one.

On the good side I did go to the gym this morning. First time in six weeks. Part of that is because the weather has been nice and I've been walking outside but the other part is I've been slacking.... Sat, 21 Jun 2014 13:15:54 EST Summer is almost here http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5717181 I've scheduled the camps for the youngest, planned some activities for the oldest and now I'm planning my goals. I'm intending to change my habits over the summer, hopefully make some headway on some fitness goals and create habits that will last me into the start of the stress season (aka, school, church, girl scouts and all my other occupations) in September.

We start with visiting the farmer's market this Saturday. Make a batch of veggie soup for lunches and snacks. Ge... Fri, 13 Jun 2014 11:23:08 EST One more time with feeling http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5704176 I have discovered that I can concentrate on sleeping, exercise or food but not all three at the same time. On a good week I can do two out of the three. Currently we're back on trying to concentrate on food and getting away from emotional eating. I'm still walking and sticking with my weight training and hopefully that means I'll be sleeping. The really good news is the school year, church year and girl scout year are almost at an end. I have almost 3 months where my obligations are gre... Tue, 27 May 2014 08:47:18 EST Dear pollen please get lost http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5688770 The weather is just getting to the point where it would be wonderful to walk outside if it wasn't for the abominable tree sex. Can't walk outside if I can't breath afterword. My car has a golden haze from all the pollen. I can garden for about 15 min before I need to go back inside. The upside is I do channel the Tazmanian devil while weeding so I can make the most of the time.

I joined a spring bootcamp challenge so I can get back to consistent exercising. Was planning t... Tue, 6 May 2014 09:16:12 EST Still working toward it http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5681540 Spent most of yesterday preparing for a dinner party. You would think I would get more steps in running up and down stairs putting things away and getting serving plates out of storage but that isn't the case. I taste while I'm cooking so I have no idea what I actually ate yesterday. At least it was a Tuscan style so there were lots of vegetables.

Getting my menus together and with some of the leftovers there's going to be some tasty breakfasts and lunches. The roasted red ... Sun, 27 Apr 2014 11:06:41 EST Yay! Now I can get back on track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5679384 Taking today and tomorrow off after finishing a major project. Doing sexy things like catching up on the housework. The good news is even after 3 weeks of a crappy schedule I was still getting my freggies and staying mostly on my meal planning. The only thing that really suffered was my exercise routine. So I'm off to the gym to get back on track.

334 Thu, 24 Apr 2014 10:42:58 EST The many challenges of being gainfully employed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5668823 Somewhere someone decided everything at work that I'm leading needs to be done at the end of March or April. Working longer hours and multiple meetings is really messing up my plans. We've at least made changes to the working lunches so we have roasted veggie subs, chicken fajitas or some other diet friendly entree with the pizza or subs that are offered. The biggest problem is the exercise, or lack thereof. I've gone from 30 minutes or more of dance/kick boxing or walking, to barel... Thu, 10 Apr 2014 08:54:04 EST Spring is finally here! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5664033 We have finally had an entire week with no snow and it has been warm most days. I'm looking forward to starting the gardening. Also hoping the weather doesn't move immediately from freezing to stifling hot.

I did finally manage to get off 231. Now I have to work on getting down into the 220s. A bit disappointing since in my original plan when I joined in Oct 2013 I was going to be at my goal of 160 by July. Somehow I'm thinking that was a bit unrealistic. Toying with the... Fri, 4 Apr 2014 06:59:40 EST Today's "Well that should've been obvious" Moment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5649741 I have been stuck at 231 for weeks. I'm not entirely complaining since at least I'm not going up, but I'm not going down either. I've been working out regularly. The front desk at the gym actually notices when I'm not there. I've been eating within my calories. Maybe not always doing a great job getting my freggies in but I'm within my calories.

For the Spring Fling challenge I've been reviewing the past week to see where I can make improvements. The only thing I haven'... Mon, 17 Mar 2014 09:12:48 EST Moving forward but refusing to spring http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5645076 I am one of those that do not like the spring forward. I want my hour back. I had finally gotten my exercise routines into something that could be called a routine and now its deep dark in the morning again. Add to this that I don't use an alarm clock and I'm oversleeping my normal work out time. I did my cardio routine on Sunday and shifted my strength training to the evening yesterday. Unfortunately I don't have room in my evening today to put my cardio there. Fortunately I do work ... Tue, 11 Mar 2014 06:56:10 EST Putting on the green http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5639296 Decided to dress up my page for March. Currently a bit frustrated, the scale isn't changing and neither is the tape measure for most measurements. If the current trend continues I'm going to have trim thighs topped by a round body. My clothes are fitting better so evidently rolls are shifting but not in any way I can record. But I have not raided either the ice cream or the girl scout cookies and I'm still keeping with my exercise. So today I'm counting the things that have improved even... Tue, 4 Mar 2014 08:53:15 EST Collards are on sale! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5632277 Huge bunch of collards on sale for $1.99. Joy! Cleaned them up when I got them home and I'll cook them today. Since no one else in the house likes collards they're all mine. I'm so ready for spring and fresh greens and peas.

Back on track exercising again after a cold. Still trying to get the diet and tracking back in the groove. Something about being sick really brings out the need for comfort food and carbs are definitely my comfort of choice. Really counter productive... Mon, 24 Feb 2014 08:40:33 EST I have a cold http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5622182 My oldest shared her cold. She is now back at school but I'm on day 2 of not being able to go to work because my head is so stuffed I can't move. I used to be able to take a sudafed and be back at work. But no they've changed the formulation and it doesn't work for me. I have yet to find a daytime medication that works well enough and doesn't knock me out. I can't exercise because moving my head hurts. I don't want to eat so I'm drinking water, coffee, tea, and juice. I sent a shoppi... Wed, 12 Feb 2014 11:02:51 EST Not a bad week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5617649 It warmed up to double digits! I started weight training and have been getting my cardio in. Of course this means I haven't been logging my food because I can only succeed at one new habit at a time. The good news is I can't be doing that badly because there aren't fatty, sugary, salty snacks laying about the house anymore and I haven't been eating out. And I have proof (Men folk just skip to the next paragraph) I had to use the next smaller notch on my workout bra. Yay!

... Fri, 7 Feb 2014 09:07:05 EST Strength training for the first time in a long time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5614739 Yesterday I did an hour of strength training. 20 years ago that would've been a short set. 20 years ago I was at the gym for an hour and a half minimum. 100lb bench presses, squats with 180lbs and pectoral flys with 25lbs in each hand. (No I didn't remember that I have a little notebook from back in the day that has my routine). Of course 20 years ago I was married, with no kids and an entry level job that didn't take much of my attention.

So yesterday I pick up my 8lb dumbb... Tue, 4 Feb 2014 08:22:18 EST Working on my Menus http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5614017 I do my menu for the week on Sunday. I grab whatever recipes I've been wanting to try, look at what is in the pantry/freezer, pull out my calendar and pull up the menus for the week from SP as a rough guide. After figuring out who is going to be home when and what days I'll have time to actually cook the real planning starts.

In my family of four there are 2 omnivores, one vegetarian and a vegan. The girls have some cooking skills but generally won't actually use the stove un... Mon, 3 Feb 2014 12:37:29 EST I am tired of the cold http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5609563 We have reached that part of the winter where I'm ready for spring. Now! It is 18F I think it made it to the low 20s today. Everything is crusted with ice or salt or a bit of both. The seed catalogs have started arriving. I'm looking in my snow covered plant beds with bare stems sticking out picturing flowers and herbs. Maybe I'll grow some Dragon Langerie wax beans again. They're wax beans that are light yellow with purple stripes. They could only be better if the purple color st... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 20:05:42 EST Still working on consistency http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5606950 This past week I had children's doctor appointments, a girl scout troop meeting, a party we hosted and a second party elsewhere. Complicated by snow and really frigid temperatures. During the week I managed to still have healthy snacks available and plan dinner so the diet situation wasn't so bad but the exercise was almost non-existent. With temperatures in the single digits I'm not getting out to the gym, face it I'm not even shifting the cat so I can get out of my warm bed. The weekend... Mon, 27 Jan 2014 09:11:26 EST Hello Ditch http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5603422 I've been humming along fairly well trying to get the eating right synced up with the exercising thing. Doing my usual roller coaster of this week I have time so I'm hitting goals and another week not so much. After 2 days of snowy weather (hey I'm in Maryland we don't know how to cope with the white stuff) I ran out of healthy food, time and patience and got the munchies. Tostitos with lime, a bag that I hadn't even touched went down by half in minutes while I was trying to decide what t... Thu, 23 Jan 2014 13:27:22 EST New Fitness Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5594461 I've been doing okay getting my exercise in so I decided to step it up. I'm trying to get 250 minutes of cardio for the week plus some strength training. So far I'm over half way on the cardio with 130 minutes and I'm likely to get an hour in on Friday since I go to the gym when I drop the youngest off for mixed martial arts practice. I also bought 8lb barbells and some resistance bands. New toys to try out with some new exercise videos. Wed, 15 Jan 2014 08:48:13 EST Figured it Out! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5580661 So yesterday I didn't get up in the morning as planned to go to the gym. It was cold, I was still tired from New Year's whatever the operative excuses are not important. As a rule I do not go to the gym in the evening. Between picking up or taxiing children and fixing dinner there just isn't enough time. Yesterday I decided to do 3 10 minute exercise videos around getting dinner done.

I queued up the videos I wanted first. Then hopped upstairs to start dinner. Put the bake... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 11:32:03 EST New Year's Resolutions http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5576456 This year I've decided to do my resolutions a little differently. This year is for me and I will be my top priority.

1. I resolve to have a massage at least once a quarter.
We have massages available every year at our women's retreat. Every year for the past 5 I've had a massage and taken her card so I can schedule one for myself later in the year. Every year I don't. I still have the card and I'll be scheduling a massage in March. Yes January and February are already ...
