TRIATHLONBABE's SparkPeople Blog TRIATHLONBABE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Accepted Me... I have finally accepted me as me. I love saying that. Over the past year and a half, lots of personal life crisis' have happened and have put a damper on what most of us call, "losing weight, diets, too fat, too skinny, not pretty enough, etc." Well, that's when I used to call myself fat, no self esteem, don't feel good about myself, etc. These past few months, I've changed my views about myself, although every now and then I have these moments of self doubt and kind of get a little down,... Fri, 24 May 2013 14:19:40 EST First week of stuff...exercise and things I am getting back to some normalcy or at least what I think is a bit more normalcy than I've had in awhile. Lots of negative things have happened over the past few months and I'm trying to stay on the positive side of things and not allow those vibes to get me down.

This past week was a good and positive one in my journey to a healthy no injury me AGAIN. Not that I've been unhealthy, just that I've had a few things take me down and having a week like this made me realize that ***... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 22:21:38 EST The Light behind the Obstacles

Sometimes one realizes it’s time to listen to your body and folks around you. 40 My stubbornness fell to the wayside and I finally had to make a drastic decision; at least it is for me. With this reoccurrence of severe sciatica and now 2 herniated discs in my lower back, messed up knee, etc., I have to put on hold as of late my current workouts of power boxing, jazzercise (I went back to this because I ... Sat, 3 Nov 2012 20:59:30 EST A little disappointed of outcome on Saturday... Remember the blog I wrote in regards to, "it's a sign"....well, the sign that I spoke of was the meeting with a new triathlon coach last Saturday that never happened. I was a little disappointed when I just happened to pull up my email while sitting at a light on my way to the Starbucks where we were going to have our meeting. There it was, the thing I dreaded, she cancelled on me! 101 Gracie was not happy at all but thankfully I hadn't gotten but only 10 min from my house when... Thu, 11 Oct 2012 16:17:22 EST Took some advice from my 2 favorite people in my life!
I know I'm probably beating this to the ground and you are probably tired of hearing this but this blog is about goals again...teehee and we're 3 days into October. Granted I still have the main goal in my mind and on paper in fact, but for October, the goals are for fun and more attainable at the moment.

Those two people you see in the picture are two very important people in my life, my lovely sister whom I... Wed, 3 Oct 2012 11:52:49 EST October Goals...hmmmm!
I don't know when the last time I blogged about a month's worth of goals however; goals are what I am trying to establish to get me going. I've been told by a few folks that know me that I don't have to set goals that have to do with fitness or nutrition like I have for so many years. However, that is me and it's been me for about 12 years of my life. These two things are important in my life and they are the things t... Mon, 1 Oct 2012 13:03:24 EST I think this is a sign!

I wrote a blog yesterday that I believe kind of got the ball rolling....uhh....maybe??? I was researching some stuff (dallas area triathlon coaches to be exact) on-line last Friday and just by chance I found a website in regards to triathlon coaching. I thought...hmm, this is probably one of those websites where the person used to be a coach and just forgot to remove or shut down their website (negative thoughts ... Tue, 25 Sep 2012 23:04:06 EST When a goal has been met, what to do next Looks like the last time I was really active on SparkPeople was when I wrote my last blog back in April of this year. Eeeek! This was when I was in my second week of the Bikram 60 Day Challenge. Wow, seems so long ago and it technically was. I actually finished that challenge on May 31st and it was an amazing finish to a long road.

I want to get back to some normalcy and back on track but am having a hard time... Mon, 24 Sep 2012 17:28:08 EST 60 Day Challenge Week 2 Update
Ahh the Dandayamana-Janushirasana Head to Knee pose, bet you think I've been able to do this now that I've been doing Bikram for almost 2 months now...huh? Nope, still haven't been able to perfect this one. I've been told that this posture can take months upon months to accomplish perfectly. So I guess I have awhile to get this one and all the rest. I can balance on the standing leg with my knee locked out and one le... Tue, 17 Apr 2012 09:28:40 EST I did it...I did it...180 min of meditation and sweat

I have to say that I was really nervous yesterday morning when I knew I would be attending a double practice. That means, not just 90 min of Bikram (hot sweaty yoga) but 180 minutes of pure meditation and sweat. Yikes! 198 After the first 90 min., I came out after Savasna for 2 min. and sat on a bench in the lobby of the studio. Some of the instructors were out there and I just blurted out how nervo... Mon, 9 Apr 2012 16:38:13 EST Yoga Pictures
This is the chart that is used for our Bikram 60 Day Challenge, where each day that I attend, I place a sticker. Fri, 6 Apr 2012 12:49:25 EST Challenge update and then some with potty break workouts... Just an update on my Bikram practice challenge among other things. I started the challenge on Monday and started out on a fantastic note. My practice was amazing and I FELT amazing. I'm not sure if it was all the excitement of getting a chart put on the wall where I could put any kind of stickers I wanted for each day I attended and decorate as I wanted or just the fact that I had a great practice. Either way, I'm hoping they continue to be this way and that I continue to feel healthy, fl... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 16:42:15 EST Bikram 60 Day Challenge & Other Changes
Remember the challenge I blogged about recently and all the status updates with "changes happening" I've been listing in SP lately? Well, the changes have been in full swing for awhile now and the 60 day challenge is about to begin. The song that comes to mind is, "the race is on and here comes pride in the backstretch...lalalala". I have been talking about this challenge for awhile because I had so many mixed feelings... Sun, 1 Apr 2012 23:39:03 EST A Challenge is a challenge is a challenge
You cannot always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside. -Mr. Yoga

I recently set up a 300 Pushups Challenge for myself for the month of March. A good friend of mine, CMA444 started a challenge with 100 pushups for March, so I thought....hmmm, maybe I can throw a loop in there for me and try doing 300. Of course, my DH said, eh, you should try 500 and I'm like uhhhh, ho... Wed, 7 Mar 2012 19:20:31 EST Juicer...juice...juice

These are some of the ingredients I use in my juicer. I love to make different juices in my juicer and do a little experimenting. My usual juice I make because it makes me feel so good after a hard workout, is my beet mixture. This mixture will usually have 1 beet, 1 carrot, 1 cucumber, 1 lemon or lime, and fresh ginger. The glass in this pic has those ingredients. Last night I tried something a little better ... Thu, 1 Mar 2012 15:25:30 EST New Healthy Recipe Try scores an A+ in my book Every now and then I like to try new recipes. This year will mark my third year as a pescatarian and sometimes it's hard finding recipes that I don't get bored with. My daily nutrition is geared more towards vegetarianism, however, fish plays a big role in my food consumption throughout the week for that extra protein and to be honest, I love sushi. My DH has even changed most of his daily nutrition to pescatarian as well. He'll eat fowl every now and then but mostly fish but I'm working ... Tue, 28 Feb 2012 10:57:06 EST The joys of being a parent for your parent... I need to blog about this before I explode and it might be a little lengthy so pardon me. This is something I've been struggling with for a long while but I don't voice it much. What better way to get it off my chest than to speak it outward and hopefully get some feedback from my friends on SP.

You see, I am the youngest of 5 children, where I am 45 years old and my oldest brother is 64 years old. Wed, 22 Feb 2012 16:26:04 EST I only resolve to do only 2 things! I personally believe that I will set myself up for failure if I try to do the trendy thing and set New Years Resolutions. I read a fantastic article today on about this very subject and to this day it is the first thing that made sense to me when it comes to this subject. Just to give you an idea of what I read, it goes something like this, written by Coach Jenny Hadfield.

"I learned a great deal about resolutions during the early part of my professional career. I spe... Fri, 6 Jan 2012 15:31:17 EST To Like or Not to Like the workout....that is the question! Working out on a pretty much consistent basis for many years can cause one to be a bit critical when a workout appears to just not be what you expected. I took spin classes 3 years ago when I was training for triathlons and could not get my cycling in on a consistent basis due to weather conditions. I really enjoyed the classes but they weren't the best spin classes I'd taken. I'd taken 2 different classes at 2 different locations at the time and those classes were both awesome and taught ... For those of you who don't already know, I live in a suburb east of Dallas, Tx. I was born and raised in Texas, Houston, Tx. to be exact and winters like this did not exist in my childhood. Sun, 6 Feb 2011 17:33:20 EST Kickboxing...boxing....marathons....ultras....triathlons...sheesh, what a bucket list! I decided for 2011 that I would dealve into a different side of the fitness world and look at what I came up with. Yikes. So yea, just tell me I'm nuts. 40 When did I decide to fulfill a bucket list, I'm only 44 years old??? Okay so, I've done the marathons and I've done the triathlons, but the things in that list that I'd never thought I'd add to my vocabulary are kickboxing, boxing, and ultras. Tue, 28 Dec 2010 22:26:16 EST My First Holiday as a Pescatarian It's been 8 months almost since I decided I needed to do something about my eating habits again. The first time I changed my eating habits it was for a more healthy lifestyle and to continue this habit for life. Well, I have been doing well with this lifestyle for almost 10 years now. I originally did this to lose weight and that goal was met, now I am doing this to help my digestive system and for some other personal reasons.

I started this new way of eating in baby steps. I used Galloway 2:1 intervals the entire race. This was actually a marathon for a few of us, well for me too, however, not an actual race but more of a training run to see if some of us could endure for our BIG race in just 3 weeks.

To begin with, I've been told by my Galloway roommates that I am a bit anal retentive...teehee! , this is a... Mon, 15 Nov 2010 22:15:10 EST 26.2 Mile Training Run - Can I do this...can I really??? Well, I haven't blogged in so long I forgot how to. I thought I'd start my blogging goal with this title. Yep, I will be doing a 26.2 mile marathon training run tomorrow and I'm a bit nervous about it. You see, I have not run a marathon since April, 2005 and I don't know if my body 5 years later will tolerate this long run. Fortunately, I've been training with the Dallas Jeff Galloway group since June of this year and I'm hoping with this training that I will be able to finish this traini... Sat, 13 Nov 2010 11:32:34 EST Cooking Faux Pas Numero Uno Eeeek, I did the unthinkable, I cooked something that I thought would turn out good just by the sound of it and it didn't. Wahhhhh! Ever had one of those days where you think something is going to be really good to try and cook and it turns out not to be?

So I decided to make a pot of jasmine rice...ahhh that beautiful scented Thai rice that smells and tastes so lovely. Sun, 29 Aug 2010 22:50:27 EST Listening to your body and be prepared I read an interesting blog today about listening to your body. I read a blog at least daily, and she wrote a great blog today about just this. And I did just this, I listened to my body.

You see, I did something I've done once before and it was very stupid on my part. Wed, 25 Aug 2010 23:02:40 EST Holy Smokes Wk 10 Fall Marathon Training already??? I'm in disbelief that I am in the 10th week of my marathon training and I've got some upcoming dilemmas that I've got to figure out so that I don't fall of my marathon train!!!

I couldn't believe myself that I had made it to 10 weeks of marathon training. It's all due to joining this great team in Dallas, the Dallas Galloway Running Group. I started on June 5th and didn't know for sure that I was going to have the normal motivation to keep it up. Well, it's August 7th and I am i... Sun, 8 Aug 2010 22:47:14 EST Great Day in Dallas and Rowlett Texas! Do you ever think about accomplishments you've made and wonder what led you to those accomplishments? "Keep steadily before you the fact that all true success depends at last upon yourself." Theodore T. Hunger This quote comes to mind when I attempted this AM to beat my original Magic Mile. My original time for the Magic Mile back on June 5th, was 10:26 with a continued run for the whole mile. That was the first time I'd ever done anything like that before, so I was pretty comfortable wi... Sat, 31 Jul 2010 19:38:56 EST Awake at 3am....what was I thinking! Well, our Galloway group coach took a poll last week to see who all was game for just doing 5am runs at least until Labor Day, majority ruled and we are up & running at 5am every Sat. regardless if it's a long run or not. I'm okay with that, however, as a long time runner and triathlete, I've always had to be up at least 2 hrs. prior to any type of activity be it running or triathlon and waking up a 3am, I have got to say SUCKS. Especially when I have to be in bed by 8:30pm on a Friday nigh... Sat, 31 Jul 2010 04:55:04 EST Too Hot to Handle 15k Race Recap Howdy folks,

Well, my intentions were to have written this up either the day of the race or the day after, however, that didn't happen. I pretty much continued running after the race as I still had a Ladies Luncheon to attend at 1pm too. Eeek! 24 My usual race day/long run plan is to run, take an ice shower, put jammies on, drink juicer juice (1 beet, 1 carrot, 1 cuke, ginger and lemon) but that did not happen this time, although I did get my juicer juice in.
<... Tue, 27 Jul 2010 17:08:52 EST Too Hot to Handle 15k Bound Tomorrow is the day, the day I run 15k. It's been 5 years since I've run a 15k. I've run a few halfs, a marathon, some 5k's here and there and a few triathlons since, but not a 15k.

This is going to be a short blog cause I gotta get some rest. I just had to shed some light on what I am about to do tomorrow for myself. I joined the Dallas Galloway Running group on June 5th and have been running with the group every Sat. ever since. I have to admit I really am enjoying the con... Sat, 17 Jul 2010 22:38:59 EST Food For Thought Pre/Post Run meals and other stuff Food....or should I say nutrition is a good thing when we are training for some big event. At least, that's what I hear and what I've experienced. I am going to start kind of late in my marathon training to blog what I eat on my long run Saturdays, however, not every Saturday will be a "long" run. For instance, next Saturday is a 3 miler after our 6 miler yesterday, but I still intend to blog about the food I eat prior to my run, the food I eat after my run, my habits pre and post run as w... Sun, 27 Jun 2010 22:11:16 EST Open Mouth Insert Foot I said I was going to do this and I am doing it. Yes I am! 104 I joined the Dallas Galloway Running Group 3 Saturdays ago and this past Sat. was my 4th training with the group. Oh my gosh, I thought about doing this towards the end of last year but it was too late for me to join for any type of training as the team was knee deep in fall/winter marathon training, so the coach told me to wait around until the spring of 2010 and join then. So there you go, I joined 4 weeks ago an... Thu, 22 Apr 2010 10:46:34 EST Learned a lesson w/muscle soreness recovery My previous blog, I spoke about my joy of achieving something I hadn't in a long time. I thought about writing another blog later on this evening, when I noticed something weird and had just thought about it at that moment. I worked out 6 days straight this week and I always loathe the first few days of any type of strength training because of the horrible muscle soreness I feel 24-48 hrs later. Soreness that hurts just talking about it makes me hurt. I mean, when a person can't even sit ... Sun, 11 Apr 2010 22:55:29 EST Journey with a vow!
This vow I'm referring to is the proudness I feel for myself knowing that I ate very healthy this week and I stayed on track with my fitness so now I am about to start a new week with the drive to do the same thing this week. I took off from fitness today, to rest up my muscles for the week and it felt fantastic, although we took our dog to an awesome event in Dallas called the Dog Bowl where we walked a lot. I know th... Sun, 11 Apr 2010 20:09:24 EST Feeling phenomenal forever! Blogging makes me happy, so why have I neglected it so??? Well, fitness is a big part of my evenings mostly M-Th, by Friday all I want to do is relax and the weekends...well, you know.

So, it all started with an end to a horrific work week, mostly just a super busy work week Although, I have to say last weekend was a good one and Wednesday night was pretty awesome too. That's okay though because the workouts during the week made it possible to end on a positive note. I've begun... Sun, 21 Mar 2010 22:51:44 EST Forgive me for I have sinned...Day 6 Detox Update and Day 7 Normally I would say this in confession but at the moment I am confessing to myself for a bad day 6.5 of my 7 day detox. I was originally feeling really guilty about it last night and this AM and even posted it as my SP status today, however, I am no longer having that guilty feeling. I had to listen to my mantra, "I will have that drink, a margarita, I will have something to eat that was not on the detox meals, avocado enchiladas, chips and salsa and I will have that brownie, which was act... Sun, 28 Feb 2010 22:00:11 EST Pray for my family in Chile! We woke up this AM to horrible news of an 8.8 on the richter scale that hit parts of Chile where my brother-in-law has a lot of family and friends. My brother-in-law is my sister's husband and I love him dearly. He has been a part of my life since I was 4 years old. He took myself and my DH to Santiago, Chile just last summer in June to meet his family that we had never met. Well, I have gotten through the week---days on detox and so far so good. It's Friday and what a great day to end the weekday portion of this program. Now, the big test for me, Saturday and Sunday. 40 The challenge will be that I am not at work where it's a little easier to be disciplined with my eating habits. For example, at home, I'm not in a controlled environment, I have a big refrigerator to look in and although I have a pantry full of all the healthy foods I could ever... Fri, 26 Feb 2010 23:44:35 EST Results of Day 4 Detox...moving right along! I felt wonderful this AM, actually slept in an extra 30 min. and that felt fantastic! My day was busy as always at work but once again, did not feel hungry at all today. The only issue I had was that I was a little more gassy (TMI....tehe) than I have been all week. I'm sure that is to be expected with the things I am eating. Another thing I'm noticing which might be a little more TMI is that my system isn't really moving until late afternoon and when I get home from work...not sure if th... Thu, 25 Feb 2010 22:15:15 EST Gonna try this again! Another successful detox day, Day 3 done! Woohoo!!! I'll be nice today as it seemed I wasn't yesterday....still don't know what that was all about but like my SP friends indicated, maybe it was something I ate...LOL!

No more headaches, yippee! I guess yesterday was the breaking point for this process, I don't know. The good thing about this is that I'm not feeling hungry anymore and maybe that's the reason I'm not having the headaches anymore.

So here's what I at... Wed, 24 Feb 2010 22:28:49 EST Trying to post my Day Two of Detox This is a test. SP thinks whatever I put in my original blog for today had did not. So I rewrote it and took out some acronyms that might be construed as profanity....which I don't know which ones would be, but ugh....So I won't be posting a Day 2.

I did a test and it accepted it. So I'm not sure what's going on. All it was, was a list of the foods I ate and how I felt throughout the day. I have never used profanity, so I'm not really sure what's causing this. ... Tue, 23 Feb 2010 23:12:41 EST Survived the First Day of Detox....woosh! It started with that dreadful warm water with lemon juice....eeek! Then on to a half cup of honeydew w/an egg white.....the clock is ticking and I'm feeling a bit hungry, but not so bad. So finally it's time for a snack....yummy...a banana and a cup of decaf herbal tea....what???? Decaf....Grace doesn't do decaf, but on detox, I do....ugh! 24 So I'm at my desk and I'm trying really hard to keep busy and the clock is ticking slowly but it's moving ssssllllloooooowwwwwllllllyyyyy.....
