So, I haven't posted a blog in a year and that probably doesn't count because it was a survey and not a "real" blog. How can I explain my absence? Well, with excuses of course. Last December I moved from New York City to San Diego. It's been quite an adjustment but I am really glad that I made the big move. Leaving the greatest city in the world was a sacrifice but it was worth it to be closer to my family AND I am no longer in a long distance ... This past Sunday I decided to finally get in the pool and try to swim some laps.

I've always loved the water. Wed, 2 May 2012 14:44:15 EST Lighting a fire under my a$$ http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4817132 So, one of the best things about being in a loving, healthy relationship with a great man is that he loves me for me, thinks I'm gorgeous and wouldn't change a thing. The bad thing? He loves me for me and wouldn't change a thing. I've become complacent and lazy lately. True, I exceeded 1,000 fitness minutes per month in January and March but I haven't been putting in the effort to burn some real calories. I'm still going to the gym but I'm not exerting any real effort.

None of this... Sorry for not being the Spark cheerleader I used to be. I've been a more passive member of this community for the past few months. I'm still here, Sparking every day, I'm just not being as vocal as I used to be. Sorry for that.

I guess the reason why I've been a little quieter is that my time is a lot more precious now. Her daughter is 8 months old and is nowhere near fat or chubby. This bothered me (and her) because her daughter was getting an unnecessary label put on her based on her size. Tue, 6 Sep 2011 11:11:48 EST A brand new goal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4449762 I just read this article on SP about giving yourself a vacation as a reward for meeting a goal. I love this idea! I especially love it cause I'm already planning a mini-vacay and I like that I can attach a mini-goal to go along with it. If I don't reach my goal, does that mean I can't take the vacation? I hope not. I mean, I make the rules right? I say that as long as I make *some* progress then I can take the vacation. That's a good compromise.

OK, so here is the goal: Right now ... Let me start from the beginning. I went to Coney Island (for my first time ever) on Saturday for the mermaid parade. It was my friend's birthday and that's what she desperately wanted to do. So we braved the crowds (many of them in ridiculous costumes, including my friend) and watched the parade. It got boring after a bit so we decided to go on some rides. We saw this amazing looking rollercoaster that was called the Soarin'... I've been playing the songs nonstop ever since. The good news about my obsession is that it's making me "chair dance" at work. I'm not logging this as fitness minutes (cause it's not) but I think it's good that in my sedentary job that I'm constantly moving even while I'm sitting down. It was the first time I've ever participated in any kind of race, virtual or not. I'm really proud of myself for the training that went into it (I've never been able to run for more than a few seconds at a time) and the fact that I finished under the goal I set for myself. At first I set a goal of 50 minutes but I knew that was a little high since I can walk a 5K that fast. I set a more realistic, "challenging" goal of 40 minutes. I am proud to say... I almost didn't believe it. Actually, I didn't believe it at first and checked again at the end of my workout. It said 210. I haven't been that close to being under 200 pounds in almost a decade. The only problem with seeing this number is that I feel like it's not reflecting the truth. Fri, 11 Mar 2011 14:12:33 EST Everyone's doing it, why not me? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4078654 I decided to give up something for Lent this year. I haven't really done it in the past. The church I go to doesn't really "require" it so I never felt compelled to do it before. I have been wanting to give up alcohol for a while now and this seemed like a good time to do it. If I can make it through the 40 days of Lent, maybe I can make it 60 or 100 or forever. Drinking is bad for me and adds empty calories to my food tracker and takes the place of yummy things I could have instead.
<... Wed, 9 Mar 2011 11:07:26 EST Week 1, Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4076784 I did the first day of training for the Virtual 5K yesterday. I was able to get through it pretty easily (I mean, I wasn't dying or anything). As soon as I had logged in my time I immediately went to a bike to log in more cardio minutes. And then I did some ST. Seriously, who is this girl I've become? I have been eating within my calorie range every day (minus a few when I drank a bunch of calories) without *that much* effort. I am really enjoying going to the gym and even worked out on my va... Tue, 8 Mar 2011 17:19:27 EST Virtual 5K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4071598 So, I decided to walk/run in the SP Virtual 5K next month. This is my first race EVER. I've been wanting to do something like this for awhile and this seemed like fun. I like the idea that I have a goal and something to train for. I've been out of town a lot the last two months so I haven't been getting to the gym as much as I was before. This will hopefully motivate me to do more and push my body harder. Anyone else want to do it with me? Virtually or not. :)
312 Sun, 6 Mar 2011 21:57:40 EST Back and better than ever http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4066068 I am back from my Sparkation (thanks to TAMMYTH64 for that word). It was great to be back in Southern California (San Diego and Palm Springs) but I was definitely going through SP withdrawal. I missed the beaches and the weather in SD (not to mention my amazing friends that are still there). I really need to find a way to move back there. Of course, if I did, I would probably gain a million pounds because the Mexican food and margaritas are so amazing . I did a good job of eating on my trip (... Fri, 4 Mar 2011 12:31:28 EST Impending doom http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4023344 So, I agreed to go to a (free) training session at the gym at 5 am today. What a mistake that was. Sure, it was a great workout but I ended up vomiting toward the end. Not sure what triggered that (too much water and not enough food?). I'm also coming down with a cold and feel awful. My throat feels swollen, I'm exhausted (that might have a little to do with my 4:30 wakeup though) and have a slight fever. I hope that I can kick whatever this sickness is in the next few days because I have a t... Wed, 16 Feb 2011 18:08:29 EST Not-so-happy Valentine's Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4016669 I've never been a fan of Valentine's Day, even when I was in a relationship. It's so much more depressing when I'm alone though. Anyway, I'm trying to stay positive and happy but work is stressing me out! Thank goodness I have stopped turning to food when I get overwhelmed at work. I packed a healthy lunch today with a healthy snack (yummy Fiber One bar) so hopefully this will be a healthy and happy day. Hope everyone else is doing the same.
129 Mon, 14 Feb 2011 11:25:31 EST Take it with a grain of salt http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4015421 So, I started tracking my sodium intake recently and it's been really high ever since I started tracking it. I'm not sure why it's so high (it exceeds the range by about 300 mg every day). I'm not eating particularly salty foods. Any ideas what foods have "hidden" extra sodium in them? My blood pressure is on the high side as it is so I should really work on lowering my overall intake. Sun, 13 Feb 2011 22:32:47 EST You can't make someone want you http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4010097 I've been dealing with some boy problems lately. It's been distracting me from my normal happy life. I'm trying to put these guys behind me but it's hard. One of them (nickname: Dick Move) was a friend w/ benefits for almost a year. We were more than just FWB though. We were like a real couple except that he never wanted that with me. In fact, we ended things completely right after Thanksgiving 2010 when he met a girl that he DID want as a girlfriend. He has since become single again and trie... Thu, 10 Feb 2011 16:35:24 EST Sibling rivalry http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4004342 So, my sister is in town and it's been so great to visit with her without her kids around (I love them dearly but we get to have "adult" time without them) or anyone else in the family. It's nice to just hang out and have girl talk. We're having a slumber party in her hotel tonight which should be fun too. The only downside is that I am literally faced with how tiny and beautiful my sister is. She's a size 6, 6'0" tall and just gorgeous overall. I feel like a cow standing next to her. I know ...
