TREP13's SparkPeople Blog TREP13's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 1,200 calories This is a great, albeit long, article about the misconceptions society feeds us about women's health and fitness. Take a minute to read this article. I am glad I did. I feel motivated to hit the weight room and build some muscles!!! 344

bst/1200-calories_b_4816597.html?utm_h
p_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false#sb=2449
351b=facebook Tue, 4 Mar 2014 12:26:56 EST 30 days of healthy meals and a very long absence Hi there anybody who happens to be reading this! So, I haven't posted a blog in a year and that probably doesn't count because it was a survey and not a "real" blog. How can I explain my absence? Well, with excuses of course. Last December I moved from New York City to San Diego. It's been quite an adjustment but I am really glad that I made the big move. Leaving the greatest city in the world was a sacrifice but it was worth it to be closer to my family AND I am no longer in a long distance ... Wed, 23 Oct 2013 19:21:37 EST Another survey thing A. What are your favorite burger toppings? avocado, lettuce, onion rings

C. If you were a crayon, what color would you be? cobalt blue

D. Diamond or pearls? black diamonds

E. What exotic pet would you like to have? an elephant but I doubt I'd have the space for one

F. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? Hit and Run, it ... Tue, 2 Oct 2012 14:51:25 EST Taking the plunge So, after almost two years of membership I have *FINALLY* checked out my gym's pool. It was one of the selling points of the gym but I think I was intimidated by all of the lap swimmers. This past Sunday I decided to finally get in the pool and try to swim some laps.

I've always loved the water. There are pictures of me when I was only about 6 months old happily splashing in the pool. I enjoy the ocean and love just chilling in the pool whenever possible but swimming laps has alwa... Wed, 8 Aug 2012 11:27:22 EST A repeat performance (survey) Pretty sure I've done this one before but I'm bored. :)

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
Nope. My nana picked out my name.

2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
I cried the other day when talking about my grandfather that passed away in November.

3. Wed, 2 May 2012 14:44:15 EST Lighting a fire under my a$$ So, one of the best things about being in a loving, healthy relationship with a great man is that he loves me for me, thinks I'm gorgeous and wouldn't change a thing. The bad thing? He loves me for me and wouldn't change a thing. I've become complacent and lazy lately. True, I exceeded 1,000 fitness minutes per month in January and March but I haven't been putting in the effort to burn some real calories. I'm still going to the gym but I'm not exerting any real effort.

None of this... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 16:14:20 EST Content and seemingly absent So, I'm going to open this blog with a big ol' apology. Sorry for not being the Spark cheerleader I used to be. I've been a more passive member of this community for the past few months. I'm still here, Sparking every day, I'm just not being as vocal as I used to be. Sorry for that.

I guess the reason why I've been a little quieter is that my time is a lot more precious now. I started dating a really great guy a few months ago and, since it's long distance, he takes up a lot of my... Mon, 13 Feb 2012 15:55:07 EST So silly....and long I'm bored at work so I thought I'd steal these questions from SHAYLA24S. Enjoy!

1. Think of the last person who said I love you, do you think they meant it? ---Yep, it was my wonderful BF.
2. Would you date an 18-year-old at the age you are now? ---Uh, my BF is barely older than that. Yes, I robbed the cradle. :)
3. Wed, 11 Jan 2012 16:50:37 EST A little bit of venting *Excuse me while I rant/vent for a bit.

My BFF called me the other day because she was irritated that someone in her husband's family referred to her daughter as fat/chubby. Her daughter is 8 months old and is nowhere near fat or chubby. This bothered me (and her) because her daughter was getting an unnecessary label put on her based on her size. This issue just came up again when a friend of mine posted a pic of another friend's baby who was just born and someone commented "she ha... Wed, 14 Dec 2011 16:17:05 EST What doesn't kill you makes you stronger My gym recently started offering a boot camp on Tuesday nights. I've gone a few times so far and I definitely want to continue to go. They're also starting to offer a Ninja in Training class starting next week that sounds interesting. I mean, who wouldn't want to train to be a ninja? Anyway, as I was taking the class last night I started to process a list of pros and cons to being there. I thought I'd share them with you in no particular order.

Pros: I'm getting a great workout and... Wed, 23 Nov 2011 11:11:20 EST Heartbreak The world lost a very special man today and I lost my Pappy. I'm devastated over the loss of my beloved grandfather. He hasn't been doing well the last few months. He had a stroke in March that he just never quite recovered from. I know he is at peace now and in a better place and is happy but I can't help but be sad. This man was the head of our family. He was such an amazing person and I'm so upset that I'll never get to see his smile again or hear his bellowing laugh. I won't get to laugh ... Would you date an 18-year-old at the age you are now?

Well, I'm kind of dating a 22-year-old (I'm 33) and that's pretty close. He's an exception though and not the rule.

3. When’s the last time you were aggravated and happy at the same time?

Maybe during my half marathon. I was aggravated with my ... Thu, 3 Nov 2011 16:08:03 EST I know, I hear So, the title of the blog actually has nothing to do with the subject matter but it happens to be the name of the song that gave me some motivation last night. I went to the gym at around 7 pm to run a 5k for the Trick or Trot Virtual 5k on SP. As soon as I got to the gym, though, the manager asked me if I would try a new class they were offering. I have a hard time saying no to people (something I need to work on in my love life, but it doesn't apply here) so I obliged even though I really n... Wed, 2 Nov 2011 13:21:19 EST 13.1 miles to happiness I did something pretty extraordinary this past weekend: I ran a half marathon. Well, to be fair, I *completed* a half marathon (I didn't run the whole time). This was one of those accomplishments that I'm going to remember for a long time. But let me start from the beginning....

About four or five months ago I was looking for a local 5K to participate in and I stumbled upon this link for the Divas Half Marathon Series.
It looked like fun and ... Tue, 6 Sep 2011 11:11:48 EST A brand new goal I just read this article on SP about giving yourself a vacation as a reward for meeting a goal. I love this idea! I especially love it cause I'm already planning a mini-vacay and I like that I can attach a mini-goal to go along with it. If I don't reach my goal, does that mean I can't take the vacation? I hope not. I mean, I make the rules right? I say that as long as I make *some* progress then I can take the vacation. That's a good compromise.

OK, so here is the goal: Right now ... Fri, 26 Aug 2011 13:39:15 EST Worth the weight (loss) After losing 20 pounds, I decided that it was time to give myself a mini-reward. I figured it would be something to entice myself to push my workouts harder. I found this dress online that would be perfect to wear to work (I'm starting a new job next week) and purchased it in a size smaller (14 as opposed to 16) than I normally wear. I love my DONE girls and I'm especially loving this Sexy Beast Challenge. This week's mini challenge (in addition to 90 minutes of kickboxing videos) is to post at least three images that are positive or somehow motivating. I found a few that I liked but my absolute favorite is my adorable little niece showing me how much she loves me. Can you believe I moved across the country from that face? Wed, 13 Jul 2011 16:57:02 EST Things that make you say WOO HOO!!! I had an "a ha" moment last weekend, followed by a big, fat woo hoo! Let me start from the beginning. I went to Coney Island (for my first time ever) on Saturday for the mermaid parade. It was my friend's birthday and that's what she desperately wanted to do. So we braved the crowds (many of them in ridiculous costumes, including my friend) and watched the parade. It got boring after a bit so we decided to go on some rides. We saw this amazing looking rollercoaster that was called the Soarin'... Fri, 24 Jun 2011 10:58:03 EST No more excuses This was amusing. I'm going to stop the excuses and get my butt moving. Mon, 13 Jun 2011 14:39:29 EST 150 So, I don't keep track of how many days I've been on this journey or anything like that because I feel like if you're counting the days it means you're going to stop as some point. But I was checking out my Spark streaks and saw that this was day 150 for me on SP. Wow. That seems like a milestone of sorts and something that I should make a note of.

I'm still feeling pretty good about everything I'm doing. I've been really consistent with my fitness which is something I've struggled... Fri, 27 May 2011 14:36:15 EST Stolen from another member (weight loss quiz) Starting Weight/Measurements.
I'm not really 100% sure what my starting weight was because the scale I was using at the gym wasn't very accurate. I'm going to go with 235 because I think that's what it was at the doctor's office last year. I hovered around that weight for quite a while. I didn't measure (still haven't but I need to) but I was wearing size 18 (sometimes 20) pants and size 16 (sometimes 18) shirts. I'm sort of in between sizes right now but most of the clothes I own are sw... Thu, 26 May 2011 13:19:56 EST 30 days of music in one compact survey/blog I'm feeling like an overachiever. I think I'm going to do this all in one day.

day 01 - your favorite song
According to iTunes my favorite (most played) song is "Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z. Wed, 25 May 2011 17:03:39 EST Down and (working) out Things haven't been the best lately. I've been dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety. It all culminated yesterday when I had a panic attack on the subway and nearly passed out as my vision was fading. It was really scary.

Anyway, after starting off my day so poorly, I wanted to make sure I ended it well. I made plans to meet up with a friend after my Tuesday night class. Wed, 25 May 2011 14:57:34 EST "The high price of friendship" or "Why I'm eating poorly this week" I'm going to a wedding in California in a couple of weeks. I'm excited because I also get to visit my family for the first time since Christmas (including my grandfather who has been in the hospital since March with a stroke). Unfortunately the main purpose of this trip, the wedding, is making me broker than broke.

I live paycheck to paycheck as it is (NYC is a VERY expensive place to live) and this added expense is killing me. Mon, 23 May 2011 16:20:13 EST List of grievances Last night I was bored and started looking through a binder I've had since college that has all of these old poems, journal entries and papers from various creative writing classes. I found this one piece of paper that had a very long list of things that I hated about myself. It made me really sad to read it and see how much I hated myself back then. Not much has changed with my body physically since then (I'm probably about 10 pounds heavier) but so much has changed emotionally and mentally ... Fri, 6 May 2011 12:27:59 EST Keep on moving I went to a concert on Friday night and fell madly in love with the music (and the lead singer...he was so hot) they were playing. I've been playing the songs nonstop ever since. The good news about my obsession is that it's making me "chair dance" at work. I'm not logging this as fitness minutes (cause it's not) but I think it's good that in my sedentary job that I'm constantly moving even while I'm sitting down. I wish I could get up and dance around but then I really wouldn't get any work ... Wed, 4 May 2011 12:05:24 EST Bored at work 1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
Nope. Wed, 13 Apr 2011 13:25:11 EST The accomplishment was real I ran the Spark People Virtual 5K on Sunday. It was the first time I've ever participated in any kind of race, virtual or not. I'm really proud of myself for the training that went into it (I've never been able to run for more than a few seconds at a time) and the fact that I finished under the goal I set for myself. At first I set a goal of 50 minutes but I knew that was a little high since I can walk a 5K that fast. I set a more realistic, "challenging" goal of 40 minutes. I am proud to say... I'm running the virtual 5K on Sunday (4/10). I'm excited to finally get it over with and I am looking forward to accomplishing one of the goals I set out for myself. I originally gave myself a maximum time of 50 minutes but I know I can finish under 40 (I've done it a few times already). And, after this "race" is d... Tue, 5 Apr 2011 16:04:39 EST A matter of scale I weighed myself at the gym last night before and after my workout and both times it said something terrible. There is NO WAY that I could have gained back the 25 pounds I lost (it's only been 10 days since my last weigh-in). I haven't exceeded my daily goals or slacked off (much) on my workouts. Clearly this scale is broken or out of whack. I think I am going to have to suck it up and buy my own so that I can track my weight properly. I didn't want to have a scale in my apt because I don't w... Thu, 24 Mar 2011 15:26:19 EST Lost but not gone? So, Saturday when I went to the gym I saw a great number when I stepped on the scale. I almost didn't believe it. Actually, I didn't believe it at first and checked again at the end of my workout. It said 210. I haven't been that close to being under 200 pounds in almost a decade. The only problem with seeing this number is that I feel like it's not reflecting the truth. True, my clothes are fitting better and my face is definitely thinner but I thought that if I lost 25 pounds (which I have ... Mon, 14 Mar 2011 13:02:53 EST Just one Not as easy as you might think! Fri, 11 Mar 2011 14:12:33 EST Everyone's doing it, why not me? I decided to give up something for Lent this year. I haven't really done it in the past. The church I go to doesn't really "require" it so I never felt compelled to do it before. I have been wanting to give up alcohol for a while now and this seemed like a good time to do it. If I can make it through the 40 days of Lent, maybe I can make it 60 or 100 or forever. Drinking is bad for me and adds empty calories to my food tracker and takes the place of yummy things I could have instead.
<... Wed, 9 Mar 2011 11:07:26 EST Week 1, Day 1 I did the first day of training for the Virtual 5K yesterday. I was able to get through it pretty easily (I mean, I wasn't dying or anything). As soon as I had logged in my time I immediately went to a bike to log in more cardio minutes. And then I did some ST. Seriously, who is this girl I've become? Tue, 8 Mar 2011 17:19:27 EST Virtual 5K So, I decided to walk/run in the SP Virtual 5K next month. This is my first race EVER. I've been wanting to do something like this for awhile and this seemed like fun. I like the idea that I have a goal and something to train for. I've been out of town a lot the last two months so I haven't been getting to the gym as much as I was before. This will hopefully motivate me to do more and push my body harder. Anyone else want to do it with me? Virtually or not. :)
312 Sun, 6 Mar 2011 21:57:40 EST Back and better than ever I am back from my Sparkation (thanks to TAMMYTH64 for that word). It was great to be back in Southern California (San Diego and Palm Springs) but I was definitely going through SP withdrawal. I missed the beaches and the weather in SD (not to mention my amazing friends that are still there). I really need to find a way to move back there. Of course, if I did, I would probably gain a million pounds because the Mexican food and margaritas are so amazing . I did a good job of eating on my trip (... Fri, 4 Mar 2011 12:31:28 EST Impending doom So, I agreed to go to a (free) training session at the gym at 5 am today. What a mistake that was. Sure, it was a great workout but I ended up vomiting toward the end. Not sure what triggered that (too much water and not enough food?). I'm also coming down with a cold and feel awful. My throat feels swollen, I'm exhausted (that might have a little to do with my 4:30 wakeup though) and have a slight fever. I hope that I can kick whatever this sickness is in the next few days because I have a t... Wed, 16 Feb 2011 18:08:29 EST Not-so-happy Valentine's Day I've never been a fan of Valentine's Day, even when I was in a relationship. It's so much more depressing when I'm alone though. Anyway, I'm trying to stay positive and happy but work is stressing me out! Thank goodness I have stopped turning to food when I get overwhelmed at work. I packed a healthy lunch today with a healthy snack (yummy Fiber One bar) so hopefully this will be a healthy and happy day. Hope everyone else is doing the same.
129 Mon, 14 Feb 2011 11:25:31 EST Take it with a grain of salt So, I started tracking my sodium intake recently and it's been really high ever since I started tracking it. I'm not sure why it's so high (it exceeds the range by about 300 mg every day). I'm not eating particularly salty foods. Any ideas what foods have "hidden" extra sodium in them? My blood pressure is on the high side as it is so I should really work on lowering my overall intake. Sun, 13 Feb 2011 22:32:47 EST You can't make someone want you I've been dealing with some boy problems lately. It's been distracting me from my normal happy life. It's nice to just hang out and have girl talk. We're having a slumber party in her hotel tonight which should be fun too.
