I hit 149 this morning, and I am thrilled. 10 more pounds to go!!!

I am going through the Beck book again and it is helping me focus on the SMALL things that always become the BIG things.

My motivation is very specific these days!

At the end of April we are leaving for a two-week repositioning cruise from Tampa, FL to Barcelona, Spain. Once in Europe we will spend the next seven weeks in four different countries. The highlight of the trip will be walking ... Tue, 17 Jan 2017 09:06:28 EST Goodbye and Good Riddance, 2016 2016 sucked, pure and simple.

My mom passed away in March. I was honored and blessed to be the one to care for her during the last two weeks of her life.

After that there was her estate to settle. As the executrix I immediately launched myself into the task and it became my full-time job for the next 4 months.

2016 had physical challenges. I fell on my left knee-- once in January, and again in May. It really sidelined my activity but after xrays, an... Fri, 30 Dec 2016 15:12:36 EST I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! Good morning, Sparkpeople!

The past six months has been quite an adventure.

We sold our house. We took off in our travel trailer. We tooled around the US and Canada for about 5 months when we decided we needed to be closer to Michigan so I could visit my mother more often. She has terminal cancer and is in "pre-hospice" care. I have two siblings who live within an hour of my mom, but I felt so guilty traveling around, having fun, when they were shouldering all the ... Fri, 15 Jan 2016 09:40:14 EST A Day In Seattle...Now off to Boise... OMG, we were such tourists today!

We drove to the Park 'n' Ride and took the express bus into Seattle. We went to the Space Needle, the EMP Museum (Music, Science Fiction, Horror, and Pop culture).

THEN we went to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum, took an hour ride on a ferry around the Bay, went through the Seattle Aquarium, walked through the HUGE Pike Market (Farmer's Market), then caught the express bus back to our trailer park.

WHEW! Over 7 mi... Thu, 24 Sep 2015 23:32:56 EST Wow, How Time Flies! Hello, everyone! We were in Vancouver, British Columbia for nearly a month. We really enjoyed it. We stayed in an RV park at the base of historic Lion's Gate Bridge, and were able to walk across it into Stanley Park, one of the world's most famous urban parks. It is an island with a walking path completely around it. It was a total of 11 miles to the park, around the park, and back to the campground.

We learned a lot about First Nations people while in Vancouver. We also fl... Thu, 24 Sep 2015 01:58:32 EST GORGEOUS Glacier! Hi everyone,

We've been "off the grid" for two weeks. The first week we stayed at a campground inside Glacier National Park where we dry-camped (no electric or water at the site). We had SUCH a blast and did a number of very wonderful and challenging hikes. The Highline Trail was 12 miles long and MUCH of it is perched on narrow trails 2,000 feet above the canyon floors! It was quite harrowing in places! This is ME holding onto the garden hose embedded in the rock wall. Notic... Mon, 17 Aug 2015 21:33:34 EST Leaving Yellowstone Wow, how time flies!

We left Medora, ND and then proceeded to Hardin, Montana for a few nights. We wanted to see Little Big Horn National Historic Park. (Remember, I'm married to a history major.)

After that we moved on to Yellowstone National Park. OH MY GOSH! What an amazing park this is! We drove the Park Loop (ring road) and it was 155 miles. And that didn't even take us to the southernmost end of the Park!

We have been here a week and barely scratch... Thu, 30 Jul 2015 21:23:12 EST South Dakota, North Dakota Hmm. We spent a week in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and WHAT an amazing city. I would definitely consider living here if it wasn't for the winters!

Now we are on our way to Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. We'll be there tomorrow. We have a week IN the national park, camping with no utilities. Then we'll spend a week in a private campground OUTSIDE the national park with full utilities. Medora, ND is a small but lively town and I can't wait to get there!
... Sun, 5 Jul 2015 17:44:57 EST Motivator of the Day?? Well, that was quite a surprise considering I haven't been active on Spark for...two months? I sometimes read blogs, but even that has fallen by the wayside, so I don't know why I was given the honor!

What have I been up to? Well, a lot it turns out!

We were gone all of May visiting family & friends in Michigan. When we got back, we decided to do something we have talked about for 15 years: spend a year traveling in Europe. You'll see it's on my Sparkpage. As you ... Tue, 16 Jun 2015 03:54:15 EST My Choices...My Results Easter was a normal day for us. We don't have any family in the state and our hiking plans got rained out. So I cleaned the house!! We ate normally and I recorded everything as usual.

Last night I was reading a post on Facebook about a woman's family Easter. Her nieces were offering her candy, her aunt was trying to guilt her into eating the cheesy potatoes, her father offered her drink after drink, and her mother finally announced to the whole assemblage: "BETH IS ON A DIET! ... Mon, 6 Apr 2015 18:45:25 EST Boy, Was I Wrong We had NO CHANCE of hitting a PR in the Knoxville Half Marathon since the course was almost entirely either uphill or downhill!

Amount of elevation change was not mentioned on the website, and I just assumed it would be flat as most race courses are. Our goal was to complete 4-6 this year, so we are well ahead of schedule!

They have pacing groups for this race. Our fastest time ever has been 2:58, and we'd like to try to beat that. We are hoping to join a pacing group of 2:45 and see what happens.

I am not at my thinnest, but may be at my STRONGEST, so it's a possibility...

Of course I'm worried to death about the food but ... Thu, 26 Mar 2015 10:31:37 EST Good Morning, Sparkland! YES, I am still here! I haven't blogged much but I've been lurking, reading blogs, tracking my food, still spinning the wheel, etc.

Things have been busy in my corner of the universe. We had an awesome time with our daughter, SIL and two granddaughters in Massachusetts. We took 2-year-old Rebecca to Great Wolf Lodge, an indoor water park. I've really enjoyed everyone's blogs; you guys are kicking some serious butt out there in Sparkland! Motivation is running high, and I'm definitely feeding off that.

LOVE all the people doing/redoing the Beck books; and even those that are redoing Steve Siebold's FAT LOSER video program. Not a fan of the guy or his style, I think he's rather a pompous arrogant @$$. But he's all tough love, and sometimes that's just what we need to give us a motivating kick in the pants!
<B... Tue, 6 Jan 2015 12:34:24 EST Relocating my Spark Yes, Sparkfriends, I've been around Sparkworld, but doing more lurking than posting these days.

Like many of you, I've thoughtfully reviewed 2014 to see what I did right BUT even more importantly I'm looking ahead to 2015 to set new goals. I've been reading lots of blogs which have helped me gather information to make the necessary course correction in my own journey.

What did I do right in 2014? OK, I've been back a week and got back to the fitness center, pronto!

However, healthy eating and Sparking took a little longer to get back on track. I still have a zillion blogs to catch up on, but I am inspired by the ones I've read so far. Everyone is really motivating each other to stay on track! It's not our first Christmas and it won't be our last, so why EAT like it is??

Yesterday was a great "Day One". I drank my water, got in 19,000 steps, tracked EVERYTHING... Tue, 23 Dec 2014 12:57:00 EST Beckus Interruptus It was ambitious of me to think I would keep up my Beck book while getting ready for another trip.

Oh well!

Just three weeks after we returned from Nepal and India we are off again. This time to "wog" the St. Jude Half Marathon in Memphis on Saturday Dec. 6, then we buzz up to Michigan for a week or so to visit family and friends.

VERY busy week ahead; nearly every lunch and dinner accounted for with various folks we don't see enough of.

I'm appreh... Thu, 4 Dec 2014 14:14:36 EST No Beck Today... Today we walked/jogged 13 miles to prepare for the St. Jude's Half Marathon in Memphis next Saturday.

It was a SLOG; we've only been back from Nepal/India for a smidge over two weeks and I had that sinus infection and....we haven't had much time to prepare.

Yes, even though we were hiking, it's NOT the same as doing half marathons, and half marathons don't prepare you for hiking! It seems like we are ALWAYS scrambling to prepare for our events!

So no Beck tod... Wed, 26 Nov 2014 07:06:34 EST Re-Inspired Since getting back from "the big trip" 2 weeks ago I've had trouble getting traction to continue my weight loss journey.

First I was sick with a sinus infection, now the fitness center will be closed for the rest of the week. 46

But I've continued to Spark, resubscribe to your blogs, and actually re-signed up for Sparkcoach.

Reading blogs by Watermellen, Sandicane, and Gaby1948 on the Beck Diet Solution has also re-inspired me! But when we got home I found the few I had taken still on the camera.

There are roads in the mountains of Nepal, to be sure, but hundreds of small ethnic villages can only be reached by walking for days. The trails that connect these villages are often nothing but stone steps, up and down, back and forth, following the contours of the mountains. Or not!

In "populated" areas we were... Mon, 24 Nov 2014 17:42:10 EST Hiking in Nepal This was really the vacation of a lifetime! We were hiking in the foothills of the Annapurna Mountains which are a section of the Himalayas. We never got above 7,500 in elevation, but that didn't make it a cakewalk--we went up literally tens of thousands of stone steps!

Our first day of hiking we came across a Hindu temple high above Kathmandu where we each received a bindi on our forehead. Mon, 17 Nov 2014 13:00:44 EST Hello from Pokhara, Nepal Just a quick check in. We spent 3 days sightseeing around Kathmandu and spent the last 6 days trekking in the Annapurna foothills. Two of the days were grueling but the other 4 were moderate or easy. Today we are in Pokhara, which is busy with lots of Trekkers from all over the world-- Germany, UK, Australia, etc. not many Americans though. Sat, 11 Oct 2014 19:07:19 EST NOT as bad as I thought.... Thanks so much for everyone's kind words and support yesterday. All the kind words and comments really helped me to put the situation in perspective.

OF COURSE my mom wants me to go on this trip. She and my father also traveled extensively in their retirement. Packing is a multi-day/multi-week project. We will be gone a month and my PLAN is to take one small roller suitcase that can go in the plane and one LARGER suitcase that we will check. Mon, 29 Sep 2014 18:12:54 EST Physical Therapy! At long last, I was approved for PT.

I went Monday and the PT thinks I've pulled and inflamed some of the small muscles that connect my lower vertebrae.

So the treatment is 15 minutes of heat, 15 minutes of ultrasound treatment, and 15 minutes of massage. Yesterday I did 3.5 miles on the treadmill but only 15 minutes of a Pilates class -- too much strain on that hip. 39 I also have to be very careful about "pivoting", twisting and heavy lifting. I am not 100% by any means.

This morning TC and I did 7 slo... But I know myself. Truthfully I knew that if I didn't get a dinner break until 8 pm I probably would NOT stop at a hamburger without the top bun when I could eat anything & everything I wanted FOR FREE!

But then I started Sparking and I saw this on INDYGIRL's Page:

<img src=" Fri, 12 Sep 2014 08:48:08 EST Off To the Fair I still haven't gotten an appointment with a physical therapist yet. I was refused the referral: the doctor said she "wasn't comfortable" giving me a referral because "You didn't have any X-rays." WELL, WHOSE FAULT WAS THAT?
