So how can my heart rate get to 174 when jogging intervals, when I've been exercising vigorously for several YEARS? Why is TC's heart rate 130 when mine is 170, and I'm 8 years younger?

Well, no answer at my appointment today, but I have an echo stress test (I think that's what it's called) with a cardiologist. ... They are keeping me motivated. The challenge actually begins around September 26 and lasts for 12 weeks, so practically through the end of the year. It looks like a great team with lots of interesting things going on -- after 22 rounds, I think they've got it down to a science! So far it's a highly-organized challenge which ... Mon, 2 Sep 2013 09:57:46 EST The End is Near! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5471460 The end of the year, that is! Only 4 months left in 2013! Three quarters of the year is gone, gone, gone. My goal is to use this time and make my goal of 136.

There, I said it!

I'm pleased that in 2013 I was able to maintain my 147-150 range even on extended trips. Even though this year I lost my childhood friend, my father, and my former sister in law to cancer. My weight swings are getting smaller and I'm self-correcting faster. Progress is and has been made. <B... Sat, 31 Aug 2013 07:38:26 EST All over the place http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5465252 Thursday and Friday were driving days. On Thursday I got in less than 4,000 steps and on Friday, about 8,000. Today was the first full day at my mother's and TC and I got up early and walked/jogged 5 miles, and after dinner we all took a walk. Altogether it was over 20,000 steps.

Tomorrow is the memorial/luncheon for my nephew's mother, so I doubt there will be much exercise. Monday we will spend with TC's family so it will be lunch with the parents and dinner with the siblings... Sat, 24 Aug 2013 22:18:39 EST Update on Weight-Related Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5461711 How did I do on vacation? This is what I want, of course!

But seriously...my pattern is to do pretty well in the beginning and then just have a total meltdown toward the end. In May-June, when we were gone 8 weeks I ended up gaining 8 pounds, most of which was gained in June. (It's never the exercise component, it's what goes in my mouth that's the problem.) I kept my goal of only eating out one tim... Wed, 21 Aug 2013 07:12:23 EST Colorado Vacation with TOO Many Pictures! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5461123 Even though our vacation was cut short by a week, we had a great time. It was our first trip to Colorado but I don't think it will be the last.

I got to cross something off my bucket list, for sure -- white water rafting. From Mueller State Park, outside of Colorado Springs, we drove 80 miles to Canon City, CO, the home of the Royal Gorge. We had a full day planned!

Here's a picture of me in my rafting gear -- notice the cute little booties!

<img src="http... Tue, 20 Aug 2013 14:37:41 EST Time is Always Too Short http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5455871 This blog is kind of all over the place, so I hope you'll bear with me. My feelings are a total jumble.

I am really sad about the death of my former sister-in-law. She was only 50 years old. She was a woman who took care of herself. She was very thin, exercised a lot and watched what she ate. Her hair was always done and she had a standing appointment to have French manicures on her nails and TOENAILS!! She had lovely jewelry and always "dressed to the nines". Some would say... Thu, 15 Aug 2013 08:48:54 EST Hiking in CO and a Sad Turn of Events http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5453653 We have enjoyed our time in Colorado. The hiking has been beautiful but challenging. I think we've adapted well to the change in altitude, which is good news for our Peru hiking trip next month. We're at 9,500 feet now and the highest elevation for the Peru trip is 14,000. While that's still a big difference, we'll have 3 days or so of easy hiking and walking to acclimate to the higher elevation. I feel pretty confident that we'll do fine.

The sad news is that my brother's form... Tue, 13 Aug 2013 07:59:26 EST Wichita, Kansas -- Who Knew? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5447451 The reason I LOVE to travel is discovering hidden gems where you would least expect them.

When I planned this trip, Wichita was about 8 hours from home so would make a good stopping place. As I researched I found a museum called "The Museum of World Treasures" and I was hooked -- I mean, really? In Wichita, KANSAS? What a lark, right?

Well, we had an awesome day sightseeing yesterday!

I got up early and did 40 minutes of the Spark Video "Fit, Firm and Fired... Wed, 7 Aug 2013 09:50:23 EST July Results, August Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5440745 I stumbled in the beginning of July; we had just gotten back from our trip and then my birthday and our anniversary derailed me for a hot minute. But once that was over, I really got down to business.

July was good to me: I lost the 8 pounds I gained during the time we were away. I worked out hard and kept my step count above 15,000 for 28 out of 31 days in July. Here's my July activity report from Fitbit:

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeople.com/nw/1/0/l106475768... She seems so sweet and has told some cute stories on the SparkCoach videos. But when I got my weekly Fitbit report yesterday, I just had to give myself and Sparkfriend Marilyn a WOO HOO!

See why! 334 252

Wed, 31 Jul 2013 12:19:41 EST
