TRAILBLAZER6's SparkPeople Blog TRAILBLAZER6's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Working On It I did a good job today of working on nutrition and exercise. Still at my sister's house, but I'm able to get in some walking around the house and eating better now. I have turned down some of the things she wants to nachos tonight.

I'm getting back to my daily planner as the time is approaching when I will return home. Trying to get back into the habits I had before I left.

I have decided to weigh myself each morning for a couple of weeks and not freak out ... Sun, 11 Mar 2018 20:56:54 EST What I have Learned This will be a weird entry. I have been in a caregiving situation for the past 7 weeks. I started out good but things got out of control. So I am going to write what I have learned that doesn't work.

1. Sleep is vital. I had 3 weeks of interrupted sleep every night. This does not help with weight loss or making good choices.
2. Lack of sleep contributes to making poor (maybe comfort) choices. I started eating ice cream or sherbet, salty items. I was making good meal... Sat, 10 Mar 2018 10:55:00 EST Starting Again I am coming to the end of my caregiving for my sister who has total knee replacement. Coming up on 6 weeks away from home. I had a lot of hopes for nutrition and exercise, but realized in the 2nd week that I needed to lower my expectations.

First of all, I wasn't getting much sleep. Whenever she went down for a nap, so did I. My nights were filled with bedpan care - 2 to 3 times a night. So interrupted sleep did not help with food and exercise.

I must say I did... Thu, 8 Mar 2018 10:56:52 EST Future goals In 5 years I would like to have a healthy weight, BP, A1c and BMI.

In 10 years I would still like to be flexible and healthy enough to move on my own with little trouble.

I will still be exercising, eating healthy and stretching for flexibility. Sat, 21 Oct 2017 11:37:15 EST Beck Diet Solution I am a part of the team following the Beck Diet Solution book (pink). It has been 2 weeks and I am feel like it is making a difference in my behaviors.

I feel like I now have created Response statements to some of the thoughts that enter my head. I remember them more easily because I read them at least twice a day.

I still feel myself being challenged by desires to eat something not on my plan, at the wrong time or because I just want to. However, it is easier to de... Fri, 13 Oct 2017 18:45:07 EST Changing Behaviors I started the Beck Diet Solution Team and have found her suggestions and behavior techniques very beneficial. I read my ARC cards regularly and use statements to deal with sabotaging thoughts. Tue, 10 Oct 2017 11:14:13 EST Working on Behaviors I have been achieving my mini-goal I set last month. Have lost a pound a week. This month I am adding one more mini-goal - be mindful of my behavior when faced with an obstacle, worry or stressful situation and check what I do to confront it. An example... yesterday I had my haircut and had lots of errands, including buying groceries. When I got to the grocery store I felt the beginnings of......something. I couldn't tell if it was hunger or thirst. I had forgotten to take a bottle of w... Thu, 9 Mar 2017 11:00:24 EST Oprah and Me I have a connection to Oprah Winfrey..."I love bread! " It is my greatest sabotaging food. I've been eating too much. And I know it is emotional eating. I'm afraid of failing at weight loss. So I tell myself...Why start? But I know I need to stop thinking "failure" and look at things when they "don't work " as just that. Like Edison said, "I haven't failed. I have found (fill in the blank) things that didn't work." I am going to make some one week goals (longer ones just don'... Sun, 5 Feb 2017 16:36:27 EST Choice and Grace ONEKIDSMOM, in her blog today, got me to thinking (again) about how people and events (usually involving people) effect our lives for years. My sister-in-law had bemoaned for years how three very close relatives in her life (mom, aunt and grandmother) had deeply marked her by the things they said to her and their belief that she was not worth a great deal (her words). I met her when she was fifteen and actually watched some of this happen. I am from a family of very strong women who had ov... Sat, 24 Sep 2016 12:41:04 EST Blood Glucose and Blood Pressure. I may not be seeing a lot of movement in the scale numbers but my blood glucose readings are down and staying consistent...both fasting and post-evening meal. Also, my blood pressure readings are only slightly in the pre-hypertension range...125-128 range.

I'm counting these as some major improvements for me.

I have my A1c tested in a month. That will be another marker for me. Sat, 17 Sep 2016 13:39:22 EST Vacation Exercise We are out of state visiting our children and grandchildren. I get exercise in at the motels on our way to and from home. But while we are at our children's it is very difficult. We go to the zoo, the park and play with them at home. But it is not any continuous exercise. But I am anxious to get back to it. We start home tomorrow ... so tomorrow I can get back to regular continuous exercise. Mon, 29 Aug 2016 11:56:28 EST Changes I certainly needed to hear today's SparkCoach vlog. I have noticed changes in myself even though there might not have been much movement on the scale. I am bending easier, I don't crave some of the go-to items I like, and my decisions concerning food are much easier than they were. Fri, 26 Aug 2016 12:36:04 EST What do we do when we fall down? I was reminded today of an incident that happened when visiting my son and family. My grandson was about 18 months...running and working on his command of the English language. He fell down and my son said, "What do you do when you fall down?" To which my grandson said, "Get back up!" I looked at my son and said, "Batman!" He shook his head.

In the movie the son falls down the well and his father asks, "Why do we fall down? So we can learn to get back up."

This jou... Thu, 16 Apr 2015 17:57:39 EST See The Race to the End "Where does the strength come from to see the race to its end? It comes from within."

Chariots of Fire Sat, 4 Apr 2015 00:49:00 EST Supportive Family We returned yesterday from a week long visit with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren. I was a little worried about completing my exercises and eating healthily. I shouldn't have worried.

Our kids live right next to a hospital with a 1-mile track around it. I was able to walk that just about every day. I met some old friends at the local enclosed mall and walked around in the mall before meeting them. I used the Spark videos to complete the strength-training exercises... Thu, 2 Apr 2015 16:26:37 EST The World of If... As I was getting out of my car today at the park to take my walk, I saw a lady ahead of me. I thought, "If only I could walk that fast." In about 5 minutes another lady came towards me and again I thought, "I'd even be glad if I could walk THAT fast." I began to think about all the "ifs" I've had in my head. I seem to have my feet in the World of If lately. It's not a good world.

I thought about the old journalism adage, "Your story should always have the Who, What, Why, Whe... Tue, 17 Sep 2013 16:18:44 EST B12 Started taking B12 2 days ago and I think it is helping my energy. Hoping it will help with hair loss as well Thu, 27 Jun 2013 20:30:06 EST Spark Solution I chose to try Spark Solution because it appeared to be so well organized...and it was! Everything I needed was in the book with lots of additional information.

The results the first week were very surprising. I was never hungry or had cravings. I moved much better by the end of the week both in flexibility and walking.

The online support was something I liked a great deal. Not only did I get help from the coaches but from others involved in the program right along w... Sun, 19 May 2013 19:42:17 EST Begin Anew 40
I chose this emoticon because I am feeling so unsure. I have made a choice to buy the Spark Solution book and join the 2-week challenge team. I have had difficult time lately trying to keep motivated. I think it's because I have been feeling so bad about myself lately. Because of a thyroid condition and thyroid meds, I have lost a lot of hair on the top of my head. Because of this I have been called "Sir" many times lately. It's very discouraging. Along with the ne... Fri, 10 May 2013 17:09:03 EST Look Who's Talking! I was walking the mile track at a local park this morning and I was thinking about how my knees were complaining…”She can’t do this to us.” “This is too much.” “Did you hear the noise I made when she was getting up from her chair?” (From inside my head I hear a distant tapping.) The next thing I know the spine is chiming in. “Well, if you two are going to give up why should I keep working.” I realized I was already slumping. (Darn it! That tapping is turning into an irritating and muc... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 17:52:00 EST
