I told my friends I was 48 going on 15...maturity-wise. It was a great birthday, though. I was biking around Indiana, with 21 friends, seeing as many covered bridges as we could in a week. On the evening of my birthday, we had a party that I will always remember. Especially when it's a day of just riding around town, exploring and making up a route as I go. That's what I did yesterday and, of course, had a blast.

I'm up in the Green Bay, WI area, where we used to live. My kids live up here and I was feeling the "Mommy" urge to spend time with them. So, Monday morning I jumped in my car and drove 15 hours to get here. It's a one day bicycle ride sponsored by the Chattanooga Bike Club. There is a short, 25 mile family ride, a 62 mile metric century that climbs one mountain, and the Grand Daddy of them all...the full 100 miles that climbs 3 mountains.

This year, they had to modify the full century. It normally passes through Trenton, Georgia to climb the final mountain. Trenton was wiped out last week by the horrible torna... Sun, 8 May 2011 10:51:34 EST A tough week, but getting better! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4210916 Well, as you've all seen on the news, the south was hit with unbelievable storms. I live east of Chattanooga. We had 4, (yes, 4!) F-4 tornadoes rip through our county, along with many small tornadoes, high winds and hail. It was about 12 hours of storm waves that just kept coming.

We survived, which is more than over 300 people can say. We didn't have any damage to our home or even a branch down in our yard, which is more than thousands of newly homeless people can say.
<... I've biked 1,000 miles this month...so far!

It almost didn't happen today. I was supposed to go to Chattanooga to help sort through and organize the jerseys for the 3 State/3 Mountain Challenge, coming up on May 7th. I drove almost 20 miles before I got the phone call that our task was rescheduled for a different day. I wheeled my car around and started planning my bike ride as I returned home. Severe storms were headed our way and the wind was blowing strong, so I... I work out of my house, so I spent the most of the day in my jammies, sitting in my office. Got a lot done, though. After working, ,my plan was to run some errands on my way to Chattanooga to do the Beginner's Bike Ride.

I got to the rid... It was an hour drive to get up to Soddy Daisy, TN, where the ride started at 9am. There were 8 of us on a beautiful Easter morning. We rode from Soddy Daisy up to Dayton, TN, passing through little towns called Bakewell, Sale Creek and Graysville. It's a beautiful area, right along a mountain range. Needless to say, there are a lot of hills in this area. It's one of th... I've got this! I'll probably hit the 1,000 mark by Monday. Woo Hoo!!

I lead a club ride today. We left Red Clay State Park and headed north towards Cleveland, TN. It was about 21 miles to Dairy Queen, where we stopped for ice cream, and then fought that blasted wind all the way back. The total scheduled ride was about 44 miles long.

I wanted to get extra miles today, so I rode my bik... I've already broken my previous personal best for a month. This has been so much fun!

Today, I met with a friend in Apison, TN for a ride in the country. There was a strong wind from the south that we had to fight, but we decided that it would make us stronger. We only took one wrong turn today. After asking for directions twice, and trying to figure out the GPS on my friend's phone, we found ou... We started on the Northshore, crossed the Tennessee River on the Market Street Bridge, circled around through downtown, went through some urban neighborhoods, tested out some new trails and then too the Riverwalk back to downtown. It was a very slow paced ride, but it was so nice to play on our bikes.

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeople.com/nw/6/4/l6488... The weather forecast looked pretty ominous. I woke up to a gully washer of a thunderstorm. It actually did pass and I did get a ride in. Yeah!!!

My husband was given an old bike from a friend about a year ago and still had not tried it out. I think, watching us tour last week, might have sparked something. He got that bike out and wanted to "make sure it was all adjusted." Now, he's a... I was concerned about not getting enough miles for the day, so I showed up early and rode 9 1/2 miles before everyone got there.

Going out was easy, with a strong tailwind. Coming back was a different story. It has really been a windy spring! Oh, well, it makes me stronger...

We had a group of about 10 people. I was the only female. I th...
