I told my friends I was 48 going on 15...maturity-wise. It was a great birthday, though. I was biking around Indiana, with 21 friends, seeing as many covered bridges as we could in a week. On the evening of my birthday, we had a party that I will always remember. It was such a good time!

<B... Fri, 31 Aug 2012 10:00:29 EST A day on the bike Nothing is more fun to me than a day on my bike. Especially when it's a day of just riding around town, exploring and making up a route as I go. That's what I did yesterday and, of course, had a blast.

I'm up in the Green Bay, WI area, where we used to live. My kids live up here and I was feeling the "Mommy" urge to spend time with them. So, Monday morning I jumped in my car and drove 15 hours to get here. It's a crappy, boring drive, but the payoff is well worth it! An added... And I have a lot of work to do!

From June 3-9, I went on a bicycle tour called BRAN (Bike Ride Across Nebraska). I had such an awesome time!

We rode 467 miles from Minatare to Yutan in 7 days.

It was a 2 day drive to get to my friend Shirley's house from my house in Tennessee. Then, her husband drove us the remaining 5 hours to the start of the ride. We checked in, along with 600 other riders, and settled into our tent (home away from h... Fri, 15 Jun 2012 09:58:34 EST Disappearing act Well, kind of.

I'm packing up to leave for a couple weeks. Next week, I'll be pedaling my butt across the great state of Nebraska. 455 miles in 7 days. Can't wait!! It's going to be hard work, but so much fun at the same time.

This will be the first tour I'm doing that I will be staying completely in tents along the way. I did cheat and I hired the tent service. They will have my tent set up for me with an air mattress, lawn chair and fresh towels every evening. ... Wed, 30 May 2012 13:00:45 EST Stupid cold!! April and May have been rough months for my immune system. I always pride myself on never getting sick. Well, a nasty cold has caught up to me with a vengeance!

It all started when I went down to Atlanta to babysit my great niece. Everyone in that house was sick. I was surrounded by sickies!! After kissing that baby for 3 days, I caught it, too. For a few days, I felt like crap. Then....i started to feel better.

Just when I thought I was free and clear...I woke up... Tue, 22 May 2012 08:41:44 EST 2012 3 State/3Mountain Challenge Well...for me it was a 3 State/1 Mountain Challenge. This is a yearly ride put on by the Chattanooga Bike Club that draws about 2,000 riders. This year, they offered more choices of rides. (100, 90, 62 or 25 miles) I did the metric century (62 miles).

This is all of the metric century riders lined up to leave. The longer riders left 45 minutes before us. I can't wait to get home so I can get some rest!!

Gabby and I had another busy day, finding our way around to shop. (Thanks goodnes for GPS!) We had a nice afternoon and she is a very good shopper.

She's just a little too small for biking, yet.

In the evening, I went for a trail ride with my two handsome nephews. It was only a 13 mile ride... Wed, 25 Apr 2012 10:23:24 EST Babysitting On the way home from my ride on Sunday, I got a call from my nephew's wife. "Help! Our nanny quit at the last minute." They can get the baby into her corporate day care in May, but needed help until then. Well, I can't do the whole time, but I could give them 3 days.

So right now, I'm down in Atlanta...a full time nanny. Keep in mind that it's probably been 20 years since I spent a whole day with a 10 month old baby! Wow! All of those memories are flooding back. I forgot ho... Tue, 24 Apr 2012 08:53:43 EST Pity Party Okay, I've been attending this pity party this week. The food has been great, but there are no cool kids here! The only way to get out is opening the door and walking out. That's what I'm going to do. It just seems like a long walk home!

Here's how I was invited to the party:

My week started with an argument with my husband one evening. The next morning, I was ready to move forward, but he decided to hold a grudge. I got no conversation and one word answers for 2 d... Fri, 20 Apr 2012 09:14:03 EST My favorite ride Today, I was able to do my favorite ride in Southeast Tennessee. I thought I'd share a little of it with you.

Getting ready to roll out of Webb's Store

This was an advertised club ride and 17 riders showed up, even though many had to drive over 50 miles to get there. Sat, 7 Apr 2012 20:49:04 EST Headed Home (long, rambling recap of the last couple weeks...) It's really been a busy couple of weeks! Now, it's time to go home and have things slow down a little.

For those of you who don't know, I live in Tennessee, but we run a small consulting business up in Wisconsin (where we're originally from.) We come up here as much as needed and it seems like lately we're needed more than usual. Sat, 31 Mar 2012 10:14:34 EST Goodbye to a friend... Today, I went to a "Celebration of Life" for my friend Amy. She passed away on Monday. She was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago, fought a good fight, but lost in the end. They could never even tell her what type of cancer she had. She went through traditional treatments and experimental. Though we hoped for a miracle, nothing worked.

Amy was the perfect example of someone who lives life the right way and still gets the short end of the stick. She ate healthy, power walked ma... Sat, 3 Mar 2012 20:31:14 EST Getting my groove back It's been rough lately. Don't know if it's a case of SADD (Yes, I think southerners get that, too) or if it's just all the junk in life piling up. I do know that I have to leave it behind and move forward.

I think everyone goes through times of feeling sorry for themselves. I won't bore you with all of my whining, but it involves distant grown children, a bad hairdo, not fitting into pants I bought a year ago and having to go back to wearing glasses. There it is in a nutshell. ... Sun, 19 Feb 2012 12:14:04 EST Change and relationships I watched a show last night that I had never seen before. It was "My 600 Pound Life." This episode followed a woman named Melissa over her 7 year weight loss journey after gastric bypass surgury.

Now, I've never been in the situation of having to lose 500 pounds, but I did notice something similar in our lives.

Changes in our relationships as we change our lives.

I wish I had a dollar for everytime my husband said, "You've really changed." I don't know how ... Thu, 2 Feb 2012 11:48:02 EST Interesting Quote About the Joy of Biking/Eating I haven't had a lot of time for Sparkpeople this weekend and my eating has been atrocious, but I thought I'd jot out a quick blog to share something I read.

I was given the book, "It's All About the Bike" by Robert Penn. It's a good book about a man building his dream bike. It's interesting because he goes into the history of all the different components.

Here's the quote that caught my eye:

"Food is an important part of cycling. Whenever I've been on a bik... Mon, 26 Dec 2011 10:06:23 EST The Results Are In! The results were posted from the 5k I did on Saturday. (I have to start with a disclaimer, though. They had to change the route at the last minute due to the Riverwalk being flooded. This made the route actually 2.9 miles long. Not quite a full 5k.)

My official time was 28:22. I placed 5th in my age group (25 people)!

I'm not a very competitive person (except against myself), but I was interested in these results because it was my first organized run. I wanted to ... Mon, 5 Dec 2011 22:04:58 EST Running a 5k.....CHECK! I did it! I ran my first organized 5k...without walking! That was my goal and I did it! My unofficial time was about 28:30. I'll find out the real time on Monday.

It was the First Things First Santa Stroll in Chattanooga. A group of us from the bike club signed up, some for the 5k, some for the 10k and some for the 1 mile walk. It started in front of the Hunter Art Museum. I walked a couple blocks to the start while it was still dark. Took this awesome picture:

... Sat, 3 Dec 2011 17:38:06 EST Kitty didn't make it Unfortunately, our little kitty didn't make it. We took her to the vet today and saw that she had a large cancerous tumor under her tongue. We had to make the decision to put her down. It was hard, but it was the right thing to do.

We have never been cat people, we prefer dogs, but this little unassuming fluff-ball snuggled into our hearts.

In May of 1993, my eldest son (then 7 years old) and I were at a rummage sale. There was a box of free kittens. After some begg... Mon, 28 Nov 2011 19:10:55 EST I'm home! It was a fun time visiting everyone in Wisconsin, but it wasn't the healthiest trip. I didn't bring my bike, but if I had, there probably wouldn't have been too much riding. It was cold and dreary most of the days we were there.

I did do some jogging while I was there to train for the 5k I signed up for next weekend. I am able to run an entire 5k, and that was my goal. Hopefully, I will do it with no issues when it counts!

Here's a picture I took one day while I was ... Sun, 20 Nov 2011 21:21:54 EST Stress, anger and sore legs Okay, so I'm up in Wisconsin right now and there is so much going on it's crazy.

Where do I start....

First of all, I came up here to see my kids. My husband had to come up for business, so I came with because I really miss these boys. I don't know how much they really miss me, though. On the way here, my oldest son (25 years old) was texting me, telling me how much he missed us. He said things in his life were messed up and he really needed someone to listen. (Noth... Tue, 15 Nov 2011 22:58:03 EST Trying something new Well, there was a time that I stayed in my little box. It was safe there and I knew exactly what to expect. People would suggest things and my first reaction was, "I could never do that!" I'd like to tell you that that box was broken down and recycled years ago! Now, if someone mentions trying something, I say, "What the heck! It's worth a try."

A couple days ago, a friend asked if I'd be interested in running a 5k in Chattanooga. Well, I didn't hesitate. It will take place ... Fri, 4 Nov 2011 14:22:11 EST 2nd Annual Bike, Binge and Burn First of all, I have had a great week of eating healthy and logging my food. Yeah me!

Now, for the fun...

My husband and I hosted our 2nd Annual Bike, Binge and Burn Party yesterday. It's a healthier way to have a party. Mon, 31 Oct 2011 14:08:27 EST Little voices Remember the old sitcoms that had someone trying to choose between good and evil and they had an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other? I swear if I looked in the mirror, I would see them whispering in my ears! However....I think I've been listening to the wrong one! My decision making has been terrible!

When I reached my goal weight last spring, I was so comfortable at that weight. I was in a size that I liked and happy with what I looked like...even the remaining lum... Fri, 21 Oct 2011 09:26:18 EST I need a spark! I've been kind of quiet lately. I guess I'm in a funk.

Fall is a hard time for me. I'm a Spring/Summer person and tend to get a little depressed in the fall. My move from Wisconsin to Tennessee helped a little, but it's still there.

I've been exercising pretty regularly. I bike about 100-150 miles per week. My diet has been terrible. I've slipped back into old habits. Right now, I weigh as much as I did a year ago. Pretty depressing after hitting my goal weight l... Tue, 11 Oct 2011 12:51:43 EST Enough water already! Well, considering all of the rain that has gone through here, I have plenty of time to get other things done around here. That includes blogging!

First of all...Holy Rain, Batman!! I sat and watched it continuously rain yesterday. It was the first measurable rain around here in months. Everything was dry and dying. August set a record for the dryest month ever in the Chattanooga area. Well, we made up for it,..and some...yesterday. When I went to bed last night at 11 o"clock... Tue, 6 Sep 2011 08:48:35 EST Bike Tour, Birthday Century and Stuff (lots of pictures) Well, it's been a while since I posted a blog. Part of the reason is that, unfortunately, eating right has not been the priority it should be. Why? Don't know. What I do know is that I run into this every year at this time. I'm not too worried about it. I'll get back on track soon. I know what I have to do.

Another reason is that I've been busy! Life is just crazy lately. I saw my husband a total of 7 days in July, between his business trip and my long, planned bicycle tou... Wed, 24 Aug 2011 19:56:22 EST A Day of Crashes Wow! What a day! It's one of those in which you just want to go back to bed and pretend it didn't happen!

Normally, I would bike on Saturday. Today was different. My mother, 3 of my friends and I planned a trip up to Crossville, TN to see a play and go out for dinner. My mom (who's 80 years old) was to meet me at my house and we would drive to meet the others on the way. Well, she always wants to take her car, so she can smoke because smoking's not allowed in my car. This ti... Sat, 16 Jul 2011 22:57:03 EST Frumpy, Fat Pictures Today, I went through volumes of old photo albums to get pictures for my oldest son. Tue, 12 Jul 2011 18:44:44 EST Odds 'n Ends Weekends are tough for me. I rock on the routine of the weekdays, but once the weekend comes, healthy choices are compromised. That being said, I'm not going to beat myself up about it. It's okay. As long as I'm aware of what's going on and put in extra effort during the week, I can live with it.

Every Friday night, we go out to eat with my mom. That's what usually sets me off. So many choices...usually not a lot of healthy ones on the menues. Even so, we enjoy our night out... Mon, 27 Jun 2011 20:04:19 EST My First Unsupported Bike Tour Another great weekend, riding with my friends!

In September, one of my friends wants to have a club ride up to Athens, TN to tour the Mayfield Dairy. It will be an overnight trip with someone driving a support vehicle, carrying our gear.

He came up with a route, but wanted to try it out. He asked a few people to come with and word got out. 12 of us did the ride. This pre-ride would be unsupported, meaning we each would have to carry what we would need for the weekend... Bring it on!!!

I have always loved summer. Growing up in Wisconsin, I suffered through those long, miserable winters for about 2 1/2 months of warmth. All of the things I enjoyed were summer activities: swimming, fishing, playing at the park, biking, picnics, laying in the get it.

After getting married, I lived in more cold places: Northern Maine, Northern Michigan, Germany and back to Wis... Wed, 8 Jun 2011 18:12:12 EST What a great trip! Well, I'm back home now. It's been a busy, fun, cold two weeks. I didn't find much time to keep you all posted during the trip because living in a tent, without electricity, limits computer use. Here's a summary of the rest of my trip.

The weather was terrible most of the time. We were lucky to get a day in the 60's that was dry. It was good sleeping weather, though....most nights. One night, we did have to bail to my son's appartment floor because it was raining all day and ... Fri, 3 Jun 2011 10:00:30 EST A Crazy, Wet Festival Yesterday, I planned to do a bike ride with some friends. (Yes, you read that correctly.)

Some of us decided to meet early to get some extra miles. We met at noon, got on our bikes and it started to sprinke. We rode anyway! By the time we got back it was pouring. We were soaked! But we got 14.5 miles in.

Some of us changed into dry clothes. Needles to say, the bi... What fun!

We left yesterday morning, from our home near Chattanooga, on the motorcycle to come up to Green Bay, WI. We own a business up here and have to come periodically to make an appearance to our customers. It also gives me an opportunity to visit my boys, who I miss terribly. ... Thu, 19 May 2011 23:40:59 EST Today...I was scooter trash! lol Forecasted temperatures were supposed to be in the nineties. (I think they made it there!) Most people would hide in their air conditioning, but not me! I love the heat!! For me, there is nothing better than being outside in hot weather. It's a one day bicycle ride sponsored by the Chattanooga Bike Club. There is a short, 25 mile family ride, a 62 mile metric century that climbs one mountain, and the Grand Daddy of them all...the full 100 miles that climbs 3 mountains.

This year, they had to modify the full century. It normally passes through Trenton, Georgia to climb the final mountain. Trenton was wiped out last week by the horrible torna... Sun, 8 May 2011 10:51:34 EST A tough week, but getting better! Well, as you've all seen on the news, the south was hit with unbelievable storms. I live east of Chattanooga. We had 4, (yes, 4!) F-4 tornadoes rip through our county, along with many small tornadoes, high winds and hail. It was about 12 hours of storm waves that just kept coming.

We survived, which is more than over 300 people can say. We didn't have any damage to our home or even a branch down in our yard, which is more than thousands of newly homeless people can say.
<... Wed, 4 May 2011 21:59:19 EST Day 26 of the 1,000 mile challenge...I DID IT!!! Yeah, me!!! I've biked 1,000 miles this far!

It almost didn't happen today. I was supposed to go to Chattanooga to help sort through and organize the jerseys for the 3 State/3 Mountain Challenge, coming up on May 7th. I drove almost 20 miles before I got the phone call that our task was rescheduled for a different day. I wheeled my car around and started planning my bike ride as I returned home.
