TLG71567's SparkPeople Blog TLG71567's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 6 miles Yesterday was a good day. I walked nearly 6 miles and wasn't even sore. I am amazed daily at how much better I am feeling since they got me on the right medicine. My lymph nodes are shrinking, as are the granulomas in my lungs. It's been a long year, but I finally feel like my normal self! It's a great feeling. Sun, 25 Jun 2017 10:28:16 EST Feeling great. I haven't felt this good in about six years. Getting back on track with weight loss finally. I have lost 20 pounds since December. Getting close to 200. Woohoo!
Sat, 24 Jun 2017 09:37:53 EST Doing well The meds are finally taking effect and I am doing so much better. I finally have some energy and am trying to rebuild some strength and stamina. I have lost 19 pounds since December and have been going to the gym since January. Things are finally looking up. Sun, 21 May 2017 10:49:57 EST Sarcoidosis Does anyone on here deal with sarcoidosis? I was diagnosed with it in May and have been sooooo tired as a result of it. It has attacked my lungs, my lymph nodes, and my vocal chords. It makes it harder to breath and to talk. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with it. Fri, 1 Jul 2016 11:25:23 EST It's been a long time It's been about two years since I have really been active on here. My husband and I have had so many health issue it has been ridiculous. He has almost died numerous times and has spent a combined total of three months in hospitals. I am not far behind him. I am so tired of health issues. I keep trying to stay positive and I have managed to keep my weight off, but haven't lost anymore. I am going to try to get more active on here to try to help me focus again. Wed, 29 Jun 2016 09:51:12 EST Last day Tonight is the last night for my second job. I have been teaching adult reading classes for the last 7 years and I finally decided that it was time to move on. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, but it's time. I am really going to miss it, but am looking forward to doing lots of new things. I am excited about having the time to do things again. I have started cooking again. My garden is growing like crazy and I am actually staying on top of it this year. I am doing some art projects. Life ... Thu, 19 Jun 2014 15:49:46 EST Redescovering myself Well I have been out of school for almost two weeks now and I have to say it has been a wonderful two weeks. I can't believe how much I have gotten done. Next week is my last week for my second job. I have been teaching an adult literacy class for the last 7 years and have loved it, but I am so tired of always working. I decided that it was time to have more in my life than work. I want to rediscover myself. The one that I lost years ago when I had my son and life became about supportin... Fri, 13 Jun 2014 12:46:54 EST Busy Day Today was a super busy day. I mowed our lawn, which took three hours with a push mower and gardened for two hours. Boy am I sore. Sat, 7 Jun 2014 23:49:14 EST Just what I needed I read a really good article today. It reminded me of some important things. Live in the moment. Enjoy life right where you are. Keep working toward my goals, but appreciate the small progresses that I have made. Sometimes I get caught up in the future. You know, "When I get that bill paid off, everything will be better. When I get down under 200, I will be so happy. If my husband would only ..." I am truly blessed and I need to remember that everyday.
Here is a link to the ar... Thu, 5 Jun 2014 15:28:13 EST Good day I didn't make the best choice for breakfast today, but I adjusted the rest of the day and stayed in my calorie range. So I will chalk that up as a win. On to tomorrow. Wed, 4 Jun 2014 03:24:48 EST Self-sabotage I have noticed that I seem to be my own worst enemy. I find myself making poor eating choices and then saying mean things to myself. I wouldn't talk to anyone else that way, but I do it to myself daily. It's not just eating either. I do the same thing with my financial goals. I want to pay a bill off, but I keep doing things that cause that not to happen. I have to change my strategies and have been reading the articles on here trying to get inspiration. Why does it have to be so hard ... Tue, 3 Jun 2014 11:03:10 EST Fun and see through shirts. Yesterday was such a nice day. We watched my great niece and nephew play T-ball, then picked up some lunch and had a picnic at the park. We also spent some time with my sister-in-laws sister and had a really nice visit.

When I got dressed in the morning, I pulled out a sleeveless shirt that was a kind of sheer material, but with lots of pattern on it. I had a button down shirt that I was wearing over it like a jacket, but you couldn't see through it anyway because of the patte... Sun, 1 Jun 2014 10:39:02 EST It's officially summer for me! School is completely finished now. I spent the afternoon with my mom, doing a little shopping and some errands. Tomorrow we are going to watch my three year old great-nephew and five year old great niece play T-ball. We will spend the day with my son and my nieces. Then Sunday we will be back to yard work. Fri, 30 May 2014 22:56:59 EST Done Today was the last day of school. I will really miss my kids. My room is packed and cleaned. Tomorrow we have an inservice day and then a final workday on Friday and it's summer! Woohoo!!! I can't wait. Wed, 28 May 2014 22:44:35 EST Last day Tomorrow is the last day of school for the students. Teachers finish up on Friday. While I am really looking forward to school being out, I am really going to miss my students. On the other hand, hopefully I can focus more on my health and getting this extra weight off. Tue, 27 May 2014 21:39:01 EST Whew! I have spent the last three days in the garden, at least 7 hours a day. Oh, am I sore, but I got so much done and the gardens look so nice. It is so rewarding when it is finished. This year I put in parsnips, an assortment of lettuces, rainbow carrots, regular carrots, two kinds of beets, sweet potatoes, five types of green beans, snow peas, leeks, scallions, chives, basil, rosemary, two kinds of thyme, oregano, rhubarb, parsley, five kinds of tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, acorn squa... Mon, 26 May 2014 21:08:17 EST Headed out to the garden Today is planting day. Yesterday I got all of the beds ready and today all the plants go in. I will definitely get all of my exercise in today. Hopefully I can make better choices with food today. Sun, 25 May 2014 11:46:24 EST Time to renew my commitment I have been having a really hard time staying committed lately. I have gained back some weight and am not doing very well at night. I do fine during the day, but in the evening I suddenly lose control and eat a bunch of junk, which then puts me between 1600 and 2000 calories. Everyday I say the same thing, "I need to get my act together and do this. I don't want to be fat anymore. I can do it." And then every evening I screw it up again. I know what I need to do, but I keep giving in t... Sat, 24 May 2014 12:24:43 EST Busy weekend I had a wonderful weekend. Celebrated my great nephews 3rd birthday and spent the whole day in Columbus. I even got to spend time with my son who I haven't seen in over a month. Unfortunately I didn't do very well with my food choices, but did much better today. I am really looking forward to warmer weather so I can start walking outside again. I miss it. As for my bucket list. I am now on my 5th book since the start of the year. I didn't get the other two things done, but I hope to t... Sun, 2 Feb 2014 22:03:40 EST Long time, no see It's been quite a while since I have posted on my blog. I started working on my bucket list. One of the items that I put on that list was to start reading again. I had gotten out of the habit of reading and I really missed it. I am happy to say that I have read 2 1/2 books in the last two weeks. I am so glad that I wrote my bucket list. It has been good for me to see all these things as goals that I want to accomplish. Things that I can check off. Some of them are really simple things... Thu, 23 Jan 2014 22:05:26 EST Bucket list written I finally got my bucket list done. I wrote it out on a large sheet of poster board and am hanging it in my living room. I broke it down into three categories: short term, medium term and long term. Some of them are very simple like making marshmallows or building a snowman, others are more adventurous like going to England, Ireland and Scotland and visiting castles. They are mostly things that I have said I wanted to do, but never seem to get around to doing. Losing the rest of this weig... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 01:39:11 EST I need bucket list ideas I have come to the conclusion that I live a very dull life. No adventure. All work and no play. That sums up the last 7 years. I want to come up with a bucket list, but I need ideas. Please help! Mon, 16 Dec 2013 22:05:39 EST Woohoo! 1. Laptop is here and is awesome!
2. IEP's are done!
3. Mom got a laptop too and she is loving it. She is 73 and it is her first one!
4. Only one more week till winter break.

Yahoo! Awesome! I can't wait!! Sat, 14 Dec 2013 19:49:53 EST Still waiting Well this storm has slowed down delivery of my laptop. It was supposed to be here on Thursday, now I guess it will be Monday. Wahh. : ( I can't wait for it to get here.

On other fronts, it is so cold here. We have snow and ice and wind. I have not been out walking and I can tell. I haven't lost any weight. No exercise and off track eating isn't helping. I will be glad when December is over. It's so much easier to stay on track in January. LOL Have a good weekend. Sat, 7 Dec 2013 20:46:20 EST Excited I am so excited. I got a new laptop. I have only had the use of my work laptop for the last two years and that has made me feel very limited. I finally bit the bullet and got one for myself. I can't wait till it gets here. Mon, 2 Dec 2013 22:24:51 EST After Thanksgiving Well, the holiday is over and now it is time to get the house back in order. Furniture needs to be put back, piles need to be sorted, bills need to be paid, etc. I have already gotten the kitchen in order, but I have to package up the leftovers and get them into the freezer. I used to eat them up over the next several days, but this year, I am packaging them up into small servings and putting them into the freezer so that I can enjoy them over the next several months. It's amazing the dif... Sun, 1 Dec 2013 15:23:48 EST Thanksgiving I made it through Thanksgiving without overeating. I tried really hard to have small amounts and stopped eating before I was full. That was the first time ever that I left the table without being stuffed at the end of Thanksgiving dinner. We only had two mishaps. A crystal bowl full of broccoli salad fell off the table and broke, and I burned the creme brulee fudge. Other than that, everything else was delicious. We ended up having 23 people come and had so much fun. I made crepes toda... Sat, 30 Nov 2013 18:35:14 EST Two more pounds Woo Hooo!!!! I lost two more pounds and have now lost a grand total of 50 pounds! I can't believe it. I am now only ten pounds from being in ONEDERLAND! I haven't been this light in 20 years!!! Wow! Tue, 26 Nov 2013 07:34:41 EST Stressed I am losing my mind! I am working on four IEP's at work that are all due right around Thanksgiving, the internet keeps going out so I haven't been able to work on them as much as I would have liked, they keep changing the requirements, and I foolishly decided to rearrange three rooms of my house which in turn involved reorganizing two rooms in the basement. I have 21 people coming for Thanksgiving, the house isn't done and I have to make room for 10 of them to sleep over. AAAAAAAhhhhhhhh!... Tue, 19 Nov 2013 23:20:21 EST I reached a goal! Four years ago I was 260 pounds and was diagnosed with Diabetes. I was put on Metformin and lost 48 pounds pretty quickly. My doctor said that I didn't need to be on it any more because I had lost so much and my blood sugars were good. I was thrilled. Unfortunately, I slowly started regaining the weight and got back up to 248. I had a bunch more health problems this past spring and finally decided that I had to change my life. So I started to diet and lost a little bit of weight. Then ... Sat, 9 Nov 2013 21:30:06 EST Yeah!!! I'm so excited. I just went through my closet and got rid of a whole bunch of pants that were too big. Tonight I went through a pile of pants that were too small this summer and all but one pair fit. Woo hoo! And I measured my waist and it's 39 inches, hips are 48. I haven't had a waist in the 30's in like 23 years. The next big goal is to get under 200 pounds. Mon, 4 Nov 2013 19:06:24 EST 20,000 steps! I went for a walk today with my son. He wasn't feeling well so he wanted to turn around. When we got back I decided to keep walking. I ended up walking for 2.5 hours and did a total of 8 miles or 20,000 steps. I actually wore a hole in my sock! LOL I am really pleased that I was able to do it. I do need to get some better shoes though. My feet are a little sore. Sun, 3 Nov 2013 17:09:45 EST Wonderful weekend It was a really busy weekend. My little niece turned five, so her dad and step mom had a birthday party for her. We all went to the Columbus Zoo for about three hours before the party, then went to the party, then went to a craft store and then out to dinner. It was a long day, but quite enjoyable.
School is going well. I am just really tired. Trying to get in more exercise. Walked almost 13,000 steps today, so I felt good about that. I am only 2 pounds away from my lowest weigh... Mon, 28 Oct 2013 21:19:00 EST Navy Well, my son is officially in the Navy. He was accepted in to the Nuclear Engineering program. He is taking his oath tomorrow and will go to boot camp in April. I am so proud of him. Wed, 23 Oct 2013 23:00:52 EST Walk, don't run That's what the doctor told me today. No more running. I guess I waited too long. It's funny, we always seem to think we have all the time in the world. For most of my adult life I have put off getting in shape. Oh I'd exercise for a little while and eat healthy for a little bit and then life would get busy and I lose focus. I finally started to find a balance when I joined SP. This fall I decided that I wanted to run a 5K. Considering I hadn't run in about thirty years, this was a bi... Mon, 14 Oct 2013 21:21:13 EST Back on track It's been a rough month, but I finally feel like I am getting back on track. It's funny, I have never thought of myself as a stress eater. I never sit down and eat huge amounts of food when I am stressed out, so I thought I had a handle on my emotions. Interestingly, I looked at my nutrition tracker over the last month and discovered that I was off track for over half of the days. That hasn't happened since I started with spark people. I started really thinking about what I was doing and... Sun, 13 Oct 2013 15:27:08 EST Fitbit is awesome Back in mid-September I lost my Fitbit Zip after having it for only a little over a month. I was so bummed. I went on their website to see about ordering a new one and saw that they sold the dongle by itself, so I sent them an e-mail explaining what happened and asking if I could just buy the zip itself. They sent me an e-mail asking some questions. I responded and they sent me an e-maill back saying they were sending me a replacement! It came yesterday. I can not believe that they sent... Sat, 5 Oct 2013 01:06:24 EST Good news Much of the last month has been spent going to doctor's appointments. This Monday I was told that I needed surgery immediately for a herniated disc, which sent me into a panic. I do not have many sick days available, so surgery would wipe us out. I saw my neurosurgeon today and he said we could try some medication and that he didn't think that I needed surgery. I have never been so happy to hear a doctor's voice. Hopefully the meds will help with the problem, cause I really don't want to... Thu, 3 Oct 2013 23:33:45 EST Crazy week This last was crazy. I had an appointment with an endocronologist, a neurologist, a CT scan and an MRI. I am worn out. Tomorrow I go back to the neurologist and then Tuesday I see a pulmonologist. I am so tired of doctors. I hope I get some answers soon.

I didn't get to run last week at all. I plan to start back up tomorrow. Sun, 29 Sep 2013 20:38:23 EST Husbands birthday Today is my husbands birthday. I had a little party for him and still managed to stay in my calorie range and got in 3.18 miles today. All in all it's a good day. Mon, 23 Sep 2013 23:22:46 EST Week one done I am so pleased. I finished week one of the 5K training today. There have only been two segments that I have not completed the running in. They were both uphill and I had to walk the last little bit of it because of my breathing. I do think that my lungs are getting stronger though. I am able to take deeper breaths and haven't had to use my rescue inhaler while running. So this is really good. Week two her I come. Sat, 21 Sep 2013 13:21:55 EST I'm Running My son and I have started training for a 5K. I had never thought about doing a 5K before this year. I've never been a runner and never thought of myself as one. When I was really sick this spring I realized that I had to make changes to my lifestyle in order to get this weight off and keep it off, so I started exercising. Some weight came off. As I got a little bit healthier, I stretched my goals out a little and started thinking that I wanted to do something outside my comfort zone. So... Wed, 18 Sep 2013 22:18:52 EST So bummed I am so bummed. I got a fitbit back in August and I loved it. Sadly, it is gone. I had it when I went to the store and didn't have it when I got home. I went back and checked the parking lot and the store. Nothing. No one has turned it in. I can't believe it came off my pants like that. $60.00 gone just like that. Ugh! Tue, 17 Sep 2013 22:18:36 EST Awesome Weekend We had so much fun at the Country Living Fair this weekend. It's an amazing show, albeit rather expensive to attend. The exhibitors were incredible. I loved all of the different things that we saw. I got some fun new craft projects to work on this winter.

Sun, 15 Sep 2013 20:47:51 EST Finally Yahoo!! I weighed in this morning and I finally budged on my weight. I had hit 217 clear back in July and then fluctuated between 218 and 220 ever since then. Today I stepped on the scale and I am finally at 216. I just hope it continues down now.

Yes the deck does look like new. I am so happy with it. Now we have to tackle the back deck.

I am also relieved that my son finally has a job. It's minimum wage and 3rd shift, so not ideal, but it is money coming in... Sat, 14 Sep 2013 09:26:26 EST Win and Lose We finished week one of the SB diet and neither of us lost any weight. Ugh! I have never eaten so many vegetables. We both decided to just follow the SP plan as it is much more manageable. We also decided that we are going to start training to do a 5K. I think that would be a lot of fun and very rewarding for both of us.

On a very positive note, we got a tremendous amount done on the deck. We sanded it on Friday, got the cracks and screw holes filled and painted the railing... Sun, 8 Sep 2013 18:18:33 EST Five days in Well my son and I are done with day 5 of the SB diet. So far so good. My blood sugar levels have been great this week. My lowest reading was 103 and my highest was 136, so I think the low carb diet is helping. I will weigh in on Sunday and see if I lost anything. I hope I do.

We'll be outside most of the weekend, sanding and painting our deck. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Thu, 5 Sep 2013 22:23:56 EST Three days in Well we've been doing the SB diet for three days now. It's going pretty well. We're staying on track and I think it is getting me going again. I have also started walking again. I had lost my continuity with it, so now I am trying to get it back. I will not give up on this. I have to get more weight off. It's not an option to stay this way. I only have 6 more pounds to reach my lowest weight in the last 18 years. It's so close. I will do this. Tue, 3 Sep 2013 23:40:38 EST Keep trying My son and I decided to do the South Beach Diet plan for a week to help get us started again. Then I will switch back to my SP plan and try to stick to that more carefully. I think I am going to start an exercise challenge again. I did well with the 28 day boot camp one. I will try it again. I have to get back on track and start making some progress again. Mon, 2 Sep 2013 14:01:24 EST Commitment Why is it so hard to stay committed to healthy eating and exercise? I have been slipping lately. Not horribly, but a little here and there on a more and more regular basis. I know that's why I haven't lost anymore weight. I have to get my motivation back. Being busy with school can't be an excuse. Any suggestions? Sun, 1 Sep 2013 03:30:22 EST
