But it would be a lie. Won't even get into the self flagellation here. Would just be a repeat of stuff you've read 100 times already.

My knee is still messed up, but I'm going to suck it up and work around it as well as I can. I've been walking maybe 4 days a week, but not nearly enough intensity to make up for the lack of duration and the calories. I have a modified plan for the P90X stu... Wed, 20 Feb 2013 10:41:12 EST Super Fun Weekend! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5254976 Friday night was bad movie night - already covered that.

Saturday I walked, met Jonah for coffee, did a couple of hours of reading/research, and went first to our friend's Chili Cook Off, where we got to try a few of the 11 entries into the contest. I had a tablespoon of about 5 different kinds. YUM!!!! And we got to see a bunch of our friends for a couple of hours.

Then we were off to another friend's game night. There were at least twenty women there. We knew ... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 14:18:13 EST And There Was Running!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5252742 Came home from work yesterday and got dressed to run. I headed out for my walk and a combo snow/rain started. I headed back into the house. I hadn't dressed for rain OR snow and I didn't have protection for my phone. So I figured I'd take my first stab at trying to fix the elliptical. Not gonna happen. Thought/hoped it would be a couple of bolts I had to replace. It's actually broken. A big huge hunk of metal that holds one of the legs on sheared right off (from what I can tell). So... Sat, 16 Feb 2013 14:58:29 EST Food is Going Great!!! Workouts, not so much . . . http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5251692 Still - ZERO CRAVINGS!!!!! I am not exaggerating at all. I eat at mealtimes and am not compelled to eat any other time. I do not crave sweets. I do not crave fried stuff. I am not hungry in between meals. It is depressing, but it is what it is. If I don't eat it, I don't want it. And people can whip out all of my addictive foods right in front of me, and no problem.

Workouts haven't worked out so well this week - and next week is going to be messy too. Fri, 15 Feb 2013 13:55:56 EST Much Better Day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5250247 The food choices were way better yesterday.

Had a good day at work and then spent a few hours working on the business plan.

I was supposed to walk with Linda and Toby, but it was raining. I would have gone anyway, but they suggested yoga instead. We had a fun time, with them grumbling at how bendy I am for most of it. I got to let them know that I was about as bendy as they are around this time last year - so they can make major progress in just a year. We may do it ... Wed, 13 Feb 2013 08:50:49 EST Really, Really, REALLY Didn't Want to Do It!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5246132 Subject refers to the six mile walk I had promised myself on Saturday. It was cold. Winds were in the 20s with higher gusts. I was sore. My knee was stiff. Easily could have told myself that after three days of walking in a row it would really be the right thing to do to give my knee a rest, and get back under the covers with a book. I did a bagel run (to kill some time before the winds were supposed to die down), got home and took care of some stuff at the house. . . .

. .... Mon, 11 Feb 2013 09:12:07 EST Losing 70 Pounds is EXACTLY as Doable as Losing 1 Pound http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5242801 This popped into my head yesterday afternoon and I've been mulling it over since then. For years I looked at the weight I had to lose and it looked like an insurmountable task. I'd make the decision to do something about it . . . . . and nothing would happen. Because I wasn't doing anything different.

So as I was updating my spark page profile yesterday and looking at the progress I've made over the last year, it occurred to me that I'm sort of in that same spot right now. I'... As an added bonus, the zombies only work one shift and can register to run the race (during another shift of course) for about half price!! All kinds of other cool perks.

So I've been wanting to organize a huge ... Wed, 6 Feb 2013 11:29:54 EST Counting the Week as a Success :-D http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5238541 I never seem to be able to keep food AND workouts on the rails at the same time . . . Up until I tweaked my knee, workouts were going gangbusters and food was crashing and burning. Now food is completely under control, since 1/29/13, but workouts are off the rails. :-/

I'm not too worried at the moment. I've already lost a few pounds - something that wasn't happening at all, even with all the running. And my knee was really bothering me, but seems to be actually be getting bet... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 14:37:16 EST Enter at Your Own Risk - Whining Alert http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5228716 So, after a long, incredibly unproductive - if not destructive - hiatus, I'm back at it again. Sorry to say it's not just because it's "the right thing to do." It's a matter of life or death. OK, that's a bit melodramatic. It's a matter of being able to move or not being able to move; of gaining back the weight I lost or continuing to lose and go in the right direction; of increasing my ability to run farther and faster or ending up in a wheelchair. And necessity is the mother of invent... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 12:14:58 EST Couch to 5K Program DONE!!!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5173746 I seriously can NOT believe I did the whole thing. I can't believe that I can run 45 minutes at a time without stopping. I can't believe that I stuck with the plan for nine whole weeks without getting off track!

I did the week 9 day 2 workout last night. It was HARD. The hills in the neighborhood - killer. But I did it. And this morning was going to play it by ear - depending on how my legs felt, but was going to do 10 miles whether there was running or not. When I got up, w... Sat, 22 Dec 2012 14:37:44 EST The Plan http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5172916 I haven't been doing as much strength training lately. First I tweaked my knee - which got me into walking running to replace the leg workout and cardio workouts from P90X. So now my legs are good and I have tendonitis in my elbow that is totally crippling my right arm, so I can't do any of the upper body stuff. So I'm mostly all running/walking all the time. I think it is the universe making sure that I stick with the running. And I'm good with that. I miss the P90X, but I LOVE the ru... Thu, 20 Dec 2012 08:54:01 EST I Want a Cookie :-/ http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5171146 I think it might be what I had for lunch - I finished 10 minutes ago, completely satisfied. :::::sigh::::::

I had Hunan chicken and veggies. The sauce was sweet and I'm thinking that has stirred up the cravings. I know I'm not really hungry and I'm not breaking the rules by having anything sweet. Just observing that the urge is there - when it hasn't been for most of the last 23 days. And I want to do whatever I can to keep it from happening because my life is WAY easier when ... Wed, 19 Dec 2012 13:54:50 EST It Was an Accident!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5170251 Seriously . . . . I was going to not workout yesterday. I had run two days in a row, one run almost twice as long as the plan. But I was restless and started getting the urge to eat a whole bag of chocolate . . .where did THAT come from???? So I got dressed and headed out. Weather said "cloudy," NOT rain. But it was drizzling. It was ok though because it was over 50 degrees out, and it felt good. Mostly was worried about my phone - not in a waterproof case - but it wasn't raining hard ... Tue, 18 Dec 2012 14:53:30 EST The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5169304 OK, there wasn't really any bad or ugly. Just trying to get your attention. :-D

The weekend didn't go exactly as planned in a number of ways. We were supposed to decorate for the big party on Friday night, but found out we weren't allowed in the space on Friday, even though we had the key. So plan B. I went home and did everything on Friday night that I was going to do on Saturday morning. I was going to play by ear whether I did my 10 miles on Saturday or Sunday, but Saturda... Mon, 17 Dec 2012 16:32:45 EST Drive By Posting http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5166612 It's December, and it's *ME*, so of course I don't have time to stop and write a decent post. Of COURSE I don't have time to stop in and see how my friends are doing. OF COURSE I am really feeling grinchy and looking forward to January!!!

This weekend should be the end of the worst of it - except for the part where I have barely started my Christmas shopping. Biggest concern is I'm not done shopping for Shauna yet and I'm afraid I won't be able to get stuff to her on time. I ha... Fri, 14 Dec 2012 15:41:46 EST Starting to not be so surprised!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5163460 I've done a 20 minute run and a 25 minute run twice so far. I am truly stunned that I am pulling this off. I have another 25 minute run tonight and for the first time I'm not thinking about it in terms of "whether I can pull this off or not." I know I can do it because I have done it - a couple of times. Now I'm thinking in terms of, can't wait to get to the 30 minute runs so that I can start trying to run the whole four miles around the lake without stopping!

I did a way modif... Tue, 11 Dec 2012 16:49:35 EST Got All My Miles - AND RUNNING - In!!!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5161207 I DID IT!! I DID IT!!! Can't believe it!!! And other goofiness to report . . . .I should be way more embarrassed . . . . but we'll get to that.

So, Friday night I came home and got ready to go do my first 25 minute run - the longest one so far. Lots of BIG hills on my three mile route and even without hills - TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES of running without stopping!!! I just determined that I was going to do whatever I had to, run as slowly as I had to, whatever to keep going. And wors... Sun, 9 Dec 2012 15:13:07 EST So Far So Good!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5159378 Not sure what happened that I ended up back on the rails for the month of December, but I am 100% solid so far from a food standpoint. No sweet, fried, or alcohol since Monday, November 26. So I’m on Day 11 . . . .in December . . . .the holiday season. I have attended a multitude of parties, happy hours, dinners out, etc. etc., surrounded by all of the things I have decided not to eat until at least Christmas. No problem. A little twinge once in a while when I see a particularly good looking ... Fri, 7 Dec 2012 14:23:50 EST Eating Right and Singing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5156927 Way under calories yesterday!! I've been having a bagel in the morning without any problem lately, so I'm pretty happy about that. Problem with the bagel is, it's a bunch of calories early and if the carbs were kicking in cravings later in the day, I'd be off the rails really easily. But I've been managing just fine. It's not the most nutritious, but it's what I want and I'm way making up for it during the rest of the day as a rule. Yogurt and berries and lots of veggies usually. And mo... Wed, 5 Dec 2012 09:45:49 EST TOO Much to Report!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5155768 So . . .I didn't fit in everything I had planned for the weekend - thank goodness. Can't even imagine how I would have pulled it all off. The short version is that I had four places to be. I would have had to start at 10 a.m. and keep going until after midnight and with a total of about 250 miles of driving for good measure to get everywhere I had to be. And I would have only been able to fit in six miles of walking in the morning unless I started at 6 a.m.

I got off the hook f... When I was visiting another friend, I came across a vendor selling gold chains from Turkey. I found one that I fell in love with and bought it, even though I couldn't really afford it at the time. Stuck with the plan all day. Had a little bit of a struggle, but wasn't thinking and had some pretzels for a snack. Empty carbs are probably not a good idea right now. And I met my interviewee at a Mexican restaurant - one of the worst possible choices, but it's a place I knew we could get a quiet corner and be able to hear each other and get picked up on the voice recorder. SO .... Thu, 29 Nov 2012 09:32:21 EST A Really Good Day!!!!!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5149446 Best day in months!! I don’t know what clicked, but I got everything moving in the right direction yesterday. I brought good food for breakfast, lunch, and snacks; I stuck to the plan and didn’t even eat everything I had planned on; and for dinner I had another big bowl of veggies, sautéed and scrambled in with two eggs and a couple of tablespoons of shredded mozzarella. I ended up under 1000 calories, but completely satisfied all day!

And before dinner, even though I jus... I can only do something about now.

Had six days off in a row - was sick pretty much the whole time. I accomplished exactly nothing. And I'm afraid to get on the scale. And I have about 33 days before Key West - no pressure.

Working out, calorie limits. Woooooo Hoooooooo!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5135585 Really shocked that I pulled this one off. Like I said yesterday, I was able to do my first P90X legs workout in a month. I could tell I got a good workout in - the worn out muscles feeling. But I wasn't sore. This morning I got up and it hurt to have clothes touching me!! . . . . in a good way. :-D

By this evening, after sitting at work all day, moving around was a pretty major ordeal. But I headed out the door to get my run in - and DID IT!!!! Easy. I was even running s... Wed, 14 Nov 2012 20:03:59 EST I Got My Legs Workout Back Today!!!! Woooo Hooooo!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5133730 I just went back and figured out how long it's been since I could do the legs workout (or plyo - since that's the workout that tweaked my knee in the first place) and it has been a MONTH!! I didn't realize it had been so long, but I DID realize that it has been making a difference that I couldn't do those workouts. It hasn't been all bad. I'm really training to run again. I don't think I'd be here if I had been able to keep up with the legs and plyo. But I know that without doing the leg... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 09:01:50 EST Ten Miles!!!! Third Week in a Row!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5130730 We talked about sailing today AND I slept until almost 9:00 a.m. today!! That combination wasn't looking good to get my ten miles in. But then we realized that we weren't going to be able to fit in sailing - besides there wasn't going to be wind. So I headed out aiming for 6 or 10 and went for 10!!! I got Day 2 of Week 3 of C25K done along the way. Next weeks' runs will be 16 minutes total!!! A little freaked out, but taking it one day at a time and so far so good. :-D

Short... Actually, pretty sure I wasn't thinking at all at oh dark hundred this morning when I forced myself to get out of bed and tackle my daily (that I've missed for the past two days) three miles. I rolled out the door, started my music and launched my C25K program on the phone. As soon as I hit the sidewalk. You're thinking, "And . . . . . ?"

The first mile of my route is pretty much straight up hill. I always walk it and THEN launch the program. It oc... This is as far as I've made it in the C25K program ever. Don't get me wrong, I've run way farther than 1.5 minutes at a time before - in a galaxy far far away - or something like that. But I've always launched C25K after going way too long without working out and/or right as I was recovering from some injury (knee, hammy, ankle, etc.) that took me out for as much as a year. So I've always bagged out after a workout or two because it was "too much too fa... I got it down to 2 hours and 10 minutes (from 3 hours), including having to stop several times to take off my shoes and get the stuff out of them from the leaves and twigs I was hiking through. And (probably shouldn't have - two days in a row) I did week 2 day 2 of C25K!!! I had three hours to kill, so figured what the heck. Like the last time, I coul... I want to "unveil" at a 5K in December. And after that, I want to "unveil" a 15K in February and a 10 miler in April. I don't know if I'll make the goals, but I'm moving in the direction of the goals - which is my best lesson from this past year. If you need to be there NOW, you are only setting yourself up for disappointment and failure. We haven't worked out the beaming thing (Star Trek) and the... I'm not exactly where I want to be on calorie counts yet and I've missed a couple of workouts, but the worst part - getting past the first couple of days and sticking with the decision to stay away from my worst habit foods is done. And I feel better. I always do, and I KNOW this.

So why did I just waste almost five months of forward progress on chicken wings an feeling icky afterward?? No... Food has been good all weekend, including a Halloween party, sailing outing, and eating out at a brewery yesterday (hamburger and a tossed salad - and the most WONDERFUL beer aged in a bourbon barrel - DuClaw Retribution - OMG so good!! - but who's counting?) I've been off all fried and sweets (with plenty of temptations) starting on Friday. So far so good! I haven't decided how long I'm going to keep it up this time, but I ... Mon, 29 Oct 2012 12:49:56 EST No Fried, No Sweets, and TEN MILES!!!!!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5116050 Miracle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too tired to make a coherent sentence, but just to keep track of stuff . . . .

Yesterday I got up to do my ten miles - and just before I'm on my way out the door, Maura lets me know that Bonnie and Lynn were coming to the house . . .at 10:15. In *my* math, I had until 11. So change in plan, six miles instead of ten. :( But I got the six miles in and got ready to go sailing. We got a good sailing trip in and stripped all the canvas off the boat... Sun, 28 Oct 2012 21:11:23 EST The Goal is Winning!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5113739 So last night I decided to cut fried and sweet again. It was right around the time I was dealing with feeling icky after eating fish and chips way too late. :-/

You'd think, as a grown woman, you'd be able to consistently make better decisions that the ones I've been making - particularly with the knowledge and experience I have to back them up. WHY is it so easy to do stupid things that are diametrically opposed to what is in our own best interest? Fried, nutritionless food wi... Fri, 26 Oct 2012 13:23:12 EST I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5112187 I did week 1, day 1 of the couch to 5K!!! Baby steps . . . . I've tried it before and wasn't in good enough shape to even get through the running in week 1. SO sad. But I got through it easily today; even though as luck would have it, most of the running segments happened on the uphills. :-/ I'm using C25K Pro for Android. LOVE IT!!! I play my music and she interrupts to tell me when to run and when to stop. HOW cool is that?????

In other miraculous news, I slept. I woke... Thu, 25 Oct 2012 09:12:56 EST On a Roll!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5110963 I may have mentioned this before, but I'm in the DC area and around here one win for any of our sports teams is considered "a streak." So I'm claiming "a streak." :-D

I had a great food day yesterday. I have "a thing" that is my goal - a pretty powerful one apparently because it has managed to fend off Halloween cupcakes and cookies, donuts, ice cream, and fried stuff for most of three days. Not a public thing, but it wouldn't matter anyway. Everyone has to come up with their ... Wed, 24 Oct 2012 09:13:51 EST Doing Very Bad Things http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5110080 Not what you think . . . .

So my life has mostly simplified down to "all sailing all the time," except for the little matter of being on the board of directors for two organizations, one very busy and the other in dire need of massive huge work - end result being the same. And keeping up solid workouts - aiming for running 10 miles by April and getting my nutrition back on track. And happy hours and karaoke and my son is a senior in high school . . . . .

I was serious... Tue, 23 Oct 2012 15:04:58 EST Taking Another Run at Getting Back on Plan http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5108533 So every day is a new day. And here we are again, with all new chances to make better decisions, take more positive actions, do things that are good for us. And I'm determined to get moving back in the right direction.

This morning the alarm went off at 5:50. I snoozed it. Then I got up and headed down to get my P90X workout in. It was legs and back today. I got through the warm up and went into the very first move and turned the DVD off. I tweaked my knee in Plyo last week... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 13:43:02 EST Really Struggling http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5104688 Started this entry with all the reasons things aren't "as bad as I think they are," but that's not why we're having this little chat. Things are EXACTLY as bad as I think they are. I'm eating BAD and for some reason, I don't seem to be able to stop it.

Linda was right - I did better when I was sticking to pretty strict rules. Also right that you can't live that way forever. However, it took drastic for me to make really great progress and I think it's going to take drastic to g... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 08:50:55 EST Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run - It will come as no surprise to anyone that I am CRAZY!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5102706 So - I got the first email about the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run, which will happen on April 7, 2013. Maura has run it a couple of times and I put in for the lottery for the 5K last year for the first time and didn't get selected. The email has a link to apply to be a "social runner." The "social runner" has to do the 10 Mile Run and blog/tweet/facebook about the experience of getting from here and now to the finish line in April. The social runners will get a free training program . . . .... Wed, 17 Oct 2012 15:24:13 EST
